Drunk Confession?
Pretending Not To LoveNo One’s POV:
When Joo Eun was at her workplace, she was surprised to find Jiwoong there with her senior coworker. But when asked for the reason, neither of them really said anything. Even though she wasn’t convinced with the reason Jiwoong gave her, she still let it slide as she had to take care of the customers.
After a few hours, a group of people walked in, “Welcome,” Joo Eun bowed to them but as she looked up, her eyes widened upon falling on one particular guest. She quickly composed herself and led them to an empty table.
She handed them the menu cards as calm as she could before she made her way back to the bar counter. “June sunbae,” she called out to him, “could you serve that table? Pretty please?”
“Why? What’s wrong?” he asked concernedly.
She looked at him and then at the table and then back at him, but she said nothing. June looked at the table she was supposed to serve but nothing seemed unusual.
They were a small group of people, mostly girls with a few boys and they looked like they were students. “Are they from your college?” June asked.
“Looks like it,” Jiwoong answered instead.
“Are they your bullies or something?” June was really worried at the way she was reacting.
“I don’t think that’s the issue,” Jiwoong let out a chuckle.
“Do you know something about this?” June looked at Jiwoong now.
“It’s a long story. The guy she likes is at that table.” Jiwoong rolled his eyes dramatically while Joo Eun signaled him to shut up.
June glanced at the group of people and found one of the guys repeatedly glancing in Joo Eun’s direction. “I think I know who it is,” June smiled widely. “Not a bad taste, dear.” He complimented Joo Eun to which the girl blushed furiously.
“It’s nothing like that, sunbae.” She started denying but her face spoke otherwise.
Suddenly someone from the table called for the waiter and June quickly stood up on his feet, “You owe me big for this,” he said before rushing towards the table.
While June was taking the orders from the table, Joo Eun just stood by the bar counter and stared at Sooyoon. “You are going to bore a hole in his head,” Jiwoong said from the other side of the counter while she just stuck out her tongue at him. “Why didn’t take the order yourself? You could have kept staring at him up close.”
She let out a sigh upon hearing that, “I’m not confident in myself. I’m afraid that I might blurt out something in the moment which might let the others know that we both knew each other.”
As time passed by, the restaurant slowly got empty, except for Sooyoon and his friends. “Why aren’t we having any more customers today?” Joo Eun wondered out loud.
“They have booked the entire restaurant for the rest of the night.” June replied. “Joo Eun-ah, you know Mr. Kim over there, don’t you? Then why are you not talking to him?”
“It’s a long story hyung. Don’t ask her.” Jiwoong shook his head. “I wonder what these girls see in him.” He let out a dramatic sigh.
“I wonder the same too. Pretty much every women in this room have their eyes on him. Even my staffs too.” June shook his head, looking around his restaurant. “I thought this one would be different but see,” he flicked Joo Eun’s forehead and clucked.
“She’s slightly different, hyung.” Jiwoong said while June looked at him with a raised eyebrow, “Unlike your other employees, she didn’t fall head over heels for him at first sight. They both met in a casual situation and they became friends eventually. She had her eyes on someone else then.” He just finish saying when he got hit on the head, “Ouch! Lee Joo Eun!” he whined, rubbing the spot.
“That’s interesting. Then there must be something. Now I’m more curious,” June said, looking excited.
“Sunbae,” she whined, pleading him to give up on the topic.
As time passed by, the group was slowly started to get drunk and one of the girls was having more physical contact with Sooyoon than necessary. ‘Don’t they both good together?’ Joo Eun heard one of the staff whisper beside them while the other nudged her.
“Shhh unnie! She can hear you,” the other one said, nodding towards Joo Eun.
“So what? It’s not like he’s her boyfriend. She’s the one having one-sided feelings. Look, he’s not even glancing in her direction.” The first girl said.
Joo Eun acted like she didn’t hear the talk while Jiwoong got on the defense, “Are you sure? Because as far as I know Kim Sooyoon is the one –” but before he could finish, she leaned over the counter and covered his mouth.
“Jiwoong-ah, please,” she shook her head, half of her body lying on top of the counter while signaling him not to tell more.
“What’s going on here?” June asked with a teasing grin as he came back after doing some bar tricks.
Joo Eun looked at the position she was in and quickly dropped down to her feet. “Um, I was just shutting his mouth, sunbae.” She said while still holding onto Jiwoong’s hand tightly.
Sometime later, she noticed that Sooyoon was not in his seat anymore and so was the girl. She briefly glanced around the restaurant but caught no sight of him. ‘Did he already make his way home?’ she wondered as she helped June with the drinks while Jiwoong has left a while ago after receiving a phone call.
“Joo Eun-ah, could you go to the store room and get me these drinks?” June asked as he handed over the keys to her.
She nodded and took the keys before making her way towards the store room in the cellar. She walked down the stairs, humming a soft tune to herself when she came to an abrupt halt.
There in the corridor, stood Sooyoon along with the girl from earlier. At first they seemed to be just talking but soon, the girl started holding him by his hand and the distance between them eventually reduced.
