The trip back to the newfound water didn't take as long this time, and so they arrived at their destination a good two hours before the sun set. The shadows were getting long, though, and Hyuna kept casting careful glances into the dark places, wary of snakes or other animals. They saw nothing, though, and at the sight of their new home she squealed with delight. Yoseob had spent most of the day clearing the area of any brush and vines, and now the three pools were surrounded by a large area of deep brown soil, soft and plush and not a snake in sight.
"Wow! It's beautiful!" She gasped, eyes darting here and there, trying to take in all the sights. Then her eyes found the water, and she suddenly realized how thirsty she had been. "Oh," she half whispered, and sank to her knees to gather handfuls of water to quench her thirst. All around her the others were doing the same, relieved to have pure water for the first time in days. As she sat back on her heels, reveling in the taste of the water, she saw Eli approach Yoseob and give him a light shove. Yoseob glared at him and said something in return, but Hyuna could tell that whatever it was, the shorter boy hadn't meant it. They seemed... comfortable. Well, not exactly, but more... friendly. Odd. She couldn't help but wonder what had happened, especially when Eli turned away to speak with Jonghyun, and Yoseob's eyes followed him closely.
Yoseob quickly took the lead again, telling them all how to pick a spot for sleeping and directing them all in helping to find sticks and dried brush for their campfire. They had a dinner of bananas, which had never been one of Hyuna's favorite foods (but she wasn't about to complain), and then settled in to sleep. The night was colder here in the jungle than it had been on the beach, and Hyuna found herself wishing for her bed. If only she hadn't allowed Suzy to talk her into going on this trip...
Suzy. The thought of her friend made her feel sick and she determinedly diverted her mind to a safer topic. She didn't want to spend the night dreaming about her best friend's death. And so she grabbed her coat from the supply pile and settled it over herself like a blanket, tucked her chin to her chest, and fell asleep, the inevitable dreams of the crash welcoming her into their embrace.
