“So why are we here again?” Jessica sings out, opening her bottle of mineral water while Sooyoung reaches over me to steal the roll-off Jessica’s tray.
“Isn’t it obvious? Because Tiff misses me.” Sooyoung grin.
“That’s my roll Sooyoung’ why are you eating mine when this is your damn coffee shop?” Jessica interject.
“Why so whiny’ I’ll get some for you’ it’s on the house since it’s been a while since you visit me,” Sooyoung commented.
“Sorry Sooyoung ah, been just busy at school,” I replied.
“Don’t worry, I understand,” Sooyoung wink. “So, according to Jessie’s tone and question, why do I have a feeling that you didn’t come here to visit me? Is there something else? A date perhaps?” she teased.
“Please, not that,” Jessica said annoyed.
I sigh. “It’s not a date Jessie, you can breath now,--
“Then what’s you’ve been up to? Spiiiill..” Jessica ask.
“Or don’t,” Sooyoung tells me, glaring over at Jess, “because it’s none of our business.”
Jessica rolls her eyes. “Honestly, Sooyoung, don’t be such an old lady. Tiffany is our friend, and we support her happiness, which means we need to learn all about it. So. Spill.”
Blushing, I roll my shoulders and continue pushing beans around my plate. “There’s not much to spill, this is just a friendly lunch,” I say, and Jessica heaves out a huge sigh, ruffling her hair.
“Not much to spill? Friendly lunch? I feel like I’m third-wheeling—”
“You’re not, and you know that.”
“Oh my God!! So you’re dating someone now Tiff? Since when? Why I didn’t know about this?,” Sooyoung goes on like I didn’t even say anything, fluttering one hand by her face, and I’m surprised by how much hearing those words feels like a punch to the gut.
“No,” I say, shaking my head. “That’s not what—”
“That’s absolutely what’s it looks like,” Jessica argues, and even Sooyoung nods, full of bread.
“It really is, Tiff,” she says, and I look back and forth between them.
“It’s just lunch, between friends,” I say in a low voice. “And ..she will also bring her friends. So, this is not like what you think..this is not a date.”
Jessica wrinkles her nose a little. “You look disappointed,” she says. “Should we go and leave you two alone then?.”
I see Taeyeon walk into the door then, and there’s that silly little trip in my chest at just seeing her.
Jessica follows my gaze, then scoff. “Ugh, speaking of the midget, I knew it,” she sighs, and I shove her a little.
“Behave Jess.”
“Ooohh is she the smallest one?” Sooyoung asks. “I think she’s really Tiffany’s type. What a gorgeous piece of art.”
“There’s something wrong with your taste then, Sooyoung,” Jessica says.
“I have a very high standard excuse me.” She grins at her, and I suddenly realize I’m not the only smitten kitten at this table.
But then Jessica shifts in her chair, picking up her fork and adding, “I’ll behave, but don’t expect me to join the conversation.” She commented.
“I could tell Jessie is not fond of them,” Sooyoung lowers her voice.
“She’ll come to love them too once she knew them better.” I respond.
Taeyeon and her friends came to our table.
“Uhm..I think we should transfer to a bigger table so we can all fit in.” Sooyoung suggests.
Sitting on my right is Jessica and Taeyeon also sit beside me on my left, I signaled for Sooyoung and others to make themselves comfortable on the nearby chairs. This was it. The moment of truth. “Uhm..So..—Taeyeon this is Sooyoung and well, you know her already..Jessica. They’re my friends.”
“Hi Sooyoung, I'm Taeyeon. Nice to meet you. Uhmm..Hi Jessica, I hope it’s okay to call you Jessica.” Taeyeon said.
Jessica just shrugs her shoulder. I sigh.
“Tiffany these are my friends..Yuri and Hyoyeon.” She introduces.
“Hey, guys.” Her friends greeted.
There was a moment of pure silence.
Sooyoung claps her hands. “Oh what a great day to meet new friends. So, tell us Taeyeon, are you interested in Tiff?.”
Jessica elbowed Sooyoung.
“Ouch! What the—
I facepalm.
“Sooyoung how did I become friends with you again?” I mumble.
She chuckles. “Because I’m the one who spices up both your lives. If I wasn’t here, you’d be bored as hell.”
