‘Umma, are you crying again?”

 

Kai furrowed his eyebrows when he saw Luhan swollen face despite the cheerful squeal and butterfly kisses showered him when he’s arrived home. He cupped his now pouting wife’s both cheeks, giving Luhan a concerned look as he said, “You promised me, right? No crying meaninglessly in front of our baby.” He didn’t mean to said it firmly but he was worried with their baby development too, if Luhan’s emotion became too unstable.

“You’re so rude, appa.” Luhan grumbled, “I’m crying because you make me, so that’s your fault.” Kai smiled a little when Luhan began explaining how happy he was when Baekhyun came with the flower bucket, and then he just found out that the white roses from the first day he became a wife, also from this flower shop, and then he remembered his first night with Kai, “Appa, we made love on top of blanket sewed from white rose petals, not every bride got such beautiful night like you give me so that’s pretty normal if I’m emotionally attached to white roses…”

 

“I don’t see your reason to cry.” Kai caressed Luhan face gently, “You said you’ll try not to be a crybaby anymore…”

 

“I’m trying.” Luhan glared at him in annoyance, which looked so cute that Kai bit the inside of his cheeks so he didn’t have to chuckle and cuddled Luhan into his chest. He shouldn’t be weak now. He should show a little bit selfishness so his wife can learn, he’s also human and he’s also had temper. “I understand,” he said while grasping both his wife shoulder, reassuringly, “the mood swing affected your hormones and you can’t help it. I also appreciated it for you trying your best to be a great mother. However…” his hands trailed down Luhan arms, before he entwined their fingers and placed it close into his chest. His eyes stared into Luhan’s hazy ones and his lips forming another smile as he continued with, “I realized you can’t do this alone. As your husband, I had duty to help you to be mature, since you’re so young and so innocently beautiful…”

Luhan blushed at his soft whisper, “I’m glad you’re understood.” The mother let out a giggle, “I was thinking you’re angry at me. You’ve never angry at me, so I’m a bit worry…”

“No, Umma, I’m angry at you right now.” Kai felt his smile widened into a sheepish grin, probably a bit cruel to see that Luhan frowned and stilled in front of him. “I love your childishness and cuteness the most, but since we’re going to be parents, you should put more responsible in your action, Umma, and…” when he felt Luhan hand grew colder than it should, he raised them up and gave a loving peck which strangely made Luhan yelped in anxiety instead.

 

“Are you going to divorce me?”

 

Kai eyes twitched ready to burst into laugh and just cooed Luhan. His under skin itchy to bring Luhan into his chest and pampered the mother all night, saying sweet words and promises of forever ever after like he did all these times. Truthfully, he didn’t care with Luhan attitude. He loved Luhan without reason and doubt and more importantly, without any exception. But he can’t be a good husband if he couldn’t teach his wife how adult world worked.

“No, who would do that to someone so perfect like you, Umma…” Kai whispered, “I just think, that maybe we need to set some unwritten rules in between us and anyone who disobey will be punished, severely…” and when he said the last words, he felt desire tried to appear in between them, coming from how husky he sounded it out. He gritted his teeth again, kept telling his alarmed lower region that this isn’t the time for waking up.

 

“Punish…?” Luhan asked clueless-ly.

 

“Yes.” Kai answered it a bit too impatient, “my rule is, every time you cry meaninglessly, like today, you will let me shave you down there…” he said while pointing at Luhan crotch. For a moment, Luhan could only blink in daze, before the mother face fumed in red.

 

“No!” Luhan immediately covered his crotch with hands, “Why you want to shave my pubic hair?! I can do it myself!”

 

“That’s a suitable punishment for crying in public.”

 

“But that’s embarrassing!”

 

“You know, Umma, crying in front of other people will embarrass your husband too. What if people think I’m an abusive person?”

 

“I’d rather getting tortured or whipped than having my crotch harassed, Appa!” Luhan whined and Kai couldn’t stand it anymore. He laughed out loud while trying to catch now struggling Luhan.

 

“It’s okay, Umma...” He lifted Luhan into his chest, and marched his now nervous wife to the bathroom while still chuckling lightly, “I promise I’ll be gentle…”

 

“Appa, you’re such a erted oldman!”

“Kai, someone waited you in meeting room.”

 

Kai was daydreaming while staring at the numbers in his laptop, thinking about his beautiful wife who not only great at seducing him with such sinful body and dirty moan, but also so innocent and glowed with purity. His precious wife who tried hard to cook for him, and will be so adorable in frilly pink apron, so even Kai had to eat plain omelet rice as his breakfast for the rest of his life, he won’t complain.

 

“Oi!” Jonghyun snapped at him, making him startled and Jino, who again peeked through the cubicle, giggled at his surprised expression.

 

“W-What?” Kai exchanged his gaze in between Jonghyun and Jino.

“You had a guest waiting at meeting room.” Jino said with a small laugh.

“Oh.” Kai immediately stood and tidying up his shirt and tie, “I’m sorry, I’m spacing out.”

“Yeah, we can see that.” Jonghyun said with a sneer, as the older walked back to his own cubicle, “who can blame you? You’re a newlywed.”

Kai felt his face heated, but he preferred to ignore the tease.

“And a father.” Jino added kindly, “So please maintain your face at work, Kai-sshi.”

 

He answered with an apologetic smile, before he rushed to the hallway and waited for the lift. His heart still beating Luhan name, in every step he took, but he forced his mind to focus with his work. Jino was right. He probably enslaved by his deep love for his perfectly beautiful wife, but he’s also a father and the head of the family. Now it’s not the time to play around or slacked off.

 

“Excuse me, I’m Kim Kai…” he knocked on the closed door and then invited himself in while wondering what kind of guest asking for his attendance. A moment he entered the meeting room, his step abruptly stopped and his eyes widened at the sight in front of him. It’s a woman, beautiful woman with straight black long hair, silently sat with a good, noble-like posture and attitude. She dressed in office suit, but just from her jewelry, Kai knew this woman probably someone from higher class than common office worker. Hence, even his boss, Minho, will be looked like in front of this lady.

 

“Hello, Kim Kai.”

 

She titled her head slightly and whispered in such a familiar tone, and smiled in the same way with the person he loved. Now that he look at her face closely, cold sweat began running on his temple cause he saw Luhan in her eyes, her facial feature and what terrified Kai the most, the smile and the voice was too similar. She just looked older, Kai assumed this lady was Luhan’s big sister or one of his wife’s cousins. He even thought this is probably Sehun, but then he correct himself, cause he knew Sehun was a man.

“You don’t have to be so shock.” Her smile faded, and her pink lips curt in displease, “Luhan never told about me, isn’t he? Well, I can’t blame him for that. He became so stubborn and reckless because he inherited it from me.”

Kai wished he could stop standing and approached this woman, now he knew who she was and he really wanted to kneel and bow to her, first, greeting her as Mother in Law, second, apologizing for snatching away a dearest son and didn’t find any valuable time to visit her yet. It’s not getting better now she came to find him first.

“I’m sorry Mrs.Xi...” He said softly, tried hard to make it up, “I’m sorry for my eagerness and forgetful self. I love your son, I started this wrongly but I can guarantee, there’s nothing wrong in our relationship. We’re doing fine and I tried hard to be the best husband for him.” His tongue kept wanting to defend himself, said this misunderstanding wasn’t his fault. Luhan asked him to wait, and so he waited until his wife ready to tell him what’s wrong in Luhan life. He only knew little, about the wealth and the fiancée, but he knew nothing about the parents yet and truthfully, Kai thought it was unfair now she came to judge him.

But he also remembered Luhan was his wife. His precious wife. He didn’t want to blame Luhan because in this marriage, Luhan and him was on the same side, not the opposite. His duty as husband was protecting his wife no matter what happened so he took a breath and calm the anger down. It’s meaningless to get angry over Luhan. The boy was his everything and he can’t risk losing Luhan just because stupid accusation. He’ll die.

 

“Huh?”

 

Still, it hurts when she stared at him coldly and whispered calmly,

 

“Now you’re sorry?”

 

Kai took another deep breath. It’s like there’s tight rope tied around his chest, preventing him from getting relaxed and let her words stabbed him with guilt,

“So, Kim Kai, after you stained my boy with your dirty fantasy, seducing him to left his blood-relative to live with stranger, now you’re sorry? What do you think, by telling me you’re both fine and you love him? I don’t want your sorry or hearing your love life story.” still in her calmness, she attacked him with words which sounded more like venom infused to his mind,

 

“I’m here to tell you to wake up, your dream is over.”

 

The anger began showing up again, hardening his jaw and clenched his palms. Now he understood what happened in Luhan life. All those unstable emotions in Luhan were coming from facing the mother. It only set more fire in him, imagining about years Luhan had to spend hearing her poisonous words, without no one care to save him from becoming too barren as children and too fragile to be an adult.

 

‘Are you going to divorce me?’

 

A reminder flashed in Kai memory, and he gritted his teeth, wondering why he couldn’t answer better, why he had to test Luhan before. Now he faced the source of problem messing with Luhan life, his mind was torn in between leaving this room or defending Luhan more from the mother. The last option was very tempting, since Kai was here less in five minutes yet his hands itched to flip the table and break it into pieces.

 

“I will still apology to you, Ma’am.”

 

Kai decided not to leave like a coward, or trashing around like a dumb. He will do the best thing he could do which was telling her the truth.

 

“Marrying Luhan is the best thing ever happened to me, like you say, it’s a dream come true.” He tried to mimic her by walking to a chair and sit, resting his back and cleared away the irritation in him. Slowly, his frown began changing into a content smile. He thought about Luhan, thinking of his wife’s giggles, cute whines, squeals, anything he found to create a space for happiness in his heart and his mind was full of his love for Luhan. “But I don’t have intention to wake up.” as he said it, his eyes stared at her intently, showing that even though he looked at ease, his decision is final, “no matter how I stained his purity or if my presence in his life is filthy and my fantasies about him were all dirty…”

 

“I think all you can get is my apology and respect, Ma’am, cause Luhan only belongs to me.”

 

He should know his place, and should research about Xi Family first, before he declared something so bold like this. But, since it’s already happened, Kai shrugged it off and giving his Mother in law his brightest, dazzling smile.

 

For a moment she watched him with flat expression, as if Kai was talking alone and she didn’t hear whatever he said. But then, she cleared and Kai couldn’t believe he was startled from the sound. It’s very feminine but it made his body tensed in warning, anticipating for more attack from her.

 

“Interesting.”

 

She began with a chuckle, just a second before she swallowed it again and tried to look serious by biting her bottom lips. But what Kai saw next was really made the man dumbstruck, cause then she laughed, probably because his stupid coy smile, and she squealed so beautifully, making this heart clenched cause Kai missed his wife so much now just from seeing the mother.

“A moment.” She covered to hold his laugh, “it has been years since I’m meeting someone so stupid, aside Luhan, so…” she giggled again, before she cleared again and looked into his eyes with her light brown orbs, “you’re really dumb, Kim Kai…”

“Excuse me?” Kai furrowed his eyebrows.

She smiled softly at him, didn’t really have intention to explain about it to him, instead, the mother took an envelope out of her handbag while whispering, “this meeting will end faster if you choose to leave Luhan, but…” again, the danger came to Kai in the form of an enveloped letter shoved to his side, “since you decide to have your ‘happily ever after’ with my son, you better sign this legal agreement.”

Kai reached the envelope. Suddenly he became so nervous when he pulled out the letter and read the term while Luhan’s mother explaining casually, “If you sign that letter, then Luhan will be banished from Xi family members, alongside with getting excluded from bearing any fortune of Xi household and our relatives such as Bang Group, or Park Company and Oh Hospital.” His hands trembled when he read the same, cause he will never understand the rules in rich community or how important family fortune to them or how easy to ditch their family.

 

“But he’s your son.”

 

She shrugged, “he’s yours now, Kim Kai. You said it to me.”

 

“And he was pregnant now with your grand child.”

 

Kai wished he didn’t say it to her, cause it made her smile faltered and her eyes glaring at him dangerously. “Don't you ever dare saying that.” Unlike before, now Kai could see her emotion, her real emotion as she stood and snapped a pen on the table, “the baby in Luhan, that’s not my grand child, Kim Kai, your baby would never be my grand child, and you know why?” She pointed at him, “I know you. My men researched about you and the result was very disappointing.”

Kai never felt this broken heart before, to keep hearing her words and to have no power to stop them from killing his pride as a husband. He had a bad feeling about this and he wished she stopped speaking by now. But then it only struck him with realization about the relation of Luhan being a Chinese and from rich family.

 

Kai cleared his throat.

 

This can’t be real.

 

However, when he confirmed it by letting her seen his anxiety, she sneered in disgust as she said, “yes, Kim Kai. Now you realize, the blood of yours wasn’t something acceptable in our family, or any other Chinese's. Our household suffered enough from disgrace for Luhan choosing to marry a half Japanese. You don’t think I will happily care for your child, do you?”

 

Kai said nothing, only stared at her emptily cause his sanity reached its limit and now he simply became numb. It’s cruel, what the mother said, but it also the truth. He couldn’t agree more with her, for his mother’s blood coming from a hateful race. For the blood running in him and now, pulsating in Luhan belly as his unborn child, made of his own flesh and blood.

 

And for the last time, he tucked his head down and whispering in defeat,

 

“I’m sorry.”

 

But that’s not for Xi house or for his Mother in Law or for his poor wife.

 

It’s for his baby for having someone like him as father.
