I agree, Sungkyu deserves a WGO, so here it is.

I doubt I need to say this but here we go, A WGO chapter is a chapter that explains what’s been going on with a particular pair or person outside of the WooMin storyline. In this case, Sungkyu. Because Sungkyu is a center character for this story (and my personal bias) his WGO is quite extensive. I hope you will enjoy the read as you finally get to see what’s been going on in our dear leader’s head. <3

WHAT’S GOING ON : SUNGKYU

▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀

“Wake up.” Sungkyu commanded sleepily from Woohyun’s bedside. There was still a sleepy haze around him but he knew he needed to wake the kids and naturally to do that he needed Woohyun. There was no reaction from the younger boy. “Yah, Woohyun, wake up.” He tried again, a little bit more forcefully.

“Not yet.” Came the groggy words of the other boy.

“You have to.” Sungkyu said, feeling this would take longer than usual he lowered himself onto the boy’s bed.

“I’m tired.” The boy groaned. Sungkyu narrowed his eyes. He didn’t pity the other at all. It was his own fault.

“You should have slept in the car instead of texting Key.” He nagged, after all it was his specialty. He noticed the boy open one eye to look at him. A playful look came to his face.

“How do you know it was Key? I might have a girlfriend.” This idea was even more annoying than the truth and Sungkyu was in no mood to play with his dongsaeng.

“You don’t have time for a secret girlfriend, and I saw his name on your phone.” He complained but stopped when he notice Woohyun had opened his other eye.

“You were spying on me?” He asked, the same smile still on his face. It made the leader feel uncomfortable suddenly. He grunted and pushed the boy’s leg.

“Just wake up.” He complained. He was thankful when he saw the boy sit up and smile at him. They sat like that for a moment before Sungkyu stood up, suddenly feeling awkward again. “Let’s go get the kids.”

He didn’t want to. He really didn’t want to. Sungkyu tried to ignore it but then that nagging voice in the back of his head reminded him. Their goodbye stage was coming up soon. It was important that they perform flawlessly because of their reputation of 99.9% synchronization. His eyes flickered over to Sungjong. The maknae was trying so hard. He could see the sweat rolling down the side of the boy’s face. Sungkyu always felt cruel in moments like this. Like a parent criticizing their child’s drawing. He could tell they were all putting their hearts into it, but he was the leader, it was his job to make sure they were doing it correctly. Wasn’t it better to show them where they were doing wrong so that while they devoted themselves to it they would be practicing correctly? With a sigh he finally spoke.

“Sungjong, you’re doing your leg wrong. It’s supposed to be like this.” He said, showing the maknae how he should stand. “You got it?” He asked. The younger boy just nodded, brushing sweat off of his face. “Show me.” The younger boy moved into position and mimicked the leader’s actions. “That’s still not right, here, look in the mirror. Let’s do it together.” Sungkyu said, moving to stand beside the maknae. The other members watched on quietly, each cleaning off their faces of sweat. Once he was satisfied with Sungjong’s work, Sungkyu turned his attention to Sungyeol and Myungsoo. “You two are both doing your arms wrong at this point. It’s supposed to be like this.” He said, showing them what the move should look like. “Make sure you watch everyone to do it right not just each other.” He said. The two boys looked tired and annoyed, Myungsoo more so than Sungyeol who just nodded and pushed his hair back. Sungkyu knew that Myungsoo didn’t like being scolded but that’s not how he intended it. He sighed, feeling the usual resentments already being ignited. It was always like this, later behind his back they would complain about him. He really wished they would realize that he was just doing what was best for them. Like a parent who tells their child to study for a big exam. They want to do well but they just don’t want to be told what to do. He looked over at Woohyun. He really was the only support Sungkyu had in moments like this. He was the only one who seemed to understand him. Sungkyu took a breath and spoke again. “Let’s go again.” He said, restarting the music.

After getting his hair and makeup done, Sungkyu looked around the room at his team. Hoya was talking to Sungjong while the maknae’s makeup was being finished up. Sungyeol and Myungsoo were sitting by the wall looking at something on Sungyeol’s phone. He couldn’t help but wonder if they were really interested in what was on the screen or just wanted an excuse to sit so close together. The idea made him smile slightly. It was cute. Dongwoo was asleep in his chair while the stylist worked on his hair. He was glad to see the boy sleeping, it was better for the stylist otherwise he would be bouncing around.

After looking around a bit more he noticed that Woohyun wasn’t there. It didn’t take him long to figure out where he was. If Woohyun wasn’t in the prep room with the team, and SHINee was performing on the same night, he would be with Key. Admittedly the idea slightly bothered the leader but at the same time he had seen the boy finish his hair and makeup earlier so at least he knew he was ready to perform. What he did with his time once he was prepared was really up to him. Even though it had a tendency to strike a sore cord with Sungkyu, he also acknowledged that the WooKey friendship was healthy for the heart thrower.

“I’m the oldest. It’s not my fault I’m the leader. We were all friends before. I might be hard on everyone at times but we still have fun. How come every time we go on weekly idol you all act like you hate me or that I’m a bad person? You always pick on me! Did you know I won first place for most failed leader or whatever it was?” Sungkyu ranted, some of his words slurring together. Even though he was together with Dongwoo, Woohyun, Sungyeol and Myungsoo, only the dino was paying him any attention. Thankfully, he had drank so much that it really didn’t matter anymore. He needed to vent even if no one was listening. Dongwoo reached out a cheerful hand to comfort his leader but missed. Sungkyu went quiet as he watched his drink spill across the table. How many times had Dongwoo spilled drinks tonight? He hadn’t bothered to keep count but it seemed like a lot. Then he wondered how much it would cost. It was a waste to pay for drinks you didn’t even get to drink. He turned to Dongwoo preparing to share these thoughts. The secondary leader was already busy wiping up the spilled drink. He was distracted for a moment when he heard Woohyun whisper in his ear.

“I’ll go get you a new one.” Sungkyu felt his heart jump in surprise and then looked up at the younger boy. Woohyun was already standing, preparing to leave the room. The haze Sungkyu felt cleared momentarily as he looked at the other. Woohyun had been drinking as much as him but wasn’t talking much tonight. Normally he would be just as loud as the leader. In fact, usually they ended up joining forces and nagging the other members. But tonight he was quiet. He must really have a lot on his mind. The kinds of things he wouldn’t openly share with them. He nodded to the younger, letting him know he understood, and watched his back as he left the room. When he turned back to the table he saw Dongwoo was still trying to clean up. This reignited the drunken haze and Sungkyu began nagging him.

“You shouldn’t drink if you’re gonna spill everyone’s drinks. I should make you pay for the drinks you spill.” He said. Dongwoo was just laughing as he cleaned it up. It was really cute how the dino laughed no matter what was going on. Well, that wasn’t true. He cried if something bad happened or if he was being scolded by superiors but he didn’t mind Sungkyu nagging him. That was a good thing.

The drink was cleaned up but Woohyun still wasn’t back with the replacement. Sungkyu felt uncomfortable. He didn’t like this feeling. Wondering where the other was. At least when they were at performances he could be sure that the other was with Key. He reached into his pocket and pulled out his phone.

•------»Sungkyu«------•

ȯ Where are you?

•------»Woohyun«------•

╚» Outside with Key. He’s drunk.

Sungkyu couldn’t help but laugh lightly to himself. Of course he was with Key. Even at a time like this. If Woohyun wasn’t with Sungkyu or Sungyeol he would be with Key.

•------»Sungkyu«------•

ȯ Key is here?

•------»Woohyun«------•

ȯ Ya. I was surprised too. Waiting for Minho to come pick him up.

•------»Sungkyu«------•

ȯ Want me to come wait with you?

He glanced around the room. Dongwoo had spilt his own drink and was trying to clean it up now. He raised an eyebrow as he saw Myungsoo lean into Sungyeol. They obviously were kissing. As soon as he saw the boy pulling back he looked back to his phone but he had to hold back a smile. Those reckless kids.

•------»Woohyun«------•

╚» Thanks but I got it. It shouldn’t take too long.

•------»Sungkyu«------•

╚» Better not. I’m still waiting for that drink.

•------»Woohyun«------•

╚» Can’t you just admit you miss me?

Sungkyu stared at the last message. He didn’t know how to respond.

He must have missed Woohyun after all, because when he felt his phone vibrate again he practically jumped out of his seat to answer it. That’s when he realized it wasn’t another text from the boy but a phone call from Key. Even though he thought it was odd that the SHINee blonde would call him, he didn’t put much thought into it.

“Hello?” He answered the phone. Even though the room wasn’t very loud, he was certain he would have heard the next words no matter how loud it had been because when Key said them it seemed like a scream echoing in his ear.

“Woohyun is hurt! Come quick! Woohyun and Minho! There was a bus!” The boy was talking in cuts but Sungkyu didn’t need to know more than the first sentence. He was already coming to his feet.

“Where are you?” He asked sternly. He could hear the boy crying on the other end of the line.

“Down the road to the left. There was a bus. There wasn’t any time.” Key cried.

“Did you call emergency services?” Sungkyu asked. He pushed Dongwoo to get his attention and motioned for Myungsoo to grab Sungyeol. The two looked at him and he motioned for them to follow him.

“No” Key answered.

“Hang up and call emergency services. We’re on our way.” Sungkyu said and hung up his phone before the other could respond.

“What’s going on?” Myungsoo asked. Dongwoo seemed to sense the severity of the situation and looked almost completely sober as well.

“Woohyun’s been in an accident. Key’s calling an ambulance now.” As he spoke Sungkyu was digging into his pockets for his wallet. He didn’t know how much they owed but he knew it couldn’t be more than what he had on him so he just put it all on the table. “Let’s go.” He said.

Soon they were running down the side of the road. They didn’t have to go far before he saw the bus Key had mentioned. Before he saw the two bodies lying next to it. Key was crying on the side of the road just looking at the scene in front of him. He still had his phone clung between his hands.

“Dongwoo, go to Key.” Sungkyu called behind him. Even though the other boy was already sobbing behind him he knew the boy would do as he was told. Sungkyu ran straight to the two bodies. The ambulance was already there placing Woohyun onto a stretcher. “I’m his hyung.” He told the two men who were moving his friend.

“We can only take one person with us.” One of the men said, motioning to the four boys standing somewhere behind Sungkyu.

“I’m going with him. The blonde goes with the other boy.” The man nodded. Sungkyu turned back to look at Key. “Key, you should ride with Minho to the hospital.” He turned his attention to Myungsoo who was completely sober. “Myungsoo, call the manager to come get you three. I’m going with Woohyun.” The boy nodded and Sungkyu climbed into the ambulance.

It was only after the doors of the ambulance were closed and the others out of sight that he let his leader façade fade. Only then could he see the scratches and blood on the younger boy lying unconscious in front of him. Even though he could tell there weren’t any serious wounds, he couldn’t stop the tears from coming to his eyes.

He didn’t know if it was the alcohol or the stress that had gotten to him but somehow he had managed to get some sleep. It wasn’t even comfortable but once he knew Woohyun was safe in his hospital bed it was like Sungkyu was finally able to power down. He didn’t even realize how tired he was. He didn’t know how long he had managed to rest before he was woken by the sounds of voices. He would have ignored them, perhaps thinking they were just the teammates being noisy, but then he heard Woohyun’s voice coming from somewhere behind him. He sat up and looked momentarily at the empty bed in front of him. When he turned to look at the door he saw Woohyun, Minho, Taemin and Key. What were they fighting about? He instantly got to his feet.

“What’s going on here?” He asked as he approached from behind Woohyun.

“You are here!” Minho cried out happily. “I knew you wouldn’t have left m-…Woohyun in the hospital alone.” He added. Sungkyu looked at the tall boy curiously. He didn’t know the boy well on a good day much less this one.

“I’m really sorry. Minho just woke up and was acting weird. Suddenly he jumped up and asked the nurse where Woohyun was and came here. We tried to catch him…but he’s fast.” Key explained. Sungkyu simply nodded before looking to Minho.

“Is there something you wanted?” He asked, his voice making it clear he was not pleased to see SHINee right now.

“I need to talk to Woohyun alone. It’s really important. I promise we won’t fight.” Minho said. His eyes were focused solely on Sungkyu. Even though it was obvious that the boy was trying to convince him of this, all Sungkyu could think about was the realization that the two had fought. So that’s how they had ended up in the street. The idea just made him even angrier.

“I think you two have talked enough for one day.” He said, putting a protective arm around Woohyun’s shoulder. He was caught by surprise when the younger boy dodged out of his reach. He wasn’t sure what to think until the other spoke.

“I…I want a moment alone with him also.”

The ride back to the dorms was quiet. Practice had gone horribly and for once Woohyun hadn’t been there to lighten to mood before they returned home. There were plenty of times the members were at odds with each other but Woohyun always seemed to know how to put them together again. As it was, Woohyun was back at the dorms, probably waiting for them to return. Sungkyu held his breath. Just a little longer. Once they got home and Woohyun saw the state of things he would surely find a way to cool everyone down.

As soon as they got inside the dorm Sungjong went straight to his room and slammed the door, let out an angry scream and threw something against the door. It was normal for the maknae to vent like this so Sungkyu didn’t worry too much. He’d be talking to them again by the end of the day.

“That poor teddy bear…” Sungyeol said jokingly. Myungsoo laughed but Sungkyu wasn’t humored. He glared at the two and then looked upon the rest. He spoke louder than normal hoping Sungjong would also hear him.

“I know you guys are tired. We are all tired, but it’s important that we give it our all right now.”

“What happened?” Woohyun asked curiously. Sungkyu sighed.

“I don’t think I’ve ever seen a worse practice. People kept missing their spots and forgetting to lipsync. Hoya and Dongwoo even bumped into each other.” He said, motioning to the two behind him.

“It was just one practice right? I’m sure everyone will do better next time.” Woohyun said, looking around at everyone. Sungkyu felt like the air had been out of the room. What was this? Woohyun knew just as well as Sungkyu how important practice was. He didn’t understand what was going on. Was the boy mad at him for something? Was he trying to cause problems?

“I really can’t believe you just said that. Just one practice?” He felt like he was going to explode. All the stress from the day was weighing on him. That’s when he noticed something odd. Woohyun…wasn’t he wearing Sungkyu’s shirt and jacket? He looked at the boy puzzled. He wondered if he should say something ab
