The boyish smile, the deep set eyes, the clean shaven face...The feeling all too familiar.
Damn Im Ji Hoon, back at it again with the coffee invites.
Many times, Ah Reum attempted forgetting her too-good-to-be-true boss, but every memory of him hit a vital part in her heart. Many times, she conditioned herself not to think about the silent rejection she got from Ji Hoon, roughly four months ago.
Daaaaamn Im Ji Hoon, back at it again with the feels.
"Sooo coffee?" Ji Hoon asked again.
Ah Reum instinctively glanced at her black Skagen wristwatch. She was running late for her much-awaited appointment with Park Chanyeol.
Her breath hitched. It was high time for her to clarify things with Ji Hoon, so...
"Coffee sounds good."
The amount of courage she invested in texting Chanyeol about their canceled "meeting" was impressive. Initially, Ah Reum thought of lying, but it scared her- the thought of Chanyeol discovering her dishonesty.
Ah Reum knew, for sure, that fear was supposed to be the last thing she should feel towards Chanyeol, but something about the towering EXO rapper made her toes curl. It could be the possibility of Chanyeol punishing her in the most sensual ways, and that, she was not ready for. A little voice within her wanted to explore that side of sensuality, but not yet. She might not handle the paradox of pleasure enveloped in pain.
It was a lucky day for her though. Chanyeol did not seem to mind the cancellation of tonight's plans. He seemed pretty chill with his reply,
"No problem, m'lady. You and Loverboy Ji Hoon need that talk."
A sigh of relief escaped through her as she took a sip of the double Americano she ordered and paid for.
"I don't understand why you won't let me pay though." Ji Hoon remarked, pulling a seat in front of Ah Reum. He shot her a teasing look before taking a swig of his drip coffee.
"It is the twenty first century. Men do not need to pay for women. No offense meant, but women are capable of sustaining themselves." Her smart reply.
And then Ji Hoon's face grew from playful to serious. "Ah Reum, my sincere apologies." He deliberately traced the outline of his white coffee mug before deciding to speak again.
"It was wrong of me to say a plain thank you after your love confession to me. I have to admit, I avoided you because I simply didn't know how to respond. Any guy would be lucky to have you, but, uhm, I can't be that guy. Work is what I live for. But, you never know, if we're fated, then maybe one day, we can be. Right now though, uhm, I'm afraid not." He explained whole-heartedly.
Ah Reum nodded. She appreciated the man's honesty, and she understood that crying won't do her any good. With no urge to cry from the actual rejection, she softly smiled.
The heartbreak was real for her, but it was not enough to crush her. The world did not revolve around her. It was only logical that not everything she wanted would magically fall on her lap. There were many things to be grateful for. Her elegant high-rise apartment, sleek black car, high-pay
