Perfect Timing
Pretending Not To LoveNo One’s POV:
Although she was a little disappointed with James’ sudden cold attitude, she still tried her best not to show it out. She thought that maybe he gave up on her because she really overdid things this time.
When she kept having these thoughts, she realized that Moon was still staying behind and that he was looking at her with a smile. “Moon, I assume you guys searched for me all night. So aren’t you tired? Would you like to drink something?” she asked while taking a glance at James' room, every now and then.
“A cup of tea would be great. But I can help myself, Joo. Why don’t you freshen up and come? I’d like to talk to you about something.” she nodded and headed to her room, while Moon went over to the kitchen to make some tea.
She walked into her room, took a quick shower, put on a clean pair of clothes and walked out of the room. “Here,” Moon handed her a carton of flavored milk while she looked up at him in surprise. “I know you don’t drink coffee or tea. So took one of these from the fridge. I thought we’d head out for breakfast. Hope it’s alright with you.”
She slowly nodded as she took the carton, “Thank you.” She told while he sipped his cup of tea.
A few minutes later, after he was done drinking, he took them to the kitchen sink and when he returned, he grabbed his jacket and asked, “So shall we go?”
“How about James?” she asked, taking a look at his door.
“He’ll take care of it on his own. It’s just the two of us today. Now let’s go on a date,” he winked and raised his elbow to her.
She let out a chuckle but went along with his teasing anyway as that took her mind off from certain things. They both went to a café and grabbed seats for them before placing their orders to the waiter.
Initially, they both just ate in silence but a moment later Moon interrupted it, “Are you feeling okay now?” she looked at him in confusion. “You told us that you drank too much last night.”
Hearing that, she started remembering James’ cold attitude and she flinched. “Moon?” she called out to him hesitatingly while he hummed in response, “Are you here now on James’ behalf?” she asked him, half-expectantly.
“Um, not exactly.” He slowly rubbed the back of his neck and her face fell in disappointment.
“So he did give up on me in the end?” she let out a fake laugh, playing with the food on her plate.
“What? What did you say? I didn’t hear you,” Moon asked while she just shook my head, then they both remained silent for a few more minutes.
They almost finished eating what they ordered when he suddenly spoke up again, “Joo Eun, about your behavior lately,”
“I’m sorry,” she cut him off.
“Joo, I know you’re missing Sooyoon so much.” She just simply stared at him. “I know what you’re thinking. ‘What does he know about missing the person you love?’ that’s what you’re thinking, aren’t you?”
“What?” she was taken aback by his statement, while he just smiled.
“True Joo Eun, I may not know that pain. But I know someone who does. His name is Kim Sooyoon. He’s suffering the same way as you, Joo. Do you think he’ll be happy with what you’ve been doing with your life?” she remained silent, “you know how he is and yet, he’s doing his best to get adjusted there coz he knows he had to finish his service without any trouble to see you on time.”
She was starting to feel guilty after hearing what he said, so she couldn’t reply him anything. “And what about James?” he continued.
Her eyes widened hearing that, “What about him?”
“Don’t you care of hurting him?”
“What do you mean? Didn’t he just ignore my presence earlier?” she mumbled.
“Lee Joo Eun,” he sighed, “do you really believe James is capable of ignoring you when you’re hell bent on ruining your life?” she just stared at him blankly, “You fool! He’s starting to worry if he had done the right thing by letting you get back with Sooyoon.”
Her eyes widened hearing that, “He was maintaining silence earlier because he was scared his involvement would only feed your craziness and also I offered to talk to you on his behalf. I mean I was worried about you too. Even when you broke up with Sooyoon, you took it pretty well. Then why are you like this now when you’ve finally got back together? Anyway, I just want you to think things through.”
The two didn’t talk much after that since she was lost in her own world. After paying the check, Moon dropped her back at her place before taking leave.
Joo Eun sat down in her room and thought hard. Everything that Moon had said to her earlier, kept circling in her head. She knew he was absolutely right. She thought of Sooyoon and slowly started to feel ashamed of her own behavior.
She remembered James and looked out for him but he wasn’t in his room. So she thought he might have gone out. She went back to her room and rummaged through the books to find the brochures and stuffs James had given her before.
She sat down and read through them. She was surprised to see how most of the courses the brochures were from, were actually ones that she was interested in. but as she read through them, she realized that most of those courses’ application deadline has already passed.
She let out a sigh in disappointment and started going through the rest of the courses which still had time for the deadline. She picked the ones she liked among those and downloaded the application forms.
Her stomach started to rumble and so she looked at the clock, only to realize it had gotten late for dinner. She decided to fill the forms after dinner, so she placed them on the table neatly and went to make the dinner.
The house was still too quiet. She wondered if James was back yet as she made her way to the kitchen. However, there were already dinner prepared with a note attached to them. The note read, ‘I’ll be away for a week. Left you some dinner
