What was that?

What had just happened? Had he actually confessed to me? No, he must have been joking. He wasn't that serious of a person. But, he had looked very serious earlier. Of course, he could become serious sometimes. Ugh, I couldn't even differentiate whether he was joking or he was serious. No, no. He was my childhood friend. He would never look at me as a girl. It surely had been a joke.

"Taehyung, stop joking." I tried to pretend like nothing had happened while finishing my last bite on my toast. Although I was sure that my cheeks were as red as cherry right now.

"I'm not joking," he replied in ease. "It'll be better that way, isn't it?"

Huh?

That sentence puzzled me. "What do you mean?"

"I mean," he started his explanation, "we're really close to each other and we transfer together. Don't you think it'll be better if we pretend as lovers? That way our cover won't get blown easily, right?"

Crap! I misunderstood him! That's so embarrassing!

"Oh." I was speechless. If I could, I would dig a hole and hide myself down there.

Taehyung bursted out laughing. "Did you think I confessed for real?"

"I'll bring your coffee." I made an excuse to get away from him. But, going to the kitchen and getting our coffee didn't stop me from feeling humiliated. I purposely stayed behind the kitchen counter longer to hide myself from him.

"Sorry, but I did make it seem real to tease you," Taehyung said after a few minutes of silence. "Because I love to see you blush."

What did he mean with that? Why does he love to see me blush?

"So," he continued, "just come out here. I need my coffee."

Again. He just teased me again. I was amazed at myself. How could I live ten years with him while withstanding those teasings? I had no idea.

I erased my thoughts about his confusing words for now and proceeded with the coffee. "Here it is, Your Highness. Your favorite vanilla latte."

"Thanks!" Taehyung ignored my sarcasm and sipped his beloved vanilla latte. "Wow! I have to admit. You may be a bad cook, but you're a perfect barista."

After getting humiliated that badly, I had a hard time to believe his compliment. "Let's just hurry up and get going. We're late."

"Class 12-A Science, there are two new students who will join us starting from today." The teacher faced us, who were standing in front of the class. "Come on, introduce yourselves."

As soon as we entered the classroom, the girls were looking at Taehyung with that eyes. The eyes which showed how much they wanted him to be theirs. I hated to admit, but he was a handsome boy. We practically had been living under the same roof for ten years so I didn't realize it was a big deal. I felt proud and uneasy at the same time. That wouldn't trouble us in our mission, wouldn't it?

Baekhyun wasn't here. I scanned all over the room for him, but I couldn't find him anywhere in the classroom. Were we separated from him? Was he in another class? No, I was sure that the paper had told us we would be in the same class. He must have been late.

I stepped forward, all eyes on me. "My name is Lee Hyerin. I'm a transfer student from New York, America. I hope we'll be getting along well." I ended it with a bow.

"I'm Kim Taehyung. Also from New York, America. Nice to meet you, guys." Taehyung also bowed.

After we introduced ourselves, we hung our coats on the coat hooks by the wall, hoping the gun bulge wouldn't show and our uniforms would hide them well. We took the empty seats near the right side wall, next to each other. The whole class was staring at us. They were whispering. I could hear a bit of their conversation. It's mainly about our relationship and the reason why we're transferring now, when the school year almost ended.

Obviously, it's because our purpose wasn't for studying. But, of course we couldn't tell our real reason. We had to lie. There's no other way. We had to tell them the lie that we had agreed on earlier. Even so, I couldn't stop myself from feeling bad for them. No one would like to get tricked. This was my first experience as an undercover police detective. And I got mixed feelings because of it.

Byun High, a high school owned by Byun Group, was an elite high school only for privileged wealthy students. Most of them were sons and daughters from rich families. The school was especially made for the heirs of many big companies in Seoul. The facilities were top-notch, the school building was grand, the teachers were highly skilled, the quality of the education was second to none, and the furnitures were luxurious.
