How Far Will We Go

Aiden had one word to describe his feelings, thoughts, and attitude to this situation: restlessness. He couldn't sleep. He couldn't even take a shower peacefully before becoming reminded about the impending decisions that would he would be informed about in a few days time. Here he was attending the same college as Jessica; the one he tried so hard to get into just to be around her daily. Now this school lost it's purpose. Without Jessica, why did he have to stay here? Why should he even stay? For a degree he didn't care about?

His foot tapped anxiously against the floor of his dorm. His hands also rubbed his thighs in pace with his foot.

If they both got expelled, what would their future look like? Would she still love him?

His hands reached out to his phone. She would help.

Ring ring. Ring ring.

"Hello?"

"Mom!" Aiden cried out. "I need help."

"Did you get Jessica pregnant? Didn't I tell you to be careful?"

"No. NO." Aiden pulled his phone away in disgust. "Mom. That's not something I want to talk to you about."

"Then what? Where are my grandchildren? I don't want an overgrown college student son." His mom laughed.

"I'm coming home."

"For the weekend?"

"No. For the rest of the year?" Aiden rubbed his forehead.

"Did you get a professor pregnant?"

"NO!" Aiden shouted.

"Okay. Calm down. What'd you do? Did you get expelled?" She joked.

"Yes."

"For what?"

"For a stupid reason."

"What?"

"A stupid reason." Aiden repeated again.

"Okay. Then when do you come home?"

"I think within the week."

"How's Jessica taking the news?"

"She's expelled too." Aiden felt his heart drop. "And it's my fault."

"Oh honey..." His mother could hear his voice drop sadly. "How did her parent's take it?"

"I don't know."

"You should be with her when she tells them. She'll need your support."

"What if I ruined her life? I don't think I can handle that."

"Ruin her life? You children are young! You still a have long and fruitful future together!"

"But we won't be able to get good jobs..." Aiden sighed. "And who would hire us."

"Honey, I don't know what you did, but that doesn't mean you'll be jobless forever. Look at you dad. He knocked me up in high school and he immediately joined the work force."

"That was twenty years ago..."

"But did you have a child and a wife?"

"No..."

"Exactly. You still have a bright future."

"A tough future."

"Son, I didn't raise you to be negative. Think on the bright side, you don't have to study anymore!" His mom sounded very happy when she said that. Why? Was he stupid or something?

"... But that's bad."

"You hated studying. We know."

"We?"

"Yes, your father's beside me. I have you on speaker."

"... Hi dad." Aiden felt himself shrinking at the sight of how angry his father would be.

"What's your next plan?" His father's voice echoed through his phone.

Plan? Career wise? Life? What plan?

"I don't have one yet."

"I heard from her father that you were going to propose to her."

"Ah that's right!!" His mom exclaimed in excitement. "When? Where's the ring? Show me when you come home!!"

"Why would he tell you that?"

"It means he's accepted us as in laws. And son, why didn't you tell us, YOUR PARENTS?" His mom demanded. "You should have asked us first."

"But you like Jessica already?"

"So? It doesn't hurt to ask." His mom said.

"Did he tell you anything else?"

"That and a dinner on Saturday."

"Do I go too?"

"It's only for the parents." His mothet explained. "We are dicsussing your marriage."

"... You guys are too eager for me to get married. I'm not even engaged." Aiden rolled his eyes.

"Anyways. Worry about your proposal and not about school. School is only for smart people." His dad replied.

"Thanks dad?" Wait. Was his dad calling him stupid?

"See you soon!"

"Bye." Aiden hung up and looked at the door. Henry was standing there with a frown. "What's wrong?"

"You're going to leave?"

"You kinda set that in stone in the meeting remember?"

"? I was high."

"How? Why?" Aiden kept his hands on his legs. Henry being high would explain a lot...

"Shannon gave me some." Henry smiled like an idiot. "She's my favorite."

Aiden blinked twice without responding. He stood up and headed for the door. Henry grabbed his arm before asking. "Where are you going?"

"To finalize my ring." Aiden shrugged his hand off. Henry was acting weird today... Was he high right now too? "I have plenty of time now to do so."

"Oh. Want me to come too?" Henry was bubbling with excitement. "My fingers are similar to Jessica's. I can try them on for her."

"Dude..." Aiden raised a brow at Henry.

"Fine. But can I still come?"

Knock knock knock.

The two look at the door.

"Whose that?"

"Just get it." Aiden tapped Henry.

His roommate quickly opened the door. "Hello?"

Jessica gave a small smile. "Hi..."
