chapter 9*

My Bully, My Lover

Chanyeol's POV

Her? I'm tutoring HER?!

Soojin looked just as surprised as I was.

"Er, is everything alright?" the teacher looked back and forth between Soojin and I with a concerned look. "Is there something wrong with the pairing?"

I looked at Soojin unsure of how to answer. Was she going to object?

"No, sunsaengnim. It's fine, I'm glad it's someone I know." she told the teacher. My eyes almost popped out of my head. She's glad? She gave me a look as if to tell me to stop staring.

"Is this pairing alright with you Chanyeol?" the teacher asked me, still not convinced.

I blinked a few times before I answered. "N-Neh."

"Alright, good!" the teacher clapped her hands together in satisfaction. The first bell rang. "I have to go now if I want to make it to my first class on time. You guys should talk about time and location for your tutoring. Make sure you go easy on her Chanyeol! Don't overwhelm her!"

The teacher grabbed her things and left without another word. Soojin and I stood there awkwardly, not moving. Great, the boys will tease me endlessly about this!

"So..." Soojin started to speak. I noticed that she had turned to face me. "Is it really alright with you to be tutoring me?"

Why wouldn't it? What was she implying? "I know I'm not your favorite person in the world right now. If you don't feel comfortable teaching me, I'm sure I can ask for a different tutor..." she muttered, looking down this time.

"What makes you think you're not my favorite person right now?" I blurted. I mentally hit myself for thinking outloud.

In actuality, it was quite the opposite. I was intrigued by her. There was something about Soojin that just drew me to her. I couldn't deny that fact any longer. But it wasn't because I liked her, no, it wasn't that at all. I figured the best way to figure it out was to spend more time with her. Eventually, I should be able to figure out why I'm so curious about her so I can control this stupid feeling I get every time I'm around her.

"Well..." she started, still looking down playing with her feet. "With you saving me and the commotion that the school is causing for you, isn't that enough? I know I'm starting to become a burden to you and your friends. Not to mention Minji doesn't seem too happy about us being friends."

Friends. Why did that word get me so...angry? "Wow, when did you become so considerate of other people's feelings? Especially Minji? Last time I checked, you beat her ." I told her, referring to their quarrel in phys ed the other day.

"She started it! She got what she deserved, actually, not enough if I had a say in it!" Soojin suddenly shouted at me. She look annoyed and frustated. I couldn't help but to smile at her. There's the Soojin I know.

"Yah, you two! The second bell is going to ring soon, head to class!" a teacher had yelled at us.

We both bowed and left the faculty office together. Some students that were in the hallways saw us exit the office together and started to whisper. Usually I didn't care, but this time I'm glad they noticed.

Spread the news fellow classmates. Soojin and I are going to be seen together a lot from now on.

*****

Soojin's POV

Of all people! Seriously? I huffed internally. I couldn't believe my luck. I wasn't necessarily upset that Chanyeol was my tutor. I actually didn't mind it at all. But it sure as hell going to be hard to stay away from him and the boys if he's my tutor. The students of this school will never approve of this!

Chanyeol and I walked down a few steps down the hallway before he sparked a conversation. I was so mesmerized by this moment and I hated myself for it. I never noticed how great he looked in the school uniform. Everyone else looked a little strange and uncomfortable in their uniform, but it looked as if the uniform was made for Chanyeol. He was walking with both his hands in his pockets and looked as if the world was wrapped around his finger.

"So when do you want to start?" he asked casually, looking forward.

His lip and cheek injury seemed to be healing nicely. Another wave of guilt rushed over me as I thought back to that horrific day.

"Hello?" he asked, trying to get my attention. Oh my gosh, did he just catch me checking him out?! I snapped my neck forward, but I knew the color was rising in my cheeks. "I asked when you wanted to start?"

"U-Um..." I stuttered. Man, I was so smooth. "I have a test coming up next week so, do you think we can start tomorrow?" I needed to set everything aside for a moment and just focus on my academics. I had no time to confuse myself with Chanyeol issues, I had a test to prepare for and at this rate, I was going to fail miserably.

"Why don't we start today? If you're having a lot of trouble, then it's best to start as soon as possible." he suggested.

"Today?!" I exclaimed in surprise, making him jump back in shock. "Oh sorry, I didn't think you wanted to jump right into the whole tutoring thing so soon..."

We were now outside, facing the main courtyard of campus. There were students scattered all over the place and many, unfortunately, took notice of Chanyeol and me on their way to their classroom. I was about to turn and leave before more people noticed when Chanyeol stopped me.

"Look," Chanyeol said, turning me to face him. "I know we didn't necessarily get off on the wrong foot - and I'll admit that some of it was my fault."

Some? Pft, try all of it was your fault.

"But the boys seem to really like you and I'm not going to be the guy to get in the way of their friendship. I may be a rude like you think I am, but I at least know when to it up for my friends." he continued.

it up? What could you possibly be up by letting them be friends with me? And since when did they need your permission to be friends with someone? The more words that came out of his mouth, the more annoyed I got. Who did he think he was? Did he really think he held as much power as his big head believed?

"And despite what you may think, I don't hate you." Chanyeol concluded, his facial expression softening just a bit.

I raised an eyebrow. Well you certainly don't like me.

"You may find this hard to believe, but you've actually started to grow on me. I know right? I'm shocked too." he said, not believing it himself. "What can I say? I'm used to you being around and the boys have as well. Well, no. They actually want you around. And that's something that has never happened before. It's been just the six of us for as long as I can remember, but lately, it's been the eight of us."

I could not believe what I was hearing. I was so in awe, I continued to stare at him. Where was all of this coming from?

"I know it's only been like, what - a few days? A week? Which is what blows my mind the most. You! A new girl from the States! The most stubborn, rudest, most blunt girl I have ever met! You managed to win the heart of six closed off boys." Chanyeol continued. Wait, did he say six? "I know there are some things that you don't understand about this school yet, and that's alright. Hell, I can't blame you. Sometimes I don't even understand why things are the way they are here either. But after a few more weeks, you'll learn how this school works. And when you do, it'll make each day go by smoother than the day before."

I think he was waiting for me to say something. I didn't know what I looked like to him right now, but I was too busy trying to absorb everything he was saying to me. I don't know how long we stood there staring at each other, but no matter how much the time passed, I couldn't open my mouth to respond.

"Um...if it's an apology you're looking for..." Chanyeol shifted his weight uncomfortably. "...I am sorry. And you better accept it! If there's one thing you need to know about me, it's that I don't apologize easily. So you better accept it because I'm not going to say it again!"

I blinked a few more times, still lost for words. What. Is. Happening. Right. Now. I know I was staring at Chanyeol, but I couldn't help that I was being stared at either. I looked to my left and saw that almost everyone's attention was at Chanyeol and me. I looked back at Chanyeol to see if he noticed, but it didn't look like he did. If he did, he didn't care or show it. His focus was on me and me only - it made me uncomfortable being under his intense stare like that.

"Uh..thank you?" I muttered, looking back down at my feet.

Chanyeol let out an annoyed sigh and shifted his weight again. "Is there anything else you can say other than 'thank you'?"

"Um..." What do you want me to say! "I appreciate...your kind words?" Honestly though, what was he expecting? Like, come on now.

He looked at me like I was crazy and disapprovingly shook his head. "Are you the same Soojin that kicked me on the first day of school?"

My heart started to beat at an extremely fast pace. Soojin. This is the first time I've heard you say my name. Why is my body reacting like this?

The second bell rang, which was enough to snap me back to reality.

"Alright well...we'll talk about the details at lunch. See you later." he gave me a small smile, a pat on the shoulder and walked away.

Uh...what the hell just happened?

*****

I rushed into the classroom luckily getting in before our homeroom teacher, still trying to make sense of what happened. Did Chanyeol just tell me that he wants to be friends? Or is he just apologizing for being a jerk? Or is it neither? UGH! I was about to rip the hair out of my head when I noticed that the tension in the classroom was harsh.

I looked at my classmates who were all looking at the same direction. I followed their gazes to land on none other than Minji. Usually, I could have cared less about this girl - but she was crying. Another girl, whom I've never seen before, was standing in front of her with a pair of scissors in her hand, shaking with anger. Half of Minji's hair was cut right below her chin.

What the hell is going on? Anyone could have seen that this was not a good situation. I took one look at Minji's miserable, tear-filled face and I knew that I had to do something.

"Who the hell are you?" I called for the girl with the scissors.

"Mind your own business new girl." She smirked and faced Minji again. "You thought you could get away with it didn't you?"

"Alright, alright. You heard the second bell ring. You should go to class before the teacher comes in." I told the girl as nicely as I could, without sounding annoyed with that "new girl" comment. Like seriously, is that going to stick until someone else comes along? I approached her and tried to take the scissors out of her hand before she did anything else rash.

When she sensed me reaching for it, she swiftly raised her arm to avoid my hands. In result, the scissor blade grazed up my cheek and left a long gash from above my jawline up to my cheekbone. The rest of the students all gasped at what they had just seen. Even the damn girl with the scissors seemed to look horrified.

"All right, that's it." I grabbed the scissors out of her frozen hands. "Get the out of here!" I shouted at her. I wanted to beat the out of her, no doubt. But we were in school and the teacher would come in any second.

Surprisingly, she look horrified and was on the verge of tears. "I'm so sorry!" she shouted and ran out of the classroom right when the homeroom teacher walked in.

"What is going on here?!" the teacher shouted. I'm sure this looked very, very wrong.

Minji was still crying, her cut hair spread across the floor. I was standing over her with scissors in my hands and with my cheek now bleeding.

"I asked what the hell is going on here?!" the teacher shouted again, getting impatient.

"I know what it looks like sunsaengnim but Minji--" I started to explain.

"Soojin cut my hair!!!" Minji wailed.

Wait, what? Did she just say that I cut her hair?

"Excuse me?!" the teacher shouted, horrified.

"No, no, no! That's not what happened!" I waved my hands in denial. What the hell is happening?! I looked around at my classmates expectantly. Surely at least one of them would speak up and say that I didn't do anything, right? But they kept their mouths shut and averted eye contact with me. You have got to be kidding me. If only Shinji had been in school today.

"Miss Lee, report to the dean's office immediately!" the homeroom teacher shouted.

"B-B-But, I didn't do anything!" A mix of emotions flooded over me as my hands started to shake.

What the hell is happening?!

"Miss Lee! Dean's office, NOW!" the teacher fumed. I placed the scissors on Minji's desk and glanced at her.

She was smiling. Her eyes twinkled as a hideous realization came over me.

This set me up!

*****

I got suspended. I fcking got suspended from school.

"This school takes bullying very seriously Soojin. We do not make exceptions of any kind. I'm not sure how things were back in the States for you, but this is absolutely unacceptable." The once kind dean was cold and disgusted by me and continued to scold me as the nurse was patching up my cheek. I mean, I know it looked bad and Minji lied about me cutting her hair, but why wasn't he asking about what happened to me? Was my injury insignificant to the whole sitation? Was my bleeding cheek nothing compared to Minji's hair?! It'll grow back for goodness sake! He even made me apologize to Minji! I swear, if it was just me and Minji, I would have beaten the silicone out of her face.

"I warned you. I'm going to keep you away from Chanyeol oppa and the boys no matter what. You're going to wish you never came to Korea." she whispered to me while the dean was on the phone with Jina. "You're going to wish you were never born after I'm done with you."

It took all my strength to not attack her right there, but I couldn't risk giving her that satisfaction.

As soon as the dean got off the phone, he sent Minji home as well to "recover". The dean made me leave school immediately too.

"Your ride will be here in a few minutes. Is there anything you need to do before you leave the premsies? You will not be allowed back onto school property until 7 days from today." he told me sternly. Man, this guy must hate me right now.

I shook my head. "No sir." This was so unfair! What the hell is wrong with the girls in my class? Why didn't they say anything?!

The dean nodded. "You may leave now. I'm sure you have things in your locker that you have to retreive."

I nodded, gave him a bow and left the office without saying another word. Usually, I would have apologized and shown remorse. But I couldn't even fake it out of respect because this whole situation was just ludicrous!

I reached my locker and gathered the things I needed for the next week. I guess I'll ask Shinji to gather my assignments for me? I took out my history notebook next and realized that the day after my suspension was my first history exam.

Well crap! I knew the school wasn't going to make any exceptions for me with this one, especially after what had happened. I closed my locker and headed to the boys building.

*****

Chanyeol's POV

After I told Suho and Baek about my tutoring situation, they wouldn't leave me alone.

"Do you think the student/teacher relationship ban would apply to you guys?" Baek teased.

"So when are you going to go to her house?" Suho suggestively raised his eyebrows up and down.

"Will you guys shut up?" I knew the teasing would be endless. Maybe I should have just kept the news to myself.

The teasing continued when the classroom started to quiet down. I thought that the next teacher had walked in when I saw Soojin standing at the door, scanning the classroom.

"Looks like she's here for an early lesson." Baek cackled.

I punched him on the bicep as she started to approach me. I know I said that she could hang out with us freely, but isn't this a little much? I noticed that she had a big bandage covering her left cheek. She was perfectly fine this morning, I wondered what happened.

"Hi, sorry to bother you in class," she said softly, as all the boys' attention was towards a girl in their all boys classroom.

"Soojin, you should come to our class more often!" Suho smiled.

"Yeah, I wish this school allowed co-ed classes!" Baek added. "But what happened to your pretty face?"

Soojin smiled softly, but there was sadness in her eyes. "I'm a klutz, what can I say?"

"Why are you here?" I asked her, annoyed with all the guys staring. Not to mention, the way she looked at me broke my heart. Did something happen?

"I ran into a little situation and have to head home." she told me. "What should be do about our lesson today?"

"Oh," I couldn't help but to be a little disappointed. Of course she's here about tutoring, why else would she be here? "Why don't we meet at the library after school?"

She bit her lip. "Um, I can't meet at the libray. I was thinking maybe my place? Or yours, whatever you're more comfortable with."

Baek gasped as my classmates that overheard cooed. "Soojin! Don't you think you're taking things a little too fast?!"

Suho threw his pen and hit Baek square on the forehead. "Shut up, Baek!"

Truthfully, Baek just said what we were all thinking outloud. Why didn't she want to study in the library? She was blushing harshly and I could tell that she was regretting her decision coming here.

"What's wrong with the library?" I asked, leaning back on my chair. I'm not going to lie, I'm really curious to see what her room looks like, what her bed looks like...I shook my head. What the hell! Get your mind out of the gutter Chanyeol!

She was struggling to put her words together. My curiosity was increasing with every second of silence. What was she hiding?

Suddenly, she let out a big breath and threw her arms in the air. "Oh forget it! You guys will probably find out soon enough anyways!"

The three of us as well as the rest of the boys gave her the same look of confusion.

"I got suspended for a week and can't come to school for the next 7 days." she said, annoyed.

"What?!" the three of us said together, commotion arising within the classroom trying to guess what she could have done.

"You got suspended? What did you do?" Suho asked,  concerned.

"What a badass!" Baek cheered.

"I didn't do fricken anything," she mumbled. "I don't want to talk about it right now. If I do, I'm going to freak out." Baek laughed and Suho grew more concerned. "So your house or mine?"

"Um.." I sensed that if I went to her house, I would have trouble focusing. So I went with the better option. "Come to my house at 5pm."

She nodded without a second thought. "Alright, I'll see you later. Um...text me your address. You can get my number from one of these goons."

And with that, she turned and left the classroom.

"I wonder what happened," Suho furrowed his eyebrows.

"I'm sure we'll find out soon," I responded as they nodded knowingly. "Why you gotta be such an Baek?"

"Whoa! Is the king of asshood talking to me?" Baek laughed.

****

"Guys! Did you guys hear what Soojin did?!" Sehun shouted, almost dropping his lunch approaching us.

"What are you talking about?" D.O asked, taking his seat. It was raining today so the entire student population of Chunsa spent their lunch period inside the cafeteria. We all gathered at our usual table in the back.

"Soojin! She got suspended!" Sehun exclaimed in disbelief. "Do you know what happened?"

"How do you know that?" I asked pointlessly. We all knew gossip in this school was wireless, but I still find myself asking every time.

"I overheard some girls talking while getting food." Sehun started. "Something about Soojin cutting Minji's hair?"

"What?" Kai was shocked as the rest of us were. "Soojin? No way, she wouldn't do something like that."

"True, she's ballsy and can be scary as hell," D.O added. "But she wouldn't go as far as cutting someone's hair. Even it is Minji."

As the boys discussed, I couldn't wrap my head around Soojin doing something like that. It wasn't true and I knew it.

"You!" I called after a 2nd year girl who was passing by our table. "Come here!"

The girl look terrified but excruciately happy at the same time. She quickly rushed over to us with gleaming eyes.

"Y-Yes oppa?" she squeaked.

"You're in Soojin's class right?" She nodded violently. I swear, if she nodded any harder, her head was going to detatch from her body.

"What happened to Soojin today?" Kai asked coldly. He could be loving and cute, but sometimes he can be really intimidating.

"H-Huh?" the girl stammered, starting to get scared. "W-What do you m-mean?"

"Lee Soojin." Suho asked her seriously. "What happened between her and Minji today?"

"M-Minji?" the girl looked helpless, looking left and right as if someone was going to come in and save her. "Soo-Soojin cut M-Minji's h-hair."

"Is that the truth?" Kai asked, narrowing his eyes on her.

"N-Neh?" If I didn't know any better, she was going to faint any second.

"I asked if the bull you just told us was the truth." Kai repeated getting angry.

"Well..um..you see," she stuttered.

"You tell us the truth about what happened between Soojin and Minji right now or you're going to pay for the consequences," I threatened her. To be honest, I wasn't actually going to do anything, but the school always feared what the six of us would do if anyone got on our bad side.

"Minji set her up!" the girl screamed. "She paid off a girl from another class to act like a bully and Soojin came to help Minji, just like she expected, and then the teacher came in and saw Soojin with the scissors and Minji told the teacher that Soojin was the one to cut her hair when actually Minji cut her hair herself and--"

"Hold it!" I held up my hand to make sure stop rambling. Minji did what?! The six of us were soaking in the garbage we had just heard spilling out of this girl's mouth. She was crying now but none of us really cared enough to do anything about it. The entire cafeteria had eyes on us at this point.

"So you knew that Minji was scheming the whole time?" Baek asked, growing irritated.

The girl nodded and she continued to sob.

"THEN WHY THE HELL DIDN'T YOU TELL THE TEACHER SHE DIDN'T DO ANYTHING?!" Baek screamed, slamming his fists on the table, standing himself up. He brushed his fingers through his hair in frustration. Suho tried to calm him down, but Baek wouldn't sit back down.

"I wanted to! We all did! But Minji said if any of us said anything then she would do horrific things to us! To us and our families!" The girl continued to shed tears. Her wailing was getting on all of our nerves so D.O told her to leave.

"Wait a second," I stopped her. "Then what happened to Soojin's face?" Why did she have a bandage on her face? Why was her perfect skin now blemished?

"She was trying to take the scissors away from the other girl when she accidently got cut by the blade," she bawled some more. "I'm sorry! I'm sorry I didn't say anything! We all feel guilty about what happened to Soojin. If I could--"

"It's a little late now, don't you think?" Sehun said with shaking fists.

Every student was watching and listening to what was going on. I couldn't contain my anger anymore either. I shot up from my seat and scanned through the crowds of students.

"KANG MINJI! WHERE IS KANG MINJI!"
