A Mess
Pretending Not To LoveNo One’s POV:
As they all stood in front of the military training camp, Joo Eun was struggling to hold back her emotions but she did her best until the very last moment Sooyoon walked into the gate.
She bid farewell to Sooyoon’s family before rushing off towards the parking lot, not minding if James and Moon were following behind or not, while hot tears streamed down her cheeks.
Meanwhile, James and Moon quickly excused themselves and followed her closely behind. James unlocked the car before Joo Eun reached the car. They saw her climb into the back door before breaking down, sobbing like a child.
Feeling concerned, Moon tried to get to her, however, James stopped him, “Let her be. This is hard for her than we could imagine. Letting out her emotions might actually help me. You won’t mind waiting here for some time now, will you?” he shook his head and so, they both waited outside the car for a few more minutes until she calmed down a little.
They saw her wipe away her tears with some tissues and wasn’t crying anymore. So they both got into the car a little later and they acted like they weren’t aware of her break down just a moment ago. They both carried on some work related conversations as James drove them.
James dropped Moon in front of his house before he drove to his home. The siblings rode up the elevator silently and once they got into their home, Joo Eun simply marched into her room and locked herself in.
Initially, James decided to let her be. But she kept herself locked in even after hours later. He tried getting her out of her room when it was time to eat but she stayed stubborn as hell.
When it was almost close to midnight, James knocked on her door, “Joo Eun-ah, I understand you’re in pain. But you should eat too.” But there was no response. He sighed, “I’m leaving something out in front of your door. At least eat a little.”
He left a plate of food in front of her door, before going to sleep in his room. But when he came out the next morning, the plate was left untouched. “Joo, are you awake?” he gently knocked on her door but there was still no response.
He looked at the clock and noticed that he didn’t have much time left to get to work. He sighed and left a new plate with breakfast and a note at her doorstep, before leaving to work.
But when she didn’t answer any of his calls until afternoon, he started to get worried. But he had a ton load of work to be completed by the end of the day, that he couldn’t take an off and rush home.
He even thought of relieving Mijin from her work and send her to his home but even that seemed to be difficult. So having left with no choice, he dialed Jiwoong’s number and requested him to check on Joo Eun.
Jiwoong rushed over to Joo Eun’s place as soon as he could and rang the bell. However, no one answered. He alternated with calling her, leaving a voice message and ringing the bell again for a few more hours.
Even though he saw that she has read all his messages, she still didn’t respond to any of his methods. Finally giving up, he called James and informed him about his failure, “I’m sorry I tried everything James, but she still isn’t responding.” He sighed.
Since she was reading all her friend’s messages, James thought he’d let her be for the day, “It’s okay. Thanks for trying, Jiwoong. You can leave now. I’ll be home in a few hours.”
When he returned home later that evening, he noticed that she had eaten something during the day, even though it was more like a mouse’s ration. But yet, he still decided to take it as an improvement and let be. And this went on for a few more days.
One day, when James came home during the office hours to take the files that he had forgotten to bring along in the morning, he found her unconscious on the living room floor. He immediately rushed her to the nearby hospital and got her admitted.
The doctor who examined her, informed him that she was anemic and dehydrated, so the body ended up shutting down as it couldn’t take any more of the stress. He has put her on IV and prescribed some medicine and advised him to keep her in the hospital until they run a few more tests.
The next few days, Joo Eun spent in the hospital with Jiwoong taking care of her in the daytime while James took care of her the rest of the day. The day she got discharged, although she has lost a few pounds, she still looked a lot better than she did a few days ago.
Her attitude took a sudden change too and she started hanging out more with Jiwoong and Mijin, and this change in her in turn made James’ worries lessen. But little did he know that she turned as if she had multiple personality.
She either partied like crazy or sat down and wrote bunch of letters addressed to Sooyoon’s training unit. Even though she started showing up home pretty drunk, James still tried tolerating it. He tried to change her ways with options like doing things she really wanted or even go abroad and stay with their parents for a change.
He searched high and low and brought her brochures and booklets of courses she might possibly be interested in, so she could utilize her time waiting for Sooyoon more productively but she remained unshakeable.
One such drunk day after partying so much, Jiwoong and Mijin dropped her in front of her apartment building. “Are you sure you can manage to get your apartment?” Jiw
