Parents? Distant yet Longing

Everytime we talk, I'll fall a little harder.

"Are you sure you're alright on your own?" asked Yuri worriedly for the nth time after they left the Kims castle.

"For goodness sake Yul!"
"How many times are you going to repeat this?!"
"You sound like a broken recorder, seriously!" exasperated Jessica dramatically with both her hands shot up into the air.

Yuri's eyes dropped.

"Look, i promise you i'll be fine okay?"
"4 days later, when you're here to pick me up"
"I'll still be alive and kicking like now"
"So quit worrying about me" smiled Jessica assuringly as she held onto Yuri's free hand since another one was on the steering wheel.

"How could i not be worrying for you're someone so important to me?"
"How could i not be worrying for you when the doctors said that the side effects will kick in during your rest period?"
"How could i not be worrying for you when you acted like you are all so strong but yet so fragile inside?!"
"HOW?!" exasperated Yuri in distress.

"Awww, my Yul is so stressed up, isnt she?" teased Jessica playfully as she pinched Yuri's chubby cheeks.
"Come on, Yul, trust me alright?"
"And, is it better now that you've gotten everything off your chest?"
"Shouting whats keeping inside you at me?" asked Jessica casually with a smile.

"Sweetheart.."
"I didnt mean to shout at you.."
"Im just worried" said Yuri sadly with a frown.

Jessica's POV

Im sorry Yul, i didnt because of me,
you're so stressed up.

I promise you, i'll be fine.
I'll be safe.
Because i dont want to leave you,
not just after im with you.
I wanna experience the happiness Tiffany and Sunny is experiencing.
I really want to be loved, by you.

I know, to you im being selfish right now.
But i just dont want to see you see me being in discomfort because of the side effects that i'll be facing.
To me, i think im being selfless.
Pretty noble though?

I know whenever you see me in pain,
or just a slight discomfort your heart will ache.
I'll rather you stay away and worry instead of your heartaching for me.

End of Jessica's POV

"I know i know" smiled Jessica cutely.
"Its okay, i'll be fine"
"Anyway, i need you to do something for me"

"Anything for you sweetheart"

"Help me get my lab report from the doctors tomorrow"
"But dont tell me the results nor bring me the results"
"Just let me know when you're picking me up back to the hospital alright?" said Jessica with a pair of pleading eyes.

Yuri shot Jessica a 'i-dont-understand' look,
together with,"Why?"

Jessica smiled sadly.

"Thats because i dont want my shortlived holiday to be even shortlived at the bad news Yul"

Yuri frowned as she pulled her car to a halt.
Beside the car, was a huge familiarly looking mansion.

"You're here"

"Thanks Yul" said Jessica as she unbuckled her seatbelt.

Yuri couldnt help but pulled Jessica into a surprise hug.
Yuri's hands, one over the back of Jessica's head while the other around her back.

"You'll be fine sweetheart"
"The report, it will turn out well" whispered Yuri assuringly.

Jessica nodded with a smile as she broke hug.

"I believe so too" lied Jessica.

"Good"
"Now get going alright?"
"Dont stay out here in the cold for long" said Yuri concernly.
"If not i'll get down with you and tuck you in bed"

Jessica's hands immediately came up to Yuri's face.

"Aniya"
"Its okay"
"I'll get off now before you cant get yourself to leave me" chuckled Jessica.

Jessica then quickly got off the car.
Before she entered her mansion, she turned back to Yuri again.
However, Yuri just waved to Jessica, urging her to get back in.

Deep inside Yuri, she really couldnt tell how much she didnt want to leave Jessica.
She was worried, really worried.
But she couldnt afford to break yet another promise to Jessica.
After interacting with humans for quite some time, Yuri realised that to humans,
trust is something that are supposed to built over time but could be easily shattered into pieces with just a light small touch.

With a soft sigh, Jessica got back into the mansion while Yuri drove off.
Back in her wide room, lying onto the huge queen size bed,
Jessica slowly closed her eyes as if shes in deep thoughts..

Just then, a knock on her room door was heard.

"Nugu?" asked Jessica.

"Agasshi"
"Im the butler here" replied the butler over the door.

"Alright, come on in"

The butler entered the room politely with a bow.

"Whats wrong?" asked Jessica, not bothering to get up nor opening her eyes.

"Im here to check if you need anything agasshi"
"And.."

"Well, i probably need a cup of milk and a cup of warm water if you think what would i need"
"And for your info, according to your tone you sounded worried"
"Im perfectly fine"
"I just need something down my stomach before taking my medicine" said Jessica casually.

"We'll get those for you right away"

"Wait, didnt you have something else to say too?"

The butler turned and rubbed the back of his head awkwardly.

"Agasshi, Mr and Mrs Jung is returning tonight"
"They said they have something to talk to you about"

"Appa and omma?" asked Jessica almost immediately at the mention of her parents.

She immediately sat up, eyes lit up.
Although her face had lost colour, but just by mentioning the return of her parents,
nothing matters anymore.

The butler nodded with a smile.

"Can you prepare a nice meal then?"
"A nice dinner, have yet to spend a decent meal with them for ages" said Jessica happily.

"Of course"
"I'll go and prepare now" said the butler as he turned for the door.

After the butler left the room, Jessica let out a soft sigh as she moved to her bag,
fishing out a piece of paper, printed with a table.
It was given by the doctors and she were supposed to take down her temperature thrice a day during her rest period at home so that the doctors could monitor it when she gets back.
Not wanting Yuri to fuss over her when she meet her again, Jessica decided to just do as she was told.

Putting the thermometer into , under her tongue,
Jessica sat on the seat and waited.

Just as the thermometer beeped, the butler came into the room with a tray in his hands and a bouquet of flowers.
Jessica just pointed to the butler to leave the tray of stuff and the bouquet of flowers on the side table and leave.

Jessica's POV

You must be kdding me..
38.6degrees..?
Hell, what is this?

I've just got home.
Nevermind, i'll just get the medicine and sleep it off.
Im sure it will go off.

End of Jessica's POV

After recording the temperature, Jessica then gulped down the cup of milk.
Then, Jessica emptied the bag of medicine that Yuri had gotten her.
Picking up the bouquet of flowers, Jessica fished out a card in it.

Honeystar, congratulations for completing your first cycle of treatment.
You did well, didnt you?
3 cheers for yourself, have you done that?
Well, this is my eighth bouquet of flowers to you.
Have you felt my love?

Im just kidding.
You must be rolling your eyes now right?
To be frank, i miss that honeystar.
But i've saw how happy and sweet you were with Yuri.
I guess thats enough.
I wont be appearing in your life, disrupting your life unless you wanted to see me.
As long as that day exists, open up your windows and i'll be there.

For now, i'll just be your guardian angel.
Feel better honeystar
I'll always be watching out for your back from now.

Your guardian angel,
Mutt.

"Guardian angel, how romantic~" chuckled Jessica mockingly as she smelled the flowers with a grateful smile before turning to the packets of medicine.
"Wow, rainbow huh?" mocked Jessica sacarstically to herself.

Over there, were medicine to be taken before meals, after meals,
only during night time or morning etc etc.
Jessica read everything thoroughly before plopping the pills into and swallowing it with the aid of the water.

Plopping back to her bed, Jessica immediately fell into a deep slumber minutes later.
The medicine must be really strong to knock her out within minutes.
Hours later, Jessica had slowly stirred from her sleep.
Slowly sitting up from her bed, she felt even dizzier as compared.
Staggering out of her room dizzily, she found her happiness for a short moment.

The two figures shes been longing for,
ever since she was young.
And now even more after she's sick.
Tried her best to run towards them without tripping over,
Jessica went from the back and hugged her mum tightly.

"Omma, i missed you"

Mrs Jung was about to turn but Jessica broke the hug and went to Mr Jung,
and too back hugged him tightly.

"Appa, i missed you too"

Mr Jung turned and pulled Jesisca away from him.
Jessica smiled as she pulled them over to the dining table,
showing them the wide spread of food prepared for them.

"Appa, omma"
"Lets have dinner together!" cheered Jessica happily as she settled back at the seat she had always sat.

Mr and Mrs Jung had now also settled down at the dining table.
But this time, they were with a solemn look.

"Whats wrong..?" asked Jessica softly at their expression.
"Does the food not appeal you?"

"Listen Sooyeon"
"We've got something to talk to you about"
"First, tell us why have you been skipping school for months and the school has been calling us like crazy"
"Did you know how much trouble we had to go through because of your truancy?"
"The best part is, you're not even home!"
"Where were you?!" scolded Mr Jung sternly.

Jessica's eyes dropped as it turned teary.

"You know we had high expectations of you Sooyeon"
"But how could you do such stuff?!"
"And you even constantly got yourself into the hospital!"
"Trying to get our attention, is that what you're trying to do?!" added Mrs Jung with a fierce look.

"Chaeseonghamnida.." whispered Jessica softly with her head casted downwards.

"Sorry doesnt help Sooyeon"
"Now, what we want to get this into the brain of yours now is that"
"We want you to go back to school"
"This time, we're sending you to the US"
"We're giving you a choice to choose, whether do you want to study business or medicine?" asked Mr Jung strictly.

Mr Jung's tone was totally not for any negotiation.
With his stern look, it was scaring Jessica off.
She's only 18 afterall.
Her heart's young.

"US?"
"Appa.. Cant i study here..?"

"Your results here are pretty decent to get admitted into a reputable medicine or business school there"
"And the degree there is much more well respected here in Korea" said Mrs Jung bluntly.

"Stop making us wait"
"We need your choice if not we'll be making for you" added Mr Jung.

The three, were seated at the dining table with a wide spread.
But none of the touched the food, as the atmosphere fell into a deep cold silence.

"Since its like this, dear"
"I think we'll decide for her"
"She'll get into business since she's the only heir to my business"

After pondering for a few minutes, Mrs Jung nodded in agreement.

"Right i guess its true dear"
"Sooyeon, you'll be studying business in order to take over your dad's business"
"Is that clear?"

At the moment of time, Jessica's vision was blurring really badly.
Her head was getting spinning spells, and her face colour was running off.
Jessica dizzily stood with tears trickling down her face.

"Appa, omma"
"What if, what if im left with a lifespan that would soon be gone..?"
"Would you all still send me away..?"
"Would you all even be bothered about me..?"

Mr and Mrs Jung looked puzzled as they stood up from their seats.
With a questioning look, Mr Jung spoke.

"What kind of joke are you playing?"
"You're perfectly fine, why would your lifespan be gone?"
"Stop trying anything stupid because you know it wont work on us"

"Precisely Sooyeon"
"Stop playing around because you'll still be going there no matter what"

Jessica's tears flowed even more freely at the amount of hurt she felt,
upon hearing those words.

"I mean if, if.."
"I really dont mean so much to you two right..?"
"Even how much i tried, how much i tried to do well in school.."

"Sooyeon" said Mr Jung, this time his voice was getting a little impatient.
"There is no 'if's"
"And, things like those doesnt matter anymore"
"Now, sit back down for your dinner"

Jessica shook her head sadly and turned away from the dinning hall,
dejected and sad.

"Sooyeon you!"
"Where do you think you're going?!" scolded Mrs Jung angrily.

Jessica turned to her parents with a weak smile.

"Im really tired of trying omma.."
"I really am.."
"Appa.. om-"

Jessica stopped suddenly as her whole body gave up on her.
Blood were slowly flowing out of her nose, weakly dropping onto the floor with a huge thud.
Jessica's grandfather, who had just returned home from the hospital threw his briefcase away and dashed towards Jessica in tears.

"Sooyeon.." called Old Mr Jung sadly.
"Why arent anyone getting her back to the bed?!"

Butlers started coming over to Jessica,
slowlying bringing her up to the bed.
Old Mr Jung was still at the dinning room,
glaring at Jessica's parents in anger.

"What were you doing to Sooyeon?!"
"Why did you two make her faint?!"
"In tears!"
"And none of you bothered to pick her up!"
"To think that she thought of the two of you in any other way that benefits you two"
"What kind of parents are you?!" shouted Old Mr Jung furiously with his index fingers pointing at the two.

"She just fainted appa"
"She probably didnt get enough rest and wanted some attention from us thats all" said Mrs Jung with a casual shrug.

"Minyeon!"
"Where have the vow you made when you first got your nurse license went?!" boomed Old Mr Jung angrily.
"If the one who fainted were some stranger, would you help?!"
"Or leave him/her aside because you assume that they needed attention?!"

"Appa, Sooyeon's still young"
"She's still growing up thus she tends to get a little childish at times" said Mr Jung bluntly.
"You dont have to get so worked up over her"
"You're hurting your own health to be like this over Sooyeon"
"Just get a doctor here and she'll get better"

"You two!"
"What kind of parents are you?!"
"If i want you two to take care of her, throwing your job aside"
"You two wouldnt even say yes!"

Mr and Mrs Jung looked at each other,
with the same expression.

"Now, even your appa doesnt have any right in this house!"
"Im better off dead, isnt it?!"
"A pair of children of mine who doesnt care for their own children!"

"Whats wrong with Sooyeon?" asked Mrs Jung finally with Mr Jung nodded reluctantly.

"Whats wrong with her?!"
"You're the senior head nurse, you've had so much experience!"
"Why not you go check it out and tell it to me?!"

Mr and Mrs Jung nodded and quickly went up to Jessica's room,
seeing a unconscious figure on the bed.

Mrs Jung, as a nurse quickly went over to give Jessica a quick check up with the equipment she have inside her bag for emergency.
Shinning the torchlight in Jessica's eyes, Mrs Jung was convinced that Jessica really fainted.
But what shocked her was Jessica's temperature.
It was dangerously high, quickly taking her temperature Mrs Jung gasped.

"Whats wrong dear?"

Mrs Jung showed Mr Jung Jessica's temperature.

"Why is she having such a high temperature yet not telling us?"
"Its a boiling of 43degrees dear"

Mrs Jung then went over to take clean the blood of Jessica's nose,
putting a piece of small cotton over it while Mr Jung went over to the bathroom and came back,
with a bowl of iced water and towel.
Twisiting it, he put it over Jessica's burning forehead but heard some incoherent cries from Jessica unconsciously,
which slowly turned audible to Mr and Mrs Jung.

"Appa.. Omma.."
"Im really sorry.."
"Im sorry for upsetting you.."
"Maybe because im not.."
"Feeling.. well.."
"Im cold.."
"Omma.. appa.."

Mr Jung started to look worried as he turned to his wife.

"Whats wrong with her dear?"
"Why is Sooyeon like this?"

Mrs Jung shrugged with a worried look as she took a stethoscope and put it over Jessica's chest,
but felt something hard there.
Slowly ing Jessica's top, Mr and Mrs Jung was shocked to see the long cathether inside it.
This certainly doesnt mean she was just merely not receiving enough rest.

"Something's terribly wrong dear"
"We need to get her to the hospital" said Mrs Jung as her voice trembled in worries.

Suddenly, something caught Mr Jung's attention as he went from his knelt down position to the side table of Jessica's and picked up a whole bag of medicine.
Mrs Jung quickly snatched the bag of medicine and emptied it,
reading the names of the different medicine thoroughly while Mr Jung randomly picked up a pack.

"Dear, she just got it today"
"And this receipt, she had just been discharged from the hospital today"
"Didnt you know?" asked Mr Jung as he turned to Mrs Jung.

To his surprise, Mrs Jung,
her eyes started to tear up, holding to the packs of medicine in her hands.

"Whats wrong dear?" asked Mr Jung worriedly as he shook Mrs Jung's shoulders lightly.

"Dear.."
"We've been a bad parents.. arent we..?"
"Sooyeon.. she's been admitted into the hospital for a few times but i didnt really take time to know why.."
"I just brushed it off.."
"I just scolded her.."

"Whats wrong dear..?" repeated Mr Jung worriedly, watching his wife cry in sadness.

"Dear.. we cant.."
"We cant lose Sooyeon.."

"Dear.."
"What are you talking about..?"

Mrs Jung brought the medicine up to Mr Jung's face,
with teary eyes.

"These"
"These medicines are prescribed for patients with cancer"
"To be exact, leukemia.."
"And these were one of the strongest medicine.." cried Mrs Jung sadly as Mr Jung hugged her tightly.

"How can this be..?"
"Sooyeon used to be really healthy.."
"How could things change so drastically..?" asked Mr Jung as he caressed Mrs Jung's hair softly.

Mrs Jung shrugged as she broke off the hug and went to Jessica's study table.
Picking up the piece of paper, Mrs Jung cried even harder.
It was Jessica's temperature monitoring chart..
She was already running a high fever ever since she got back from the hospital.

"Dear.."
"How much did this silly girl went through..?"
"She went through her first chemotheraphy without us by her side"
"Without her parents.." cried Mrs Jung as she read Jessica's first chemotheraphy report.

Mr Jung stood there shock, until they heard Jessica's weak movement on the bed.
Jessica was stirring from her sleep.

"Omma.."
"Haljima.." whispered Jessica weakly as her hands were reaching out to Mrs Jung.
"Omma.. chaeseonghamnida.."

Mrs Jung turned to Jessica in tears, but was at a loss of what to do and say.
She just ran out of the room, following behind was Mr Jung.
Jessica saw what happened, and started crying to herself,
thinking that her parents were gonna start quarrelling again.
Slowly picking herself with as much strength as she was left, she went over to the drawers of the side table beside her bed and took out her mp3 player.
Putting the earphones into her ears, she started playing her playlist.

The white starlight, the black darkness
is pushing me away from far
When i look at you with my smile
I always become farther apart

When i call you, when i look for you
Come to me as the wind
Hug me in secret
So i can feel you
You are always next to me

The blue sky has dyed you.
Before you find out about my love
Don't feel bad for me, if you understand my tears
you will be able to laugh too

When i call you, when i find you
Come to me as the wind
Hug me in secret
So i can feel you
You are always next to me

Love~ Like my song is my wind forever
Do you hear it too?
You leave so many memories
I only think about you

When i call you, when i find you
Come back to me as the rain
Whisper to me under the umbrella.
I loved you more
so i am hurting more

LaLaLa

How can i convey it to you
My heart that really loved you
How is my love

over there, like that
That love I will now...I love you

Sadly, this song was played the first thing Jessica pressed the 'PLAY' button on her mp3.
It couldnt help Jessica stop her sadness, but progressed it even further.
Bursting with frustration, Jessica threwed the mp3 away roughly in the room and hugged her knees,
crying her hearts out.
Seconds later, Jessica's nose started bleeding again as her vision started to get blurry again.

"WHY?!"
"WHY?!" exploded Jessica in tears.
"Why dont you love me?!"
"Am i so unwanted?!"
"Why did you give birth to me then?!" screamed Jessica as tears trickled down her face.

The face, the face that her parents shown her right after she woke up.
The face, expression, was something that hurt Jessica so much.
It made Jessica felt so unwanted, so unloved.

At that moment, the urge of leaving,
the urge of dying was so strong for Jessica.
She staggered off from her bed and grabbed a penknife from her table.

Just as she was about to slit her wrist,
her room door shot open and her parents were standing there in shock with tears.

"Haljima!!" shouted Mr and Mrs Jung.

Before Jessica could slit her wrist, her vision darkened and turned black within seconds as her lethargically weak body gave in.
With a loud thud, Jessica fell onto the cold hard ground yet again.
This time, with a pained expression even though her eyes were closed.

Mr Jung then quickly carried Jessica up onto her bed.
As soon as he carried Jessica, he silently cussed inside him that how much had this poor kid gone through.
This poor kid, didnt even dare to tell her own parents about her illness.
How much fear had they inflicted on her that caused her to be like this.
How much did she go through to grow so thin and pale.

"Dear, should we get her to the hospital now?"
"Her fever is so high right now.." said Mr Jung worriedly look at Jessica's pained expression as beads of cold sweat were tricking down her forehead.

Jessica was thrashing around with incoherent mumblings.

"She must be having fever dreams.." muttered Mrs Jung in tears.
"There's nothing we can do now, dear"
"Sooyeon had just finished her first chemotheraphy cycle and if im not wrong"
"Now is her rest period thats why these side effects are kicking in"

"But we cant leave her in pain like this!"

"We can only try to lower her temperature down, dear"
"Her immune system, is extremely low now"
"I should call the someone in the hospital to get some supplies now" said Mrs Jung as she wiped her tears and excused herself from the room to make a call.

An hour later, Mrs Jung came into the room with bags of supplies.
She was preparing to get antibiotics through Jessica's veins to lower her fever because it was extremely dangerous.
Holding onto her arms, Mrs Jung's heart cringed a little at the skinny, pale fragile arms.
Gently inserting the infus into Jessica's arms, trying not to hurt her but still heard a soft wince from Jessica as a tear trickled down her face.

"Neomu.. apa.."
"Omma.. appa.."
"Saranghae.." mumbled Jessica in her sleep.

Mrs Jung couldnt help but felt so sad and guilty for what she had not done for Jessica.
The amount of time she didnt give Jessica, the attention that she needed most.
The fierce, strict and stern parents they were to the extend that Jessica's afraid of the family members that were closest to her.
Jessica was afraid to even tell them about her illness but told her grandfather about it.

Mrs Jung's POV

I accompanied so many patients through their illness..
I accompanied so many without parents as their parents to support and encourage them..
I accompanied those elderly without children as their children to support and encourage them..

What about Sooyeon?
Im her biological mother..
What have i done for her..?
I even left her alone, alone for her first chemotheraphy.
Her age, it was an extremely process for people of that age or even younger.
Everyone who were of that age, going through their first chemotheraphy should have their family members with them.

Where am I for Sooyeon despite the fact that im working in the hospital every single day.
Im sorry Sooyeon..
I havent been a good omma..

End of Mrs Jung's POV

Mr Jung came over and put his hands over Mrs Jung's shoulder comfortingly.
Mrs Jung was reading through Jessica's chemotheraphy report.
It made her heart break even more at the every word she read.

"Dear.."
"We arent even fitted to be called as Sooyeon's omma and appa.."
"You know what did she just went through the last 7 days..?"

Mr Jung shrugged.

"Chemotheraphies.."
"You know how uncomfortable it was..?"
"Patients who went through that i've attended always cried after it"
"Especially the patients of Sooyeon's age"
"And those patients' conditions were in a more positive condition then Sooyeon's.."
"Sooyeon.. Her cancer cells have spreaded towards her spine and she had been receiving injections into her spinal fluid twice daily"
"Twice.. It was the most painful thing that one could ever gone through.."
"The needle piercing into your back, and into your spine.."

"Omo.." gasped Mr Jung in shocked after hearing Mrs Jung explanations.
"And we werent even there for her.."

Mrs Jung nodded sadly.

"We should be there for her"
"I cant figure out, figure out how scared she was"
"Not knowing what was coming up for her"
"And before any treatment was given, leukemia patients like Sooyeon had to go through several tests"
"Like getting bone marrow aspirations, biospies as well as lumbar puncture.."
"It hurts like hell dear.."

"What are we going to do..?"
"To think that we didnt even ask her for her wellbeing when we came back"
"Not being able to notice how under weather she was.."
"We couldnt even take a little time to realise how much she missed us.."
"We even forced her to move to the US to study and take over my business.."
"How much hurt did she felt..?"

"We made her feel like shes so unimportant to us.."
"Dear, lets let Sooyeon rest here first"
"We'll go out and talk to the doctors in the hospital" said Mrs Jung as she turned for the door.

Following behind was Mr Jung with a soft sigh,
taking a last look at her daughter before shutting the door closed.
Few hours later, Jessica had slowly regained consciousness but the pain in her head,
the pounding pain in her head was killing her as she recalled what happened before that.

Taking a look at her surroundings, Jessica realised that she was still in her room,
on her bed, only with a infus inserted into her arms.
Looking around the room, for the last time, Jessica pulled out the infus roughly from her arm which caused it to bleed.
Bringing out a piece of paper and pen, Jessica started writing with trembling hands and she teared up and sniffed.

To my favourite best loving dearest yet beloved parents;

Im sorry for being brought into this world by you two..
Im sorry for the trouble attention that i've caused.
I'll leave now.
You wont look for me, will you?
Dont bother looking for me omma and appa..
I just need you two to live happily..
Because i'll probably leave this world soon..
Yes, i've removed the word 'probably'.
Appa said theres no 'if's in this world.
And 'if's are like 'probably'.

Always loving you.
I'll watch over your health as soon as im gone from this world.

Your daughter,
Sooyeon.

With that, Jessica left the paper and slowly sneaked out of her room and out of the mansion dizzily.
It was nearing the sunrise of the second day of Jessica's rest day.
But it seemed pretty hectic for the first day, and her body wasnt cooperating as she was staggering around the garden of the mansion,
trying to get out of the mansion before anyone sees her.
Her vision was really blurry as it gets darker and darker for every step she took.

On the other hand, Mr and Mrs Jung had just finished talking to the doctors of the hospital,
as well as the doctors they had requested from overseas to be back to treat Jessica,
went back to Jessica's room.
But was shocked to see the room empty with the infus needle in dragging against the cold hard floor.
