Chapter 8
The Monster In My HeadJin Ae thanked the members for the ride and made her way back home. She felt tired and drained out after having those flashes whose meaning she still couldn't decipher.
Not wanting to break her head on it any further, Jin Ae directly went and plopped on her bed. Within no time she drifted to sleep with the exhaustion helping her with it.
It had been 2 whole days since Jin Ae had last been summoned anywhere. She hoped today to be another one of those days, but sadly it wasn't. She was back on her job.
She was now summoned into a busy suburb street. The traffic was buzzing and so were the people. If her memory served her right, this was Gangam. She walked around the place waiting for the soul to find her but suddenly all of this felt too familiar.
A car, A convenience store and a lady in her forties.
!
Jin Ae cursed internally. This couldn't be happening, this wasn't right. She was finally feeling comfortable with her abilities and then suddenly someone decided to drop this bomb on her. It was as if she was in a stupid video game and just had leveled up. She could now have a glance at the future events.
Quickly concentrating back on the task in hand, Jin Ae tried her best to recall her flashes but to her displeasure there wasn't any clues that would further help her. All she saw was a car , convenience store and a lady nothing more, nothing less. She was now supposed to connect the missing dots but how?
Was the lady going to get into the taxi and have an accident?
Was the taxi driver destined to die and not the lady?
What was the purpose of the convenience store in her flash?
Several thoughts popped into her head like the annoying notifications on a cell phone.
"What in the world do you want me to do!?" - Jin Ae yelled at the sky in exasperation and right at that moment the lady got into the convenience store while the taxi halted at the side. The driver kept the engine running and got out of the taxi making his way towards the convenience store, his hands hiding something beneath the shirt.
"He is going to kill her, isn't he?" - Jin Ae questioned herself before running towards the convenience store hoping to change the destiny written for the poor souls but sadly she was too late. The bullet had already passed through the lady's head. The taxi driver shot her at point blank range before running away leaving the lady to drown in her own pool of blood.
"I knew my time had come." - the lady's soul replied standing behind Jin Ae looking at her own lifeless body.
"Oh my god, you scared me!" - Jin Ae yelped at the cold contact with the soul.
"Oh I'm sorry. I didn't mean to startle you." - the lady cooed, the grace with which she spoke reminded Jin Ae of those high society women who always moved with elegance and sophistication, never committing a single error.
"Did you know him?" - Jin Ae turned to face the lady whose forehead had a small hole on it from which blood kept oozing out covering her white mid length dress, red.
"Yes" - the lady replied with a weak smile - "I was just thinking how long I had until he found me."
"Why!?" - Jin Ae questioned, baffled that the lady already knew her killer but didn't do anything about it.
"I'm the reason his 3 year old daughter is dead. I killed her and fled from the scene." - the lady explained.
"You killed his daughter?" - Jin Ae stumbled over her words, fear crept inside her at thought of standing beside a killer.
"It wasn't intentional" - the lady commented when she saw Jin Ae take a step away from her - " I had a bad fight with my husband and was driving rashly through the street when that little girl came out of no where and hit my car. I panicked at the sight of blood on the road and fled from there but her father had already noted my car plate number. He lost his daughter few days later. I tried to compensate his loss with money which was foolish of me but that was all I could do at that moment but sadly that flared him more. He put a case on me but you know, no one wins against the powerful people of the society. I had all the evidence against me deleted and just like that I won the case. Few days later I started receiving death threats and obliviously I knew it was him but I didn't do anything about it because I knew I hadn't played fair and maybe I deserved whatever was coming to me." - the lady explained her whole situation to Jin Ae who had mixed reaction on the story but decided to keep her opinion to herself.
"So tell me, what is the thing you want me to do for you?"- Jin Ae questioned, getting down to her business straight away.
"I want you to hand in all the documents and evidence I had hidden back to the man. I want him to reopen the case." - the lady confessed.
"But you do know that it's of no use now. He is probably going to prison on the charges of murdering you." - Jin Ae said with a confused expression.
"At least his sentence will get reduced if the jury gets to know his intention of murdering me." - the lady argued and surprisingly keeping aside all the bull she did, this thing did make sense.
"Alright then." - Jin Ae extended her hand to seal the deal but instead of a purple light been emitted at the contact of the two hands, there was a green light and in a split second Jin Ae was back in her room lying on the bed, her eyes wide open, wondering what just happened. She quickly examined her wrist for the symbol that used to be imprinted there after every deal but there was none.
She quickly got up from her bed in search of the lady who just died.<
