He sighed and looked at me straight as he heard me start to object.
“Fine. You asked for it.” He said, pushing my books he decided to carry, towards me and walking away.
I stumbled and fell on the wet ground at the impact of the books and exhaled sharply. I acquired different stares of sympathy from random strangers. I glared at his back and stood up slowly and made my way towards the silent street. I heard people laughing and snickering behind my back probably because of the wet mark that looked like I peed on my skirt.
I was panting heavily and I smiled timidly at the sight of the porch of the orphanage.
But then I stumbled on a rock and my books went flying towards the sewer. I watched in horror as the dirty water soaked my books. I hurriedly rushed to it and picked it up with my two fingers. I heard a door creak open and I saw ahjumma looking at me surprised.
Embarrassed and tired, I felt tears soak my cheeks as I looked at her.
That night I decided to finish the scholarship and go to school determined, like nothing happened.
But I decided to never see him or his friends ever again.
