I never really considered Youngjae more than just a friend. We met online and we'd been communicating for almost a year. The idea of meeting each other in real life had been brought up in conversation more than once. He promised that he would come visit me. The problem was the distance - he lived near Seoul while I lived in Busan.

We had started talking on the phone. Often we would talk for hours on end until one or both of us had to go to bed. We were both students after all. We would never run out of things to talk about, though, and it was usually hard to hang up since we both wanted to continue.

"I'm coming to visit you," he said and when I asked when he merely answered: "Soon." I smiled a bit to myself. He always said that. The silence made him insecure, I knew that. "Daehyun?"

"Yeah?" I was on my back on my bed, tracing invisible patterns on the sheets with my finger. He was quiet for a little while and I was about to break the silence when he took in a deep breath and muttered something unintelligible. I frowned. "What?"

"I think I'm in love with you," he repeated a bit slower but not less shakily. I hung up right away.

We haven't spoken for a year and a half.
