Brainstorming
A Chance to Change the PastA/N: Hi guys! Sorry it took a month, but like I said last chapter, I wasn't free from schoolwork until the other day. I promise, though, the first thing I did after catching up on some much needed sleep was to work on this chapter XD
It's kinda a... boring?... chapter, though. So, please bear with me here. It's necessary XD
The atmosphere around the table tensed up and turned serious at Yoochun’s words. Even Changmin stopped chewing in mid-bite.
Everyone immediately turned to look at Yunho.
Yunho looked at all the eyes trained on him and let out a deep breath. I suppose he was used to always being the one that people looked on to for a decision, with him being the leader and all that…
“Well,” the leader-ssi began slowly. “I suppose we should figure out first what we’re going to do while Erin’s here. I mean, like how we’re going to explain her presence around and keep everyone from knowing she’s not from this time…”
“I thought we’re already saying that she’s our new personal assistant?” Junsu asked, frowning a bit.
“Yeah, and that’s a good enough excuse for others, but we can’t use that with the management and anyone connected to it,” Jaejoong said.
“Why not?” I asked this time, confused.
“SM hires and basically has the final say on everyone that works for us,” Yoochun explained, a grim look settling on his face. “From all our assistants to the stylists to the props people backstage.” (A/N: this may or may not be true, okay, guys? I don't think this is entirely true with them before, but for this story, let's go along with this, okay? XD)
This made me raise my eyebrows. “So, you don’t get any say at all? Not even on your personal assistants?”
They all shook their heads.
“So, you can see why the management will know at once that you being our personal assistant is a lie,” Yunho sighed.
“And you guys are okay with that? With not gettng much say on who works with and for you?” I asked blankly. I mean, that had to be kind of tough, if all the people who “work” for you were hired by your management, meaning that they’ll be loyal to SM first before to the boys.
“Of course not,” Jaejoong said, the bitterness in his voice startling me.
“Jae,” Yunho reprimanded softly.
Jaejoong made himself calm down a bit, but continued on nevertheless, “You know it’s true, Yunho. It’s a way for them to keep tabs on us.”
“To control us, even,” Yoochun added, frowning.
“It doesn’t necessarily have to be that way,” Yunho tried to point out gently. It seemed to me that this was definitely what not the first time he had heard of such comments from s. “And besides, you can’t deny that SM only hires the best of the best to work for and with us.”
Changmin did a big swallow of the toast in his mouth and said, “Yeah, that is true.”
Meanwhile, I was already panicking in my head.
Not that there was any doubt left on my head on what my mission here was, but what was happening now was really making me see how there’s already a line starting to form between them with regards to SM. What were to be HoMin and JYJ were already having different, and opposing, takes on the matter.
This wasn’t good.
But how do I even begin to act on my mission?
I was pulled out of my thoughts by Junsu.
Junsu let out a huff of breath. “Well, I suppose so,” he said, though it was clear from his face that he wasn’t really sure of Yunho and Changmin’s stand. Not good, I thought again. “But we’re not really supposed to be discussing our management right now, are we? Let’s stay focused, Erin’s situation is more important.”
“Yeah, Junsu’s right,” Yoochun said, back to his brisk and business-like manner, though obviously just having pulled himself from dark thoughts moments ago. “So… we can’t introduce her as our personal assistant. What do we do instead?”
“Saying she’s a long lost family member to one of us might work?” Junsu suggested.
“I’m not even Korean,” I pointed out, raising an eyebrow.
“That's the point of ‘long lost’, isn’t it? You can be from a part of the family tree that migrated away a long time ago and intermarried and all that…”
“I don’t know, that seems a bit too farfetched,” Jaejoong frowned, his eyebrow knitted together.
“It might work if we say that it’s Changmin she’s related to,” Yoochun said, looking at Changmin. (A/N: Some have said after all that Changmin looks more Malay, right? Lol XD)
“I don’t want to be related to him!” I said loudly as Changmin also shouted at the same time, “I don’t want to be related to her!”
And then we went back to glaring at each other, whatever peace formed by me giving him food now apparently gone.
Beside me, Yunho groaned in dismay.
I’m sorry, oppa, but we’re not going to get along perfectly that fast, apparently, I thought in my head, though my eyes were still focused on Changmin, matching back the angry look that he was giving me.
From my other side, Junsu also put his head on his hands and mumbled, “Not again!”
“Yo, you two!” Yoochun barked at us. “Focus here on the matter at hand, please!”
I tried to let go of my anger as I glanced back at Yoochun. “Either way, Yoochun oppa, that idea’s risky, too. SM can just easily ask his other family members to verify this, and we can’t involve Changmin’s whole family into this just so that they will know what to answer otherwise, if SM asks them.”
Yoochun paused, before saying,
