Chapter 15: Adjusting

Dangerous Love

AN: One quick thing before you start reading! When Hyomin reads the book everything in [these] are her thoughts while reading. You may continue now :]

Sunny walked down the long elegant staircase into the living room. She was surprised to find that it was filled with, what she assumed were, other vampires that Kahi and Bekah had changed. They had told her there were others that lived in the mansion with them, but she didn’t realize exactly how many there were.

The living room was huge and, at the moment, very hectic. Just at first glance Sunny saw a bunch of people smashed onto the large wrap around couch watching a movie, four people piled into one of the recliners having some freaky four-way make out session, a girl lying on the plush carpet reading, some guy kicking a hacky sack around, and so much more. There had to be at least 30 vampires of various genders in the room.

“Woah…” Sunny muttered under her breath.

More than 30 pairs of eyes looked at her. The vampires immediately stopped what they were doing and rushed in front of her. She couldn’t catch all that they were saying but she caught a few, “wow she’s cute!”s, and some “I wouldn’t mind her biting me”s, among other comments.

Suddenly Sunny heard a female voice yell, “step aside and get away from the girl!” They all did as commanded, and soon Sunny was face to face with the owner of the voice. She was pretty and gave off a kind of officious aura. The woman smiled at Sunny, “Hi, I’m Areum. It’s nice to finally meet you now that you’re awake. Follow me.”

Sunny did as she was told and was led to a big kitchen where about 15 other vampires were scattered. Areum yelled, “Get out!”  Sunny was surprised when they all dispersed without question. Areum sat down at one of the small tables that occupied the kitchen and motioned for Sunny to sit in front of her.

Areum once again smiled, “Bekah wanted me to get you situated here, since it will be your home now, and also answer any questions you might have. The first thing we need to talk about are clothes for you.” Areum pulled a card out of her pocket and handed it to Sunny, “Use this to buy some clothes online; there isn’t really any spending limit. You’ll be sharing a room, bathroom and computer with me. We’ll have separate beds, dressers, closets, and desks. Questions before I take you to our room?” She said curtly.

“Yeah. Before when you said it was nice to see me awake, what did you mean?” Sunny asked.

“Oh, when you were in the process of changing from human to vampire you got a bad fever. I sat by you and rubbed you down with cold water. Any more questions?”

Sunny nodded, “Not to sound mean or anything, but why do you have so much control over the other vampires?”

Areum grinned, “I was the first human that Bekah changed, before they both started biting humans at the same time to change them. So I’m kind of in control while they’re gone. It’ll either be me or”, Areum grimaced a little before saying the name, “Hwayoung running things while Kahi and Bekah are out.”

“Who’s Hwayoung?”

Areum growled, “an immature, irresponsible, brat. She’s also the first vampire that Kahi changed.”

“You don’t like her?” Sunny asked curiously.

Areum sighed, “Not one bit. Let’s go to the room now.”

Sunny followed Areum up the stairs and down a hallway to what would be her new room. When Areum opened the door Sunny couldn’t help but smile. The room was very spacious with a full sized bed on either side of the room.

“wow…” Sunny said, “This is really nice…”

Areum smiled and put her hand on Sunny’s shoulder, “It’s one of the bigger rooms. Kahi and Bekah wanted you to feel comfortable.”

“What about the vampires that have been here longer than me? Aren’t they more… deserving of a bigger room than I am?”

Areum thought for a second, “Kahi and Bekah pick favorites. Hell, they don’t even remember some of the others’ names.”

“That seems a little unfair…”

Areum laughed, “Life isn’t fair. Besides, I wanted to share a room with you; I kind of requested it.”

Sunny was a little startled, “Why?”

Areum smiled widely, “You’re cute, and from what I’ve seen, a lot more tolerable than most of the others here. I hope we can be friends.”

Sunny couldn’t help but smile back, “I’m sure we will be.”

                                                                Saturday 1:00am the T-ara mansion

Hyomin sighed and plopped down on the couch holding a book. Soyeon had convinced her to stay home because the leader thought some alone time would do her good. But Hyomin's mind just kept wondering to one person: Sunny. She knew it wasn't healthy so she tried to focus on other things. Already she had watched a few movies, but it wasn't much fun doing it by herself.

Finally she had remembered Boram’s collection of books. Hyomin had picked out one that had sounded interesting. The demon sprawled out on the couch and opened the book to the first chapter:

“This darkness troubles me. I yearn for the light.

This silence is so deep. I long for voices, the drumming of rain, the whistle of the wind, music.

Why are you being so cruel to me?[I’m not a monster] Let me see [your face]. Let me hear [your voice]. Let me live [with you]. I beg of you [please don’t hate me].

I am so lonely in this bottomless darkness. [If I had tried harder to get you to listen to me you would still be here]

So lonely. [I miss you so much]

Lost. [I don’t know what to do any more]

You think I have no heart [I am not a monster]. But if I have no heart, what is this ache? [a monster wouldn’t hurt this much] What is this anguish? [please, don’t run away] If I have no heart, what is this that threatens to break inside of me? [I AM NOT A MONSTER!]

Hyomin hurled the book at the wall and curled up on the couch as she felt tears begin to pour from her eyes. Reading had been a bad idea.

                                                                2:00am Kahi and Bekah’s Mansion

Sunny had sprawled out on her bed with the computer in front of her as she looked for clothes. There was a knock on the door, but before Sunny could tell whoever it was to come in a smiling Kahi opened the door. Sunny smiled back and sat up.

“I’m guessing Areum got everything set up for you?” Kahi asked. Sunny nodded, “Awesome. Are you comfortable?” Sunny nodded again. “Good.” Kahi said before she shut the door and left.

“Well that wasn’t weird or anything…” Sunny thought. “She probably just wanted to make sure that I was comfortable.”

Sunny went to sleep at 7am. She dreamed of her past again.

Tiffany laced her fingers through Sunny’s as they sat on the couch and watched a scary movie. Sunny had picked a scary movie solely for the purpose of frightening Tiffany. It may have seemed mean, but she just wanted Tiffany to be close to her. Sunny loved the way the normally happy girl would hide her face in her shoulder during especially scary scenes. Then again, Sunny just loved any contact with her in general.

It had been a month since they had confessed to each other. They held hands more, cuddled more, had , and were around each other a lot more. Sunny was sure that Yuri, Sooyoung, and Hyoyeon had noticed, but they hadn’t said anything about it. Besides, it’s not like they were officially dating. Sunny had hoped to ask her out tonight, but found herself nervous for some reason.

“What if she says no because we’re both girls? What if this is just a physical thing, and she doesn’t love me like I love her? What if she’s just experimenting with me?” Sunny went over everything that could possibly go wrong in her mind over and over again.

The movie ended too soon for Sunny. She had either been thinking or distracted by Tiffany the whole time. She honestly didn’t even know what the movie was about.

Tiffany was cuddled close to Sunny and had a tight hold on her arm. She looked at Sunny and smiled, “thank you for dealing with me through the movie. I know my jumping and grabbing onto you must have been annoying.”

Sunny laughed, “I like it while you grab onto me, Fany.”

“I’m glad.” Tiffany gave Sunny a peck on the lips.

Sunny smiled widely before she put on a serious but nervous face, “Uhm, there was something I wanted to talk to you about…”

“What is it? Is something wrong?”

Sunny shook her head, “No! Nothing’s wrong… I uhm… I just wanted to know if maybe… you would like to go out with me?”

Tiffany laughed, “I thought we were already dating.”

Sunny smiled, “Neither of us ever asked so I…”

Tiffany shook her head with a smile, “I just assumed we were.”

There was a silence then Sunny said, “I love you, Tiffany.”

Tiffany took Sunny’s hands in hers’, “I love you, Sunny.”

Sunny was overwhelmed with happiness. She smiled and tackled Tiffany; causing her to fall back on the couch. Tiffany giggled while Sunny covered her face with kisses.

The dream/memory faded out, and another one faded in.

Sunny stood between Tiffany and Yuri as they waited for the four other girls who would be a part of their team. They were all nervous.

Soon their teacher walked in, and the four girls followed not fair behind him. Sunny examined the girls; they were all very pretty. She glanced at Tiffany only to find that was partially open and her face held an expression of wonder. Sunny didn’t realize why at the time. She turned to Yuri. Yuri’s mouth was wide open in awe, maybe slightly drooling. Sunny faced back toward the group of four.

“Ladies,” their teacher said as he gestured toward the four girls, “Meet Seohyun, Yoona, Jessica, and Taeyeon.” He then gestured to the other group, “Meet Sooyoung, Hyoyeon, Tiffany, Sunny, and Yuri.”

They all bowed and said their hellos. Sunny should have known that things were going to change when Tiffany went straight to Taeyeon to say hi. After they had all mingled for a few minutes the teacher said, “I would like to announce that there will be some room changes to encourage bonding among the 9 of you. Yuri and Yoona will share a room, Sooyoung and Seohyun will share a room, Hyoyeon and Jessica will share a room, and Sunny, Tiffany, and Taeyeon will share a room.”

Sunny groaned a little. She didn’t like the idea of Tiffany and her sharing a room with someone. It wouldn’t give them as much privacy. Tiffany on the other hand was smiling, and so was Taeyeon.

The memories went by in flashes now; memories of Sunny’s relationship with Tiffany changing.

“Hey Fany, do you want to go out for lunch today?” Sunny asked.

“Uh, actually I already made plans to go to lunch with Taeyeon. I’m sorry Sunny.” Tiffany Hugged Sunny and kissed her cheek, “We’ll go out tomorrow, okay?”

Sunny puffed out her cheeks in cute disappointment, but nodded her head. Tiffany had been ditching her to hang out with Taeyeon more and more lately.

Sunny watched Taeyeon and Tiffany from the other side of the practice room. They were laughing and playing around. Sunny felt her chest ache. It had been two months since they had met Taeyeon and the others. In those two months Sunny had felt Tiffany drifting away from her, she also felt an extreme dislike for Taeyeon.

It wasn’t anything personal really; Taeyeon actually seemed like a nice person. It was just seeing how her and Tiffany interacted and got along. Sunny wouldn’t lie; she was jealous. Her and Tiffany’s relationship wasn’t how it used to be. They didn’t fight or anything like that. They had just grown apart. Sunny knew Taeyeon and Tiffany had more than friendly feelings for each other. She could see is in the way they looked at one another and how they looked so happy together.

Sunny sighed to herself. She had been debating breaking up with Tiffany. Not because she didn’t love her; Sunny loved Tiffany with all of her heart. It was that Sunny knew Tiffany would be happier dating Taeyeon, but Tiffany herself wouldn’t break up with Sunny to go out with Taeyeon. “Tiffany cares about me, she’s happy with me. But she would be happier with Taeyeon.” The thought brought tears to Sunny’s eyes. Thinking about Tiffany with someone else hurt, but knowing that she was holding the person she loved back from complete happiness hurt more. Afterwards they would still be friends; she could still see Tiffany, talk with her, laugh with her.

Sunny wiped her eyes and shook it off. She would break up with Tiffany. Things would be better that way.

Sunny put on a fake smile and walked up to the two laughing girls. “Hey Fany, could I talk with you alone for a second.”

Tiffany smiled and nodded, “Of course. I’ll see you later Taeyeon!” Taeyeon waved before walking away. “What’s up, Sunny Bunny?”

Sunny sighed, “Listen, Tiffany… I-I’m breaking up with you.”

Hurt and disbelief filled Tiffany’s face and her eyes became watery, “Bu-but Sunny… What did I do wrong! We’re happy a-and…”

Sunny shook her head as she felt the beginnings of tears sting her own eyes, “you didn’t do anything wrong. We’re happy, but I think this way you’ll be happier; with us just as friends. Okay?”

“But Sunny… I love you. How could this possibly make me happier?”

Sunny felt a tear roll down her cheek, but she stayed composed, “And I love you, too. Just wait, you will be happier. I promise. From now on we’ll just be best friends, okay?”

Tiffany nodded her head, “I still don’t understand… but I trust you… I still don’t want us to break up, Sunny.”

Sunny hugged her tight, “It’ll be okay. Just wait. You’ll be happier.”

A month later Sunny sat at a table with Jessica. The two had gotten closer since Sunny had moved in with her and Hyoyeon. Their academy had decided to have a dance to boost the student morale. Sunny didn’t feel boosted at all. She had gotten all dressed up just to sit here and stare at Tiffany, who was as gorgeous as ever, standing on the other side of the room talking and laughing with Taeyeon. They hadn’t started dating yet, but Sunny had a feeling they would soon.

“-and that’s why I don’t like cucumbers.” Jessica said. She had been talking the whole time but Sunny hadn’t paid attention.

“Cool.” Sunny responded without enthusiasm.

“Is something wrong?” Jessica asked.

“I’m just thinking…”

Jessica followed Sunny’s gaze, “About Tiffany?”

“I broke up with her a while ago. Not because things were bad between us, or I didn’t love her or anything like that. But because I thought she’d be happier with Taeyeon. It still hurts though.”

Jessica laughed, startling Sunny, “Ha, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to laugh. It’s just that I broke up with Taeyeon not too long ago for the exact same reason. Of course I miss her a lot. But I think those two will be happy once they finally get together.”

Sunny smiled a little. Still amazed that Jessica was in the same situation as her; it felt good to not be alone. “Yeah.”

The two watched as Taeyeon and Tiffany stepped onto the dance floor for a slow song. Sunny’s heart ached as Tiffany leaned her head on Taeyeon’s shoulder and Taeyeon wrapped her arms around Tiffany’s waist; holding her close.

Jessica rubbed Sunny’s back comfortingly, “I know how you feel. I think we did the right thing. We’ll find who we are meant to be with eventually.

Sunny nodded, but still continued to watch the two dance until the end of the song. She watched as Taeyeon planted a kiss on Tiffany’s lips and Tiffany kissed back. Sunny bit her lip and turned back towards Jessica whose eyes were watery.

“Do you want to go out to get some ice cream or something? I think we both deserve it.” Jessica asked in a wavering voice.

“Yeah. Let’s go.” Sunny responded as she stood up.

Sunday 1:00pm Taeyeon and Tiffany’s apartment

Taeyeon and Tiffany sat on the couch in their PJs with a half empty box of pizza in front of them and a cheesy romantic comedy playing on the TV.

Tiffany turned to Taeyeon, “What are we going to do about whatever is happening with Sunny? I’ve been worried about her.”

Taeyeon sighed and leaned her head on Tiffany’s shoulder, “I have been too, but I really don’t know. We don’t even know if she’s still alive or not.”

“Please don’t say that, Taeng. She has to be alive.”

“I want her to be okay, too. But we really don’t know anything about what’s happened to her. Those demons at The Number 9 have to know something…”

“Do you really think they’re the cause of all this?”

Taeyeon thought for a second, “I have mixed feelings. They seemed genuinely concerned, but at the same time demons can be masters of deceit. I think it’s best that we do what we can without them.”

“Taeyeon, we’ve already tried doing things without them. Don’t you think we should at least try talking to them calmly again? Just us and Soyeon? Or maybe Soyeon with Hyomin or Qri?”

Taeyeon rubbed her temples and groaned, “I don’t know. This is all really stressful. I don’t trust them; they could even give us false information.”

“If Sunny is in danger the sooner we do something the better. It’s already been too long. What if they’ve turned her, tae?” Tiffany’s voice began to waver at the end of her sentience as tears spilled out of her eyes.

Taeyeon wrapped her arms around Tiffany, “I don’t know. If there is anything to what Soyeon told us then she could be one of these ‘good demons’.”

“We need to talk to Soyeon or Qri again; we need more information. If you won’t go with me to get it I’ll just go ask them myself.”

“Fany, you can’t do that. They could hurt you.”

Tiffany slammed her fist into the couch, “Look at all the time Hyoyeon has spent around them! They haven’t harmed her once!”

Taeyeon sighed, “We don’t know that. Qri could be feeding on her slowly and killing her little by little.”

Tears of outraged covered Tiffany’s cheeks, “If that’s what you really believe then why did you leave Hyoyeon with them! You know she’s safe; whether you admit it to yourself or not! I’m going to their house, and I’m going to talk to them! Whether you go with me or not is your choice!” Tiffany stomped to the bedroom to get dressed.

Taeyeon sat on the couch in silence; still a bit shocked by Tiffany’s statement. She was right. If Taeyeon didn’t know Hyoyeon was perfectly safe, why did she leave her with those demons in the first place? Taeyeon stood up and walked to the bedroom to put on some clothes.

AN: I hope everyone likes the chapter! 2Ny ended a bit too fast for my liking, but we must carry on! The book Hyomin began to read was Demon Seed by Dean Koontz. If you like horror you should definitely check it out.

I'm not really sure how long the next chapter will be because I'm going through some family issues. I don't know how much time I will have to write, or how much I'll even feel like writing. But I will definitely get a chapter out!

As always, thanks so much for your support :]

Next update should be posted on the 16th-18th
