First Date

Unknown Love

JoongKi stared at Sunny as she gently played with the napkin set beside her empty plate. He watched as her eyes roamed around the large restaurant. The almost inaudible buzz of chatter filled the dining room with a content warmth, but Sunny couldn't help but feel slightly uncomfortable. She had never been to an expensive restaurant like this before and she felt incredibly out of placed. She wished JoongKi had told her where they were going so she could dress a bit more formally, but she had only expected a simple date and therefore wore a simple outfit of a blue skirt and pink collared sweater. She wished she could go home and fix her hair, but she took a quick nap before he picked her up which resulted in her having to put her hair into a bun. Not the fanciest of hairdos.

Despite her informal getup, JoongKi couldn't help but think she was incredibly beautiful, and he made sure to let her know his thoughts as much as he could. He liked how she managed to look amazing in whatever she wore. Maybe he was just being bias, but either way, he found her clothing to be full of charm.

"Sunny-ah," said JoongKi as he leaned back on his chair. He pouted his lips slightly then continued to speak. "Why are you so quite all of a sudden?" he asked. Sunny's cheeks flushed a light pink color as she brought her eyes up to JoongKi's. She thought about how much she's changed since she met him. She would never blush over a few simple words, she would never become shy in front anyone, and she definitely wouldn't have so many butterflies in her stomach.

"I guess I'm just a bit nervous," confessed Sunny as she smiled up at him. He felt his stomach ache with an unknown happiness as he smiled back at her.

"Have you decided on what you want to eat?" asked JoongKi as he put down his menu.

Sunny hesitated before she placed her hand over the metal bordered menu, "everything is really expensive." She looked up at JoongKi; a worried expression on her face as she removed her hand and placed it securely in her lap.

"That's what you're worried about?" asked JoongKi as he smiled at her cuteness. "I brought you here so you could have a good time Sunny-ah, don't worry about the price of anything and eat what ever you want. Okay?"

Sunny looked into JoongKi's eyes and smiled softly as she realized that he was caring for her. She felt an unfamiliar warmth wrap her heart as she picked up her menu enthusiastically and read through the contents excitedly.

The wind blew comfortably past their faces as they walked down the dimly lit streets of Seoul. They had finished their meal a while ago and had walked down the streets long enough for their cheeks and noses to turn a light shade of red. They tried to dodge the puddles that formed after a sudden rainfall. Although JoongKi was happy with finally being Sunny's boyfriend, he couldn't help but feel unsatisfied. The same question had been barking at him from the back of his mind ever since that ill-fated day: why did she leave?

'Should I ask her?' he thought as he looked down at her while she spoke about her sister's new relationship. He waited until she finished talking before asking.

"Sunny-ah?"

"Yes JoongKi-ah?" asked Sunny as she stopped walking to look at him. She noticed a wavering softness in his voice as he spoke and wondered if he was okay.

"A few months ago...why did you quit?" he asked as he looked her in the eyes. He remembered the pain he felt when he saw her leave his office, the realization that she would never come back piercing his confused heart. He desperately needed an answer.

Sunny took a while to answer, but soon decided on the words she'd say and placed her hands to the side of her body. "Remember when I asked you about your competition?" asked Sunny. JoongKi looked at her, confused. Obviously, he didn't remember, which made Sunny giggle slightly. "Well, your main competition was Lee Jewelry right?" JoongKi nodded. "My father owned that company. Don't worry about anything now, he's living happily and healthily, but that day was just a bad one for the company and I felt wrong working for the competition," confessed Sunny as she thought of how painful it was to look at her father in such a vulnerable state.

"...I'm sorry," said JoongKi as his gaze filled with sorrow.

"Don't worry about it! Like I said, he's living happily and healthily now," said Sunny as she smiled brightly up at her new boyfriend. JoongKi smiled back before a large truck caught his attention. He spotted a deep puddle on the road behind Sunny and quickly grabbed her hand to pull her out of the way of the dirty water as the truck passed by. Sunny let out a small laugh then thanked JoongKi. She became incredibly aware of her sweaty fingers when the realized that JoongKi had no intention of letting go of her hand.

"You don't have to hold my hand," said Sunny softly as she smiled up at JoongKi shyly.

"I know, but I want to."
