Food for the Gods: Painful Cry

As usual, the angel was still sleeping on his bed beside Mingyu, and as expected, Mingyu woke up early to help his father in the vineyard. As soon as Jeonghan woke up, he looked for his guide, but instead of Mingyu, he found Olivia at the kitchen.

Jeonghan:
Good Morning!

(He smiled)

Olivia:

Good morning Angel!

How was your sleep?

I’m sorry that Mingyu let you feel tired in your trip.

Jeonghan:

That was nothing.

I should be thankful to him.

I couldn’t have done anything without him.

Olivia:

Let’s have a breakfast.

(Served the food and the plates.)

Jeonghan;

Oh, let me help you with that.

(He ran towards Olivia to help.)

Olivia:

Sweet child.

Don’t worry, I can do this now.

I’m feeling better and stronger.

Jeonghan:

That’s good to hear.

Olivia:

My operation is successful and now, I just have to stay healthy in order to cook for my boys again.

(She smiled excitedly.)

Jeonghan:

Then, I’ll visit sometimes.

(He laughed)

Jeonghan was a little surprised about himself because he didn’t know that he can be talkative, jolly, and tease sometimes. He knew that he’s good at speaking formally, but not with socializing with other people, since he built up some barrier between him and the others because of his status.

Olivia:

You’re always welcome, Angel. Just drop by anytime.

(While serving Jeonghan her homemade pancake, she started to talk about his son.)

You know, my Carlos, doesn’t want to socialize with people. He’s really shy. He has friends, but he never smile and laugh the way that he did with you.

He really likes you.

(She was happy that his boy finally found a true friend that he enjoys accompanying with.)

I don’t know why he’s isolating himself.

I had a very hard time persuading him to go to school when we came here. Even in Korea.

(She sighed)

But he’s a loving and caring son.

I’m not telling this because I’m his mother, but, I think he’s an angel to me.

Jeonghan:

I think he is.

I never knew he’s not that sociable because I think all of the people in Spello knows and loves him.

Olivia:

Maybe the old ones.

He doesn’t like hanging around with people his age.

(Sighed again)

I don’t know why, but I guess it’s our fault.

Jeonghan:

Don’t think of that. He’s a good man, and I know you did well in raising him.

It’s just that, I think he only has different views on seeing the world.

Olivia:

I guess so. Maybe he’s just like me.

(She giggled)

Jeonghan:

Yes, a very wonderful person!

(He smiled brightly.)

Olivia:

Thank you.

(She giggled sweetly.)

Are you alone, darling?

Jeonghan:

Yes.

Olivia:

It’s sad to travel alone. Even if you see a beautiful place, but there’s no one was there beside you to share the good memories, it’s still sad.

Jeonghan:

That’s why I’m very thankful meeting him.

Olivia:

Why not bring a family or a friend.

Jeonghan:

I have no family left. And my friends took care of many things for me, so that I’d be able to have this vacation.

Olivia:

I’m sorry to hear that, dear.

You have sweet friends!

Jeonghan:

I agree.

(He smiled)

Olivia:

It must be hard for you.

Eat now and we can continue talking.

Jeonghan:

Okay.

(He took a big bite of the fluffy pancake, Olivia made)

Wow! Everything here tastes good!

Olivia:

Really? My husband usually complains about my cooking.

Jeonghan:

Really?!

I will get you from them if that’s the case.

Olivia:

(She laughed gracefully)

You’re adorable!

I want to have a son like you.

Jeonghan:

I will make myself available for adoption.

(He giggled)

Olivia:

Well, I should take a hold of you.

Jeonghan and Olivia felt like they were related somehow. They were comfortable with each other that they were talking like they were blood related. Then, Jeonghan suddenly remembered that he must buy a wine for his sister’s death anniversary.

Jeonghan:

Mama, where can I buy wine here?

Olivia:

Oh, Min Jun and Mingyu went to get one.

Jeonghan:

For?

Oliva:

Mingyu said it’s for you.

Jeonghan:

Oh!

(He thought that Mingyu really cares for him.)

He has the purest heart, Mama.

Olivia:

May I know what the wine is for?

Jeonghan:

Well, I promised that I’d bring her the best wine once in a while.

Olivia:

Oh, do you have a special someone already?

Jeonghan:

Nope. She’s my sister.

Olivia:

(She was quite surprised because Jeonghan said that he’s already alone.)

Is she like a family to you?

Jeonghan:

She’s my real sister.

(She smiled)

She’s in heaven now.

Olivia:

Oh. I see.

May I know what happened?

I’m not forcing you if you don’t want to.

Jeonghan:

She died from a cancer last year and today is her death anniversary.

She’s worried about me until she died.

Olivia:

She must be really nice.

Jeonghan:

She even asked me to have a vacation a week after she’d get buried.

That silly kid!

Olivia:

She must be really worried about you.

I can tell that she worried a lot because you look like someone who’d conceal everything just to protect her. Am I right?

Jeonghan:

I don’t know.

Olivia:

Maybe.

Just make her happy with your smile. I guess she said that to you because she wanted you to relax and have fun.

Jeonghan:

That’s what she really said to me.

(He giggled with a painful smile.)

Olivia:

How dare me to make your morning sad.

Let’s talk about life!

(She noticed that Jeonghan reminisced his painful past because of the topic)

Sweetheart~ what do you want for lunch?

Jeonghan:

(He became alerted.)

Ah-

(Paused for a while)

I haven’t finished my breakfast yet, Mama.

(He laughed)

Olivia:

O, darling, you should get used to that.

Jeonghan:

Okay.

(He giggled sweetly like a kid.)

While having a very comfortable talk with each other, Jeonghan helped Olivia to cook their lunch. Cooking caught his interest, so he looked carefully on how Luisa cooked. Later on, Mingyu and his father, Min Jun, came with three bottle of wines on their hand.

Min Jun:

Good morning, Jeonghan-ah!

Jeonghan:

Good morning papa!

(He giggled)

I’m your new son. Mama adopted me just a while ago.

Min Jun:

(Giggled)

Welcome to the family!

Mingyu:

What are you doing?

(Came near Jeonghan to see.)

Jeonghan:

Cooking!

(He proudly presented what he was doing.)

Mingyu:

Congratulations!

Just make sure it’ll turn out nice.

Jeonghan:

Trust me.

Mingyu:

Aigoo~

Rico:

Good morning!

(He peaked from the divider of their house.)

Oh! What a beautiful couple in the morning!

Min Jun:

Rico, stop teasing our guest, he’s not used to it.

Rico:

I’m not teasing him.

I’m just hoping for a possibility.

(He laughed)

Julia: (Rico’s wife.)

Rico! Don’t mess around in the morning!

(She called)

Rico:

Yes, darling~

Julia:

Is Carlos’ fiancé there?

(She became intrigued as she was misinformed by her own husband.)

Rico:

Oh yes! He has the most beautiful face I’ve ever seen, my love! Well, of course you’re my number one.

(He winked)

Jeonghan:
Good morning!

(He displayed a very beautiful smile to brighten up their day.)

Julia:

(Went to see the princess of the poor prince.)

Oh! Buon Giorno, bella!

You have such a pretty and sweet face!

Carlos and you look together!

(with a distinct ‘r’ sound)

Jeonghan released an awkward but cute chuckle.

Olivia:

Don’t tease my sons, Julia, otherwise…

(She laughed)

Julia:

Otherwise what?

Olivia:

(She smiled endearingly.)

I’ll be expecting something…

(She giggled)

They’re jus

Chapter 3: i want to say a couple of things about this story.
first, i was initially hooked up with this story because it's gyuhan. my guilty pleasure ship.
second, the title reminds me of this desert we had in our menu (i once worked in a pastry dept at a hotel as internship). i was drawn immediately.
third, i love how this involves food (kind of) and like the idea of mingyu as a chef also the setting of this story! man, indeed, Italy is such a pleasant place to visit.

i loved reading this story. been waiting for this to be completed and i was so glad to see it finally done. :)
