Life of a Wallflower

The teacher standing in front of the class slammed her books down on the table, making the students who were unaware of her presence jumped and yelped. She pushed her glasses up her nose bridge, glaring at the whole class. All the students sat up straight, and some who were previously standing away from their seats to chat and play around hastily made their way to their seats, afraid of the teacher's wrath. By looking at her expressions and the stack of papers on the table, Joohee can tell that they were getting back their marked papers and Mrs. Yoo was not impressed with their scores.

"I received the average score of this class and I am completely disappointed! The class' rank dropped to number 4 from number 1! I expected better from all of you," She yelled. The students flinched every time her voice raised a bit too high, but still hung their heads down, avoiding any eye-contact with the fuming homeroom teacher. Said teacher, straighten up and brushed off imaginary dusts from her blazer, clearing , trying to gain her cool back. "When I call your name, come up here and take your paper." She commanded, leaning her hips against the teacher's desk behind her.

She started calling out names one by one then, sending death glares that could kill to some people who failed their tests, shaking her head in disappointment to some other people who didn't reach her expectations and sighing in defeat to few who never tried to raise their grades since their senior year started. When Mina and Soyeon got called up in front, they both got the same reaction from the teacher, a shook of a head in disappointment since they did so much better in previous exams.

"Bae Joohee," The girl gulped, standing quickly from her seat, making her way in front and prayed to god for some miracle to happen. She dipped her had down to avoid locking eyes while being scolded but the weird thing was, the scolding never came so she forced herself to look up at the teacher. Mrs Yoo was smiling, though a little bit half-heartedly when she handed the girl her paper. Joohee scanned through the paper and sighed in relief before discreetly grinning to herself. She managed to obtain straight A's except for two subjects which she got B instead but it's still gratifying. Her effort of studying her off before the exams finally paid off and she couldn't be happier.

There a few more of her classmates that managed to score as well as her and they shared secret smiles to each other, silently congratulating the others. Mina and Soyeon gave her thumbs up and mouthed "You did great!" The girl replied with a grin before turning back to focus on what the teacher was about to say.

"I want all of you to do better for the finals and I don't care how or when but you have to study hard! The school has a reputation to uphold and I don't want the seniors this year to ruin it, so please." All the students nodded, eyes still avoiding the teacher's. In case you're wondering why they keep avoiding eye-contact with the teacher, Mrs Yoo once yelled at the top of her lungs out of the blue at a boy who didn't look down, saying how the boy was rude and didn't feel guilty after doing something wrong. The lesson here was, never lock eyes with Mrs Yoo when she's angry.

Her nagging went on for such long time that the school bell rung, indicating the end of the last period of the day. With a heavy sigh, she dismissed the class, not forgetting to warn the students about the finals and how they should take it seriously. Even though her nagging was really mentally and physically exhausting to hear, all of what she said was actually true, they should take their studies seriously since they will need good grades to apply for any college or university after they graduated high school, especially for those who would need scholarship.

"Joohee, please tutor us. We'll buy you banana milk and your favourite mocha bread every day." As soon as they got out of the class, Mina begged the girl for her to tutor them both. Soyeon clung to shorter girl's arm, pouting and agreeing with what Mina was saying. Joohee pretended to think about the bribery, humming while pursing her lips, and she mentally laughed when her two best friends looked at her with so much hopes in their expressions. What makes them think she wouldn't agree? Of course, she would, what are friends for?

"Alright but remember to always buy me the milk and bread every day. I don't want to eat the cafeteria food, I don't know how you guys could even eat those stuffs they prepared." The girls visibly brightened when she agreed, engulfing her in a tight hug and Joohee couldn't help but laugh, hugging her friends back.

(´・_・`)

"Hey Joohee, remember how you promised to tutor us last Friday?" Mina was tapping her fingers on the table, a habit she does when she's hesitant or nervous and Joohee tried to act nonchalant. "Yup. Why? Do you guys want to start tomorrow?" Soyeon smiled and nodded, but then her smile turned hesitant too, playing with the tip of her hair like a shy school girl about to confess. "That would be great but…. would you mind if we bring Wonwoo and Mingyu along? They could use some tutoring too, and we will buy you pizza!" There they go again with bribing her to do something. Tutoring four people, and not to mention, two unofficial couples? Would that be a good idea, Joohee had no clue but oh well, tutoring another two won't hurt; she already knew Wonwoo and Mingyu anyway.

"Sure, and I want extra cheese on my pizza." Joohee shrugged. Her friends gasped and grinned, leaning in close to her. "Really? Wow, you actually agreed, oh my god," Soyeon said, looking at the girl with amazement. "We were scared you will decline, because that what you would usually do before! You were kind of afraid of talking to guys," Mina too, was looking at her in amazement like she had grown a golden hair overnight. They were right though, remembering her old self, she would have said no right away and tries to escape from her two friends begging and whining. It amazed her too, about how much she changed in this past month.

"Okay okay I get it. So, tutoring starts tomorrow after school but where should we go?" Joohee asked. She could invite them to her house but she didn't really like having people over her home, her safe place. "Oh don't worry about that. We'll discuss it with Mingyu and Wonwoo, and then I'll text you where it will be, alright?" Soyeon said while already taking out her phone from her pocket, tapping away a text, probably for Mingyu.

The day went on normally. Joohee didn't see any purple blob of hair anywhere, and that kind of disappointed her a little bit. She had mentally prepared sentences in her head so she could talk easily with Jihoon, to ask about their usual composing meetings. But she didn't bump into him anywhere today so maybe she should just send a text to the boy instead. Taking out her phone, Joohee typed her message, pausing for a moment, and then went typing again before tapping send.

Jihoon-ah! Are you busy? When can you help me again with the song?

The girl waited patiently for his reply, laying the phone on the table in front of her, and continued with her homework that she brought out earlier. After a few minutes, her phone vibrated, receiving a new message. It was Jihoon.

I will be quite busy this weekdays soooo, let's meet up on Saturday at the same place? Is it okay with you?

Joohee quickly replied with an "OK, see you on Saturday!" She set down her phone again and started working on her fourth mathematics question; she doesn't like to procrastinate on doing her homework, and she wasn't about to do it today. The temptation of leaving her homework there and text with Jihoon was strong, but she didn't waver. Her mind had set on finishing her homework early so she could enjoy free time later without any worries about due dates.

But then her phone vibrated again after an hour, interrupting her focus. The girl grunted and squinted her eyes at her phone to see who sent the text. Mina sent the text so Joohee instantly opened up the message. Mina was saying that they had discussed with Mingyu and Wonwoo and how they had decided to choose Seventeen's practice room to study in. Out of all places, they chose a practice room and Joohee sighed, typing a reluctant agreement before picking up her pencil and putting down her phone, continuing with her homework diligently.

"Mina, Mingyu and Wonwoo are waiting at the gate, let's go!" Soyeon grabbed Joohee's arm, dragging her across the hallway out of the school. When Joohee saw her best friends' unofficial boyfriends, she waved and flashed a polite smile, getting the same responses from the two of them. "Now, shall we?" Wonwoo raised an eyebrow, gesturing to the opened busy street.

They walked together to the practice room, Mina and Soyeon making sure Joohee won't feel like a fifth wheel by walking on her sides, letting the girl be in the middle while linking arms. "You've been to the practice room a lot of times, right? What does it looks like?" The blonde girl asked. Joohee smiled and shrugged. "You will see,"

Few more minutes walking brought them to the all-too-familiar building. The boys didn't hesitate to stroll into the building, holding the glass door for the ladies to come in, being the gentlemen they are. The girls muttered a small thanks and Joohee led her friends up the stairs to Seventeen's very own practice room. Her best friends stared in awe as she punched in the code easily to unlock the door, looking like she had been spending her whole life here.

Joohee waited for the two boys to make their entrance first before ushering her best friends in, being the last one to go in. Mingyu dragged a folded long table that was resting against the wall and pulled it opened, placing it in the middle of the room. The other boy positioned five folding chairs around the table, and nodded in satisfaction. So that's where they will be sitting at to study and Joohee hummed in approval; she had thought they would be studying on the floor or something.

"So that's how you'll get the answer, understand?" The tutor in the group asked, raising an eyebrow once she finished explaining a mathematics question. Her students' mouths formed an 'O' so Joohee assumed they understood what she just explained. "Try solving question number 4, the formula used is similar." They nodded, and immediately tried to solve the questions, every each of them worked hard on studying since two hours ago and Joohee felt like a proud teacher. There was no trouble in teaching because it was quite easy to make them understand since they caught up pretty fast.

The tutor stretched her aching back, limbs and neck then leaned against the back rest, observing the others while they work. She just noticed it, how Mingyu would sneak a peek at Mina's paper for confirmation to see if he was doing his right and to compare them. Meanwhile, Soyeon leaned closer to her not-boyfriend to explain again the part he didn't quite catch. It's safe to say that Joohee was jealous; they looked so perfect together. Oh how she wished Jihoon was here, it'll make her feel less lonely.

"Oh? You're all studying here?"

Did her wish just came true in a matter of seconds? Apparently, yes it did because Jihoon was there at the door, standing in mild surprise. But there were other Seventeen boys behind him, and they seemed to be holding stack of books in their hands. Mingyu chirped a "Yup! Joohee's teaching us'" from his seat, then proudly showed the almost full of writing paper he had, proving he was working diligently in his studies.

"What a coincidence! We're here to study too, and Jihoon is going to teach us," That was Soonyoung talking, patting Jihoon on the head while he said that. And did he just say Jihoon will be teaching? Oh perfect. Now she found out that aside from being multi-talented, Jihoon is brilliant and smart too.

"Oh let's study together then! The more the merrier. Jihoon and Joohee can be our teachers," Soyeon excitedly stood up, hands on table. "Yeah we should do that, go on, take the other table there but we didn't have enough chairs…" Wonwoo pointed at the available folded table resting against the wall. "Don't worry about that, we can borrow chairs from the room downstairs, they have many, I've seen them," Seungcheol said as he made his way out of the practice room, to get the chairs probably.

Joohee who was sitting in her chair silently looked up and almost instantly locked eyes with the lilac-haired boy. He flashed his kitty smile that she adored, so she replied with a bigger smile.
