Because Your Love Is Like The Wind
We then left the coffee shop, walking side by side towards his car parked at the other side of the road.
“By the way, when am I gonna meet girlfriend?”
He chocked at the question and replied playfully, “arasso omma, when the time comes, I will introduce you two.”
“Yah! I’m not your mum pea brain but remember your promise that you would always let me filter the girls you date?”
“And I will beat the crap out of any guy trying to date my Sophie” he said as he wrapped his manly arm around my shoulder.
His gesture and the way he called me his Sophie made my heart skip a beat and I grinned sheepishly.
In the car, we sat quietly driving to god knows where as he told me it was a surprise when the dj on the radio played Gym Class
Heroes ‘ Back Home’. His face glowed with excitement as he increased the volume.
“It’s our jam! What a coincidence! It’s been a while since I listened to this song!” he said as he reached to ruffle my hair that was
in the passenger’s seat next to him.
I remained quiet listening to the song as I reminisced in past memories. Slowly guilt consumed me. I regretted that once I reached
London I avoided him. I never replied his text messages nor did I ever pick up his calls. I tried to rid of those feelings I had for
him. I was sure it was some kind of monkey love. We were young and girls tend to fall in love very quickly. I realized it was cruel of
me to avoid him and I was sure he hated me for it but here I am in his car like nothing ever happened.
My train of thoughts was disrupted and he said “You’ve changed Sophie. Not in a bad way I mean”
“I did? Elaborate further Mr Know Me So Much?”
“Ouch, I detect sarcasm” he said as he clutched his heart and laughed heartily
“What I meant was, I never thought I’d see the day when my Sophie would be wearing sophisticated womeny kinda clothes, heels
and makeup. I’ve always imagined you getting married in sneakers, jeans and plaid shirts.” He said as he chuckled.
“Yah! Choi Seunghyun! You wanna die now?” I said as I hit his arms only to hurt my own palm.
“Ouh Ouh..my hand hurts…Sobs Sobs” I said while faking my pain.
“Pfft, drama queen as always. That’s something that won’t change. You being the ultimate drama queen”
“Tsk, not even a lil consideration. Evil Hyunnie!” I said while pouting.
He then pinched my cheeks and said “Aww, Sophie’s gonna cry. That’s cute. Mianhe Sophie.”
Flashback
It was 2009 and I just got home from school as I said my goodbye to Seunghyun whose house was a few blocks further than
mine I saw a white envelop inside the mailbox. I took the letter and my hands trembled in nervousness as I saw that it was
addressed to me. This letter would only be the reply I was waiting. Will I be offered a seat to the University of my dream or will I
be rejected. I ran out of our house gate to catch up to Seunghyun only to find that he was holding a similar white envelop. He was
as nervous as I was but he just encouraged me and held on to my shoulders to support. I read the letter carefully and tears of
joy ran down my cheeks as I finish reading it. I got accepted to a university to further my studies. He however got offered to a
different university. Seunghyun hugged me so tightly and congratulated me. It was then that I realized that I would be leaving
without my bestfriend.
“Sophie, it will be fine. I’ll be right here waiting for you until you come back. Plus we have instagram, whatsapp, facetime, line,
facebook and all those crap just name it. When you feel down call me, I’ll listen no matter what time of the day it is,arasso?”
“arasso, but whats gonna happen to Seunghyun and Sophie against the world?”
“Best, it always has been and always will be Seunghyun and Sophie against the world. This is just a little detour” he said as he
ruffled my hair.
