CHAPTER 10:

MONDAY:

The cold breeze penetrated on Baekhyun’s pale skin as the coldness awoke him. He looked at the direction of the intruder of his slumber and closed the window that was slightly ajar and laid back on his bed. It was too cold than usual this morning, Baekhyun thought if there was a snow since the winter season was about to start but there’s none. He was already covered by his chunky blankets but it was still chilly that he could barely move.

Maybe he could break this freeze out if he falls asleep again. So he did.

But when his phone snoozed, indicating that he had to prep for school two hours ago, he can’t still move a bit. He just felt colder albeit he was sweating bullets. He dug up for a thermometer in the cabinet beside his bed and helped himself to put it on his under tongue. It read 38.5 degrees Celsius.

His first class would definitely start in few minutes. His phone rang, the caller’s ID said it was his bestfriend.

“Baek? Where are you? Aren’t you going to school?” Yixing retorted.

“Xing. I’m sick. Would you please do me a favor?”

“You’re sick?” The older whimpered. He was shocked because his bestfriend rarely got sick and when he had, he was sure that it wasn’t just a simple fever. “What Baek, do you need me there? I’ll go now.” Yixing was about to stand and pack his things up when his bestfriend butted in.

“No-no! Xing, we have classes. Better stay there. I’m not that sick.”

The older calmed down. “Are you sure?”                                                                                             

“Yes. Just please tell our teachers the reason for my absence”

“Off course I will. Did you take medicine? Stay in bed okay? I’ll be there right after the class.”

“No need Xing. I can handle this. I already called a doctor, he’ll be here in minutes. Besides, you have to review with Joonmyeon after class. Don’t be sappy.”

It took awhile before Yixing answered back. “Ah. Ok I have an idea. Bye Baek! Rest well!”

“Wa-wait Xing! One more thing…” But the line was already cut just before the genius claimed. “Aish~”

Baekhyun literally facepalmed. His bestfriend was sure uncanny some of the times. He was overreacting as always when Baekhyun was sick. But the genius swore that Yixing was a thoughtful and caring bestfriend and he was so thankful for it. They were actually like brothers.

He was snapped away from his thoughts when his doorbell chimed. He sauntered downstairs and hailed his visitor in.

The doctor he called for finally arrived. They turned back to his room and the professional started checking him up. He was irritated to be honest. He was not used to the apparatuses the doctor was using. Stethoscope to check his breathing, thermometer to recheck his temperature and some beams that was pointing to his eyes and tongue. He even checked his blood pressure. Then some questions to be answered that just made him feel worse. But he had to. The doctor ended up with a conclusion that it wasn’t a severe fever and that he was just stressed. If he would just take a rest and take the medication he gave after he eats, he would get well soon.

He thanked the doctor as he exited his room. He shortly closed his eyes and granted the doctor’s advice. He should take rest.

The whole school hours Yixing couldn’t help but be worried with his bestfriend. When their last period had done, he hastily grabbed Joonmyeon and Chanyeol as he sprinted to the bus station. He sure looked bothered but the other two opted not to ask a thing.

“Yixing?” The giant butted in at the gluttonous silence.

The Chinese guy was broke from his thoughts and faced Chanyeol who was sitting at his right side. “Ah, Chanyeol can you do me a favor?”

The time had passed so rapid in Baekhyun’s dreamland. He woke up by his rumbling tummy and paced to the kitchen to have some ramen. He scooped up a generous helping of the noodles with the chopsticks and aimed it for his mouth when his doorbell clanged for the second time this day.

He sauntered towards the door and opened it. He saw his bestfriend who was grinning faintly. And Joonmyeon was at his back.

“Oh Xing. I told you not to go here uh.” The younger jabbered.

“So that’s how you welcome me after I fretted about your health.” He frowned. Joonmyeon chuckled at the two.

“Aish~ Come in. I’m so sorry for you Joonmyeon, my cheeky bestfriend baited you. I’m sure you have regrets now.” The genius punned as he paced towards the kitchen. Yixing and his giggling partner trailed him.

“Any drinks you want? Or you want ramen?” Baekhyun asked grinning.

“Just sit there okay? I’ll help myself and Joonmyeon.” Yixing snapped as he got some juice from the fridge and sat beside his partner and opposite to his bestfriend who was eating his left ramen.

“Did you consult a doctor Baek? You look seriously pale.” Joonmyeon posed to Baekhyun as the latter nodded. “And?”

“He said I’m just stressed and I just need to rest.” He replied with an unclear voice before he sipped his noodles.

“You needed a nurse Baek.” Yixing butted in as the doorbell clanged for the third time as if on cue.

Baekhyun stood up to check who his visitor was.

“Ch-Chanyeol?” Baekhyun spluttered. “Why are you here?”

The giant was faltered to go there in the first place because of what happened the last time the genius was at their house but thanks to Yixing. He lowered his head and uttered. “I heard you are sick.” He tipped at the basket he was holding. “I bought you fruits.”

“Oh Chanyeol, you’re finally here.” Yixing interfered who was now standing beside his bestfriend. Joonmyeon trailed at him. “Won’t you let him in Baek?” He smirked.

“Uh? Huh?“ The genius stuttered. “Wait… I-I mean, yeah come in. I’ll just alter clothes.” Damn, I’m still wearing pajamas.

He was about to sprint away when Chanyeol held his arm to stop him. “It’s okay.” He swore his Bacon looked extra cute when he was embarrassed in front of him just because he was still wearing his spongebob pajamas.

“Okay, we have to go Baek. Chanyeol take good care of my bestfriend e.” He smirked. “Let’s go Myeonnie.”

“Bye Baekhyun! Get well soon, okay? Bye Yeol!” Joonmyeon bowed.

Baekhyun was about to protest but he was too dumbfounded until he lost the two from his sight.

It took quite some time before Chanyeol had the courage to talk with the genius.

“Um Bacon? How do you feel? I mean, are you still sick?” He stammered. The two was sitting at the couch in the living room.

“I feel better now.” He replied as he put the back of his hand on his neck to assure and soon sneered. “Sorry, I forgot to inform you that we can’t have our review for today uh. But since you came, let’s just do it?”

“No. Yixing asked me to nurse you and make sure that you are resting so you better lay down on your bed and rest.” The giant stood on his feet and grabbed Baekhyun upstairs. “So where’s your room?”

He didn’t respond but still they ended up inside his room. Chanyeol gently threw him on his bed and soon exited the room.

The giant came back with a tray with him. He dished up the soup he cooked for Baekhyun and helped him up. The shorter guy was refusing but Chanyeol was persistent. Consequently, he swore it was the best soup he ever tasted.

“Thank you Chanyeol.” The genius shot him an appreciative smile. He truly valued the giant’s endeavor. “But sorry my dang bestfriend asked you to do this.”

“I’m not doing this because he asked me to. I’m doing this for you Bacon and because I want to.” He replied as he put the bowl back to the tray.

“Um– About what you had told me last time…”

“Ah. Just forget that Bacon. You don’t need to be bothered because of that. I bet that only triggered your stress. Sorry for causing it. I’m such a mess.”

“Yes. You’re the main reason for my sickness.” He whined.

Chanyeol’s heart twitched with what Baekhyun had said, but he knew he was right. It just hurt him more when it came directly from the genius.

“Sorry Bacon.”

“You really’re such a mess. I didn’t know why I fall for you. Such a sly giant.” He smirked and looked at Chanyeol straight in the eyes.

“Yes I’m a mess. And a sly giant.” He paused as he realized something. “What did you just say?”

“I said I love you too.”

Chanyeol merely lose his balance that he was about to fall from the wooden stool he was sitting on. He was still processing the words the genius just uttered. He barely believed that those words would come out from his candy lips and above all, Baekhyun was saying it to him.

“So you’re rejecting me now Park Chanyeol? Okay I’m taking it back…”

“No. Don’t! I was just so happy Bacon. Did you really mean that?”

“Hmm…”

“Baek!”

“Off course!”

“Can I hug you now?” The giant faltered. “Sorry, that was too much.”

But the genius was hugging him now. Hugging him so tight that he could barely breathe but he couldn’t help but to embrace him back. “Off course you can.”

“Thank you Bacon. This is the best day of my life.” The giant felt the warm tears escaping from the corner of his eyes. He barely noticed that it was already streaming down freely.

They stayed like that for quite a moment until Baekhyun pulled himself from the taller guy’s grip and held his face. “A giant who was a crybaby. Aish… How odd.” He chuckled.

“But you love this giant crybaby.” He mumbled as Baekhyun wiped his cheeks from the tears.

“Yes.”
