Hwa Minah needed to leave. She lied on her bed in silence, she needed to escape. This orphanage is driving her insane. The food here isn’t edible, the rooms are cold as Antarctica, the place smells, and Minah always get punished for sleeping in. And it isn’t t the type of punishment you get at school. Here, they beat the out of you.

It was 2 am in the morning when Minah got out of bed. She walked over to her dresser and took out her duffle bag and started to stuff them with her things, not that she have much.

“Minah?” A small voice said. Minah froze, and dropped her things. She slowly turned around.

“Yes?” She croaked.

“What are you doing?” Jisun, her roommate asked.

“I’m leaving.”

“Minah! Get back to bed! You’ll get the both of us in trouble.” She got up and walked over to Minah. She grabbed her wrist and tried to shove Minah back to bed.

Minah shook her loose. “Let go!” She gave her a blank stare. “I can’t stay here. If you were in my situation, you’d understand.”

“Minah…please don’t leave…” Jisun was close to sobbing.

“Look.” Minah pulled up my sleeves and showed Jisun the bruises on her arms. “I have to leave. They treat us like dirt. I don’t even know why you’d stay want to stay here.”

“I just…need a home.” She muttered.

Minah froze. What was home to her?She never had one. She’s been here for as long as she could remember. All she could remember was that rainy day, when her mom dropped her off at the front doors. She just turned four, her mom kissed Minah’s forehead, then left. No goodbye, no happy birthday, and no I love you, nothing. Minah quickly snapped out of it. “This isn’t home.” She quickly said and then opened the door and walked out into the dark hallways. She managed to sneak past 4 security guards and ran out the building through a fire escape. Minah kept running onto the streets without looking back. The whole time, she heard shouting behind her, the security guards know that she’s running  away. They’ll come find her sooner or later.
