chapter 7*

My Bully, My Lover

Soojin's POV

It turned into night sooner than I thought. I really needed more than a day to go through every part of this city. I entered a small cafe to take a short break before heading back home. The weather was starting to get chilly as the autumn season was coming to an end and the empty cafe showed that everyone went home early. I ordered a hot chocolate and took a seat to read my book for a while.

"Exucse me miss? I'm sorry, but we're closing soon." an employee had told me apologetically. "You're more than welcome to back again tomorrow!"

I looked at my watch and it was already past midnight! Geez, how long have I been here? "Oh! I'm sorry, I must have lost track of the time. I'll be going now!" I gave the boy a bow and left the cafe.

The temperature had dropped enough for me to wish I had brought something to wear over my thin top. I looked at my surroundings quickly before I decided on a direction to head home.

The streets were strangely empty for a Friday night. I decided to cut through a park as a shortcut to get to the bus stop. After a few minutes, I wasn't sure if I was going the right way. I'm pretty sure I saw this bench before.

"Oh, excuse me?" I called after the only two people in the park. I'm sure they can help me find the bus stop.

I walked towards them as they turned around to see who had called for them.

Oh crap.

The two people I had called were two older boys, probably in college - drunk out of their mind.

"Oh, well aren't you a pretty little thing?" slurred one taller boy.

"What can oppa do for you?" the shorter boy tried to keep his balance by holding onto his friend.

"Um, nevermind. I thought you were someone I knew." I quickly turned to walk away when someone grabbed my wrist.

"I can be someone you know if you want me to be," said the taller boy. "The night is still young, why don't you hang out with us?"

"Um, I have to go meet with someone." I tried to pry his hand off my wrist, but his grip was too strong.

"Don't be scared sweetie. We'll take good care of you." The other boy came over to me, grabbed my shoulders and started to push me forward.

"Please, I must go." The alcohol on their breath was strong and I knew that they wouldn't take no for an answer. I continued to struggle, but they continued to push and pull me harder, starting to get annoyed.

"Stop it! I said let me go!" I elbowed the shorter guy behind me, causing him to fall backwards.

"You !" the taller boy grew angry, tightening his grip on my wrist. If it didn't hurt before, then I could have sworn my hand was going to fall off now. "You're really going to regret that."

Before I knew it, both guys clenched onto me and roughly pulled me forward. I may be tough, but there was only so much I could do against two grown, drunk guys.

"No! Let me go you s! I said let me go!" I was starting to get really scared. What were they going to do? My mind started to rapidly go through all of the crime shows that I've seen - , murders. Tears started to fill my eyes in fear but I continued to struggle and managed to kick one of them in the face.

"That's it!" the taller boy snarled as he got up with a raised hand.

I shut my eyes, expecting to feel pain but instead I heard a loud thump. I opened my eyes to see the taller boy on the floor again and someone standing above him. And that someone was Chanyeol.

"Two against one? That isn't very fair is it?" he sneered at the tall boy who quickly got up.

"Are you alright Jeeha?" the shorter boy shouted at his friend. He continued to hold onto my shoulders but seemed to be hiding behind me. "Your lip is bleeding!"

"I'm going to kill this bastard!" the taller boy, Jeeha enraged. He plunged forward ready to hurt Chanyeol, but Chanyeol was too fast and easily dodged what came his way.

I watched in fear, praying that Chanyeol would win this fight. Suddenly, I was roughly thrown to the side as the shorter boy went to go help his friend. I landed harshly on the floor, scraping the palms of my hands.

Now the fight was two against Chanyeol. The second boy had surprised Chanyeol and punched him hard across the face. I felt helpless, there was nothing I could do but watch in fear.

The fight had escalated quickly, but Chanyeol was more than capable of taking the two boys on. Although the two boys were able to get in a few good hits, Chanyeol had managed to take them both down, rolling on the floor in pain.

"Are you alright?" he asked me. I was still in shock, not able to register yet what had just happened. My attention was at the two boys on the floor, who got up and ran away. "Are you alright?" he asked me again, taking off his coat and putting it over my shoulders.

I slowly turned my attention from the running away boys to Chanyeol, who was now bent down in front of me. He placed a hand on my shoulder and gave me a concerned look. He had never looked at me straight in the face before, not like this anyways. I suddenly grew nervous under his stare.

"Y-Yeah.." I told him, looking down. I was in a dazed state caused by a mix of the way Chanyeol was looking at me from this close and the aftermath of what had just happened. I shuddered thinking about what could have happened if it weren't for Chanyeol.

"Here, let me help you up." he grabbed my elbows and helped me onto my feet. He noticed my scraped palms. "Are you alright?" he asked again.

I quickly hid my hands behind my back. "Yeah, I'm fine." I looked up at him and saw that he had a busted lip and a small gash on his cheek. The guilt rushed over me like a huge wave. "Are you alright?"

He touched his lip and saw that he was bleeding. "Oh, well that's unfortunate." he said. "I think I'll live."

And then he smiled. HE. FRICKEN. SMILED. I almost fainted. Not only because I have never seen him smile before. Not only because he was smiling at me. But because it was a really great smile. It wasn't a full smile, something small and subtle. But it had an effect on me like someone had just thrown a surprise party.

"Um, are you sure you're okay?" he looked down at me worried. I must have looked like an idiot to him right now.

Before I could make myself look more like a dazed fool, I quickly pulled him to a nearby bench and made him sit down. "I'll be right back. Stay here and don't move okay?"

I dashed to the opposite direction, leaving a very confused Chanyeol.

*****

Chanyeol's POV

What the hell? Did she just really leave me here? She didn't even say thank you for saving her ! And she calls me rude!

I took my phone out to see the damage those two caused. My lip was busted and I had a cut on my cheek. Ugh, just what I needed right now.

After dinner with the boys, we went our seperate ways. I had decided to take the scenic route through the park to think about what had happened earlier with Soojin when I heard someone screaming. I ran towards the noise and saw that it was Soojin. She was struggling in the hands of two guys. I didn't think, my legs started to run over and I punched the guy who had the same intentions in doing the same thing to Soojin.

I felt a strange satisfaction pummeling those two asses to death. For some reason, all that went through my head was, Don't you dare touch her. Don't you even think about touching her. My eyebrows furrowed again in confusion, trying to explain my thoughts.

Soojin quickly appeared and took a seat next to me, breathless.

"Sorry, it took me a while to get back." she huffed as she took out the contents of a small shopping bag. It was ointment, q-tips and a box of bandages. She took a q-tip and put the ointment on it. "Here."

Before I could protest, she had started to lightly dab the medicine on my cheek. I winced at the sudden sharp pain.

"Oh, sorry!" she exclaimed, working lighter on my wound, occassionally blowing some air on it. She was really close and I found myself staring at her. I knew she was pretty up close, but she was even prettier closer. Her eyelashes were thick and long. She had perfect milky skin with just the right amount of color in her cheeks. Her long, shiny hair fell effortlessly around her face and onto her shoulders. And she smelled good, really good. Her eyebrows were slightly creased while concentrating on my cut. My heart started to feel warmer the longer I looked at her.

"Thank you," she said quietly, grabbing another q-tip. "...for saving me."

She didn't look at me once while caring for my small wound and I found it...cute. I found her nervousness and tender actions adorable. Compared to her challenging, strong front that I had always seen, it was nice to see this side of her. I couldn't help but soften at this side of her. I hoped that she couldn't hear how loud my heart was beating right now.

She gently placed a bandage over my cheek. "I'm sorry you got hurt trying to save me." She took out a fresh q-tip and was about to dab the ointment on my busted lip. I caught her wrist before she would touch me. If my heart was reacting this way, there was no way I was going to let her touch my lips.

Instead, I grabbed the q-tip out of her hand, turned her palm over and applied the ointment on her own skin.

"You can't be walking around at night alone. The city isn't that dangerous, but you'll run into a lot of drunk guys on Friday nights." I told her, trying to match her gentleness on her own wounds. Even her hands were beautiful.

I sensed her nod slowly. "Okay." she muttered.

We sat there quietly as I put a bandage on her palm. I put ointment on a new q-tip and reached for her other hand. She pulled it away before I could.

"Um, I-I can do it," she stuttered. I looked at her and saw that the color in her cheeks deepened. This was no time to be embarrassed of what happened. She should just be happy that I got here in time. Anger started to spark when I thought about what those boys could have done to her if I arrived a second later. I shook the thoughts out of my head. I reached for her hand again before she was able to pull away once more.

I fought the smile that was trying so hard to spread across my face. I couldn't deny the flahses of electricity I felt at our skinship. I like holding your hand.

We continued to sit there in silence and I didn't mind it. It was comfortable. Peace had finally come over me for the first time that week. Soon, I was finished patching up her last hand.

"Thank you," she said quietly. It was strange hearing her voice so soft like that. This was probably the first time she's spoken to me without raising her voice or giving me an attitude. "For helping me today."

She wouldn't meet her eyes with mine. I watched her as she started to clean the bandage scraps and used q-tips. What are you thinking right now? I couldn't help but wonder what was going through her mind at that moment.

"Are you sure you're alright?" I asked her. I started to grow infuriated once more thinking back to those two s who had tried to hurt her. She must be traumatized.

She nodded. "Thank you." Man, she's thanking me a lot today. "You should really put some medicine on that." She pointed at my busted lip.

"Don't worry about it. I've been through worse" I told her. Is she caring for me right now?

My heart continued to beat at its fast, strong rate and it didn't feel as if it was going to calm down anytime soon. Oh god, what is going on with me right now?

She grabbed another q-tip anyway. "It'll heal much faster if you put some of this on it."

Before I knew it, she was inches away from my face, carefully applying pressure to the corner of my lower lip. My heart went from beating at a rapid rate to not at all. My eyes grew, shocked at the sudden proximity and I suddenly forgot to breathe.

Soojin...you are the first girl to make me feel this way.

*****

Soojin's POV

We silently walked side by side towards the streets. I was still traumatized over what had happened, but I found myself to be more nervous at the moment than anything.

Oh gosh, this is so embarrassing! He must think I'm a huge baby! Acting all tough before only to see me in tears! Ugh!

My chest was doing all sorts of thumping, jumping and fluttering. No matter how many deep breaths I took, it would not go back to normal.

"Are you sure you're okay? Do you need to sit down?" Chanyeol asked me with a concerned look. Oh my goodness, stop talking to me! You're making my chest feel worse!

"I-I'm fine. Just still a little..." Wait, if I tell him I'm scared then he'll make fun of me for sure! His teasing will be endless!

We continued to walk in silence. I stole a few glances at him. He was an entire head taller than me. I never noticed how good-lookng he was until today. He had a hard expression on his face all the time, but today I saw a whole new side to him, a softer side. A side that I really liked.

I wanted to start a conversation with him somehow, but what was I supposed to say? Maybe it's best if we just continue to walk in silence. I mean, we hate each other don't we? I can't just start acting like we're friends all of a sudden. That would freak him out.

I continued to go through my thoughts rapidly until I landed on one thought. Gratitude.

He had saved me in probably what was the most scary, troubled moment of my entire life. Him. Park Chanyeol. Of all people, this jerk rescued me in my time of need. And I owed him, big time.

We reached the busy street before either of us could say anything else to each other. Chanyeol hailed a taxi for me and opened the door, waiting for me to get in.

"Um, thank you again for today," I muttered, giving his coat back. "Really, I can't thank you enough."

"I think you have." he told me flatly, taking it in one hand. Ugh, Soojin! Just shut up! You're starting to become a burden!

I stood there hesitant to get in the cab. I didn't want to leave yet, not like this.

"Is there something wrong?" Chanyeol asked me, raising his eyebrow.

"No.." my cheeks started to flare up again.

"Is there something you need to say?" he asked.

"No..." thank goodness it was nighttime or he would have definitely seen how red my face must have been.

"Then why aren't you getting in?" he asked me.

"I was actually going to ask if..." Going to what? Going to ask what! Soojin, get a hold of yourself! "Nevermind." With that, I quickly jumped into the taxi.

"Get home safe." Chanyeol said and then closed the door.

I watched him walk away in the opposite direction until he caught a cab for himself. I gave the taxi driver my address and stared out the window thinkng back at what had just happened to me within the past couple of hours.

My chest slowly returned to a normal state, but was filled with a new sensation. It felt heavy and little empty. I looked back at the memory of treating Chanyeol's injuries. I know that I probably shouldn't have been so close to him, but something just drew me towards him.

His eyes were so much more intense up close. His jawline was so distinct, yet a soft feature. And when I was treating his bleeding lip, I couldn't take my eyes off them. They were the perfect shape, the perfect color...

My heart rate started to go back up and my cheeks flushed once more.

I am so screwed.
