Cinderella's Screwed-Up Story
The house is empty that Saturday because your step family went out to shop. You go to the garden and start watering the flowers.
"You mean, they'll be gone the whole day just to shop?" Kai asks as he follows you around.
You nod. "Practically so."
Kai stretches his whole body. "I can't imagine being there the whole day. I don't know how you girls do it."
You shrug as you shift to another plant. “They can. I don’t.”
Kai looks at you apologetically. “Well, some days, I’ll take you out.”
“That would be nice.” You smile. You continue to water the other plants silently as Kai continues to follow you. When you finish, you put the watering can down and turn to Kai. “Kai?”
“Yeah?” He puts his hands on his white-pants pocket. “What?”
“If you can do magic, why can’t you just magically pull me out of this nightmare?”
Kai laughs. “You’re right. But it’s not in my limit.”
You enter the house again from the back door and go to the kitchen. “What do you mean by that? And why are you laughing? It isn’t a laughing matter.”
“I'm sorry.” Kai pops his head inside the refrigerator. “No food?”
“I’ll go to the grocery later.” You start to wash the dishes. “You haven’t answered me yet.”
Kai leans on the table as he watches you wash. “You see, we fairies are assigned to one person we are supposed to help. But, given that, we cannot help you with everything.”
You pause with what you’re doing and turn to him. “Why not?”
“What was your wish?”
You tilt your head to the side. “Um… To be happy despite my current situation…” You absorb what you say. “Oh… I get it.”
“But…” Kai walks towards you and leans on the sink. “If you want, I can break the rules.”
“What do you mean?”
Kai smirks. “I can banish those three.”
“No.” You go back to washing the dishes.
“See?” Kai pats your head. “Your wishes are much too nice. You still care for them despite them torturing you.” He jumps up and down like a little kid. “How happy I am that I'm assigned to a sweet girl like you!!”
“Stop that.” You laugh. “You’re like a kid.”
“I am.
