Like a Diamond

Kai wondered if Luhan knew the Seoul station will always be a special place for him. Not only this place keeping a memory of their first meeting, had it also happened to be the first time Kai experienced the true love. Before, this city only gives him bad air from his failure finding a suitable job, but then, when all doors closed, leaving only an option to go home, he met Luhan and realized how precious this life was. He’s still had to leave, though, but until he can step his feet in Seoul again, he never stop dreaming about the beauty, never stop longing for the boy to look at him and love him back, never stop imagining what will happen to him, to both of them, if he asked the boy forever.

If only, if only they were destined together, or at least, if he had a second chance to meet the boy again, he will make sure Luhan know about this love.

‘Please don’t freak out…’

However, it’s not only ‘love’ which came out from his mouth, as he really got to see the boy again under the heavy rain, with a clenched letter in Luhan’s palm and the cries of a broken heart.

‘I love you, and I want to marry you.’

He asked a stranger to be his wife, but never a second he regret it.

*

“So, here we are.”

Kai’s apartment, or more precisely their apartment now, was a five minutes’ walk from the train station which made Luhan smiled a bit wary cause the boy enjoyed walking hand-in-hand with Kai and it was too soon for them to say good bye. Kai saw the gloom in his wife’s eyes as they released their entwined fingers, and for that reason his face felt warmer than usual.

“Don’t be sad.” Kai patted the puffy cheek of the younger brunette, chuckling when Luhan pouted in displease, the boy was ready to retort when Kai added, “I’ll go home at dinner.” He said softly.

Luhan was still upset, and it made Kai had to think twice if he should go ahead to work or just skip a day so he can be with Luhan for a longer time. It's our first marriage day, the man silently mourn, why the I had to go to work, anyway?!

“But we’re just married.”

Apparently, Luhan was thinking the same with him as the boy grunted lowly, “I know you’re a newbie, but I thought the company had policy for this, like giving you a few days off…” Kai wanted to laugh at seeing the voice trailed out in exchange of blush appeared on Luhan’s face. Kai wondered if Luhan was aware what a ‘newlywed’ did among these days, so he let a small smirk appeared on his face as he murmured in a husky tone,

“So, you want a honeymoon?”

Luhan frowned at hearing that, “no…!” but the blush darkened as the boy shook his head in panic, “I mean… Kai… I’m just…!”

Kai smiled even wider, what a beautiful name he had, when Luhan became the one who said it. He wanted to ask Luhan to call his name, over and again, just like last night when their bodies tangled in the closest embrace they could manage and their hearts crushed and re-created into a piece of love which they had to share together.

“What?” However, he decided to tease his wife more, “You don’t want honeymoon?”

It was priceless to see every expression from Luhan, but it also breaking his heart, knowing that his Luhan deserved a great honeymoon, just like Luhan deserved a fancy wedding party to celebrate a life-time event in their life. Hence, Luhan deserved the world itself and because of that, Kai cupped Luhan face and captured his wife’s lips before he stared into the beautiful brown eyes and smiled, “I’m sorry, okay? We had nothing for now but I promise you, my love, one day I’ll make sure you have everything you want.”

“What are you talking about?” He made Luhan whispered in confusion and he wanted to cry to ease away the tightening pain in his chest because there’s a fear in him, if Luhan thought he was weird and starting to feel ill with his words of promises, “I have you.” That’s why when Luhan touched his hand on the pale cheeks, his eyes widened and he got stabbed by a sudden excitation from hearing the words,

“I have you as my everything.”

If this is a dirty love story, Kai will take Luhan to the nearest loo or any dark alley, and he’ll molest the boy just from this indescribable happiness exploded like series of fireworks in his heart because of Luhan’s statement. But this is his wife, not some ty lover who will do anything for him (Not that he had one before, or planned to get one) and he treasured his wife more than his life, he didn’t want to risk any bad thing to happen if he followed his wild instinct. So he stared into Luhan’s eyes, again he told the boy how sorry he was for not be able to take days off, “I was into marriage paper too much, I forgot to take care of anything else.” He admitted.

“That’s why I keep telling you we can marry next week.” Luhan scoffed in such a cute way, making Kai rested his hands around the slim waist and pecked the younger’s lips chastely.

“But, Luhan.” He pressed his lips onto the pinkish pale ear, “if we’re not married by now, I won’t be your husband and you won’t be my wife.”

Luhan furrowed his eyebrows, at hearing such unreasonable answer. “Kai you’re really weird.” but then the boy laughed, squealing happily at him, “but I think I like it.”

“Of what?”

“Of you as my husband and me as your wife.”

Four story of a buiding in a rich neighborhood of Gangnam District was the place Luhan stopped by. For a while, he only stood at the white stone colored house, reading the name plaque of Xi Household for a few times, before he braced himself to press the bell.

“Who’s that?”

Luhan gulped at hearing his mother’ voice, all of sudden he got nervous and was in between revealing his identity or just runaway and come back later.

“It’s Luhan.” He took a deep breath and managed to say his name without stuttering. His mother was a strict person and truthfully Luhan was afraid of her. Especially when he’s not too good at mostly everything, it made him got scolded often.

“Right at the time.” Even before he got into the gate, his mom already scolded him from the intercom, “where’d have you been yesterday? Your cellphone is out of reach and you’re not going back to your dorm last night. Do you remember we had family gathering? or should I write down it right into your brain so you at least could manage to inform us if you can’t go-…”

Luhan tucked his head down, biting his inner cheek to suppress the uncomfortable feeling from strangling his throat with pain so he won’t get teary from the harsh words. This is always happen to him, whatever he did he will always look stupid and always failed to please his mother, even though his father said, his mother loved him, only want the best for him, only want him to be the best, and all Luhan should do was endure with it.

‘It’s okay.’

Luhan’s eyes found a spark from his wedding ring and suddenly he remembered about Kai.

‘Nothing will happen to you…’

A smile appeared on his face and his hazy eyes slowly filled with courage as he looked at the bell and whispered,

“Mother…”

“…you know our cousins from – What?”

Luhan closed his eyes, smiling even wider at seeing the vision of the face from the man who loved him, who married to him and who became his husband for the rest of his life.

“I’m getting married.”

.

Luhan sighed.

He looked at his reflection on the shop’s glass. Just a while ago, there’s a dramatic scene of a woman who almost beat up her own son near death, because the said son dared to marry a stranger while not thinking about the long history of their culture and tradition, or at least, asking for the family’s bless. Sure he deserved it, the hard slap which now bruising his cheek, but it wasn’t hurt cause now he had Kai so there’s nothing in this world can make any harm to his feeling. He didn’t even cry when his mother stopped shouting and cursing and said that now there’s no place in Xi House for him anymore.

It was weird.

He should be depressed to get kicked from his family, but, he didn’t. He wondered why, as he observed the wedding ring Kai bought for him. It was simply beautiful, with only a small diamond planted in the middle of the plain silvery gold ring. It reminded him about his love for Kai. It was nothing, compared to the years he had to spend by wearing a perfect mask while inside he was just a pathetic being created to be a puppet doll. Before, his life was as plain as the white silver, until Kai boldly asked him, until Kai love him and so he loved the man and treasure this feeling with all his might, cause there’s no one in this world before treated him with such tenderness, marrying him without care who he was and falling in love in him with no reason.

“Hey.”

Luhan looked up, and his lips immediately turned into a shy smile when he saw Kai arrived for having lunch together with him, at this coffee shop near the train station. Luhan watched Kai took a seat next to him, not even blinked when Kai stared back in worry or when a soft brush of his husband’s thumb touching the bruise on his cheek,

“Luhan, what’s happen to you? Where did you get this?”

Luhan sighed again, now in relief. Luhan, that’s his name. He loved his name cause it sounded better when Kai was the one who said it. It feels different. It’s like he’s not someone from yesterday anymore and reborn into another person, a better person for sure. The strange feeling, he wasn’t sure what to call it but if the freedom was truly exist it probably felt like this.

‘What do you want from me?’

It’s happen three days ago, when he was drenched under the heavy rain and saved by a young man. Now he was sitting in this small yet cozy living room while holding a red mug of hot cocoa with his hands. In front of him, the man kneeled and smiled at him while saying it again, his confession and his offer for them to get married.

This is insane.

‘But, we don’t know each other.’ Luhan tried to be rational but then the man raised a hand, almost making Luhan flinched when the warm fingers caressed his cheek. He stilled, let himself enjoyed the touch. Asking how the man could love him while they were strangers to each other.

‘How couldn’t I?’

The answer was suffocating Luhan to the point it was so hurt to inhale a breath and because of it he stopped thinking. He realized it’s stupid to reject a man who loved him for no reason.

‘Ok, then.’ Luhan took a deep breath, before he smiled,

‘Let’s get married.’
