Yuri stowed her carry-on bag into the overhead compartment and settled into her seat. She had a window seat, which she loved, but the girl sitting next to her was one of those snotty little cheerleader who always thought she was better than everyone else because she could do a back flip. Yuri may not have ever been able to do that, but she would pay to see that girl play volleyball, let alone lead the team to the championships two years in a row. They had a good chance of going this year, too.
Shifting around, Yuri began to pull off her heavy white coat. The girl huffed and puffed at her, but Yuri ignored her and continued; it was too warm in the cabin to wear this coat all the way to Hawaii. Folding it over her lap as a makeshift blanket, she settled back in her chair with her cell phone in hand. She knew she had to put it away before they took off, but she wanted to send one quick text.
~Hey mom. On the plane now, about to leave. Talk to you when we get to Hawaii. Love ya!~ She smiled as she pressed send; her mom had raised her all by herself and worked her of to do it, and Yuri dearly loved her mother in return. She turned off her phone and tucked it into one of the many pockets of her coat before settling back in her seat once more.
"Hey Yuri!" The girl in the aisle seat on the other side of the cheerleader called to get her attention, so she once more leaned forward to speak with her friend. "Do you think they'll allow us to go surfing in Hawaii? I've never been surfing!"
Bora's bubbly personality was always infectious, and Yuri felt a smile form on her face at the other girl's excitement. "I think we have some free time for recreational activities; I'll ask when we get to the hotel."
"Awesome!" Bora exclaimed, and Yuri dipped her head in a nod before settling down once more. "Awesome!" The snob next to her mimicked in a high, whiny voice before snickering and sending a mean look at Bora. In Yuri's eyes, meanness begot the like, and so she casually moved her foot over and stomped on the girl's designer clad foot.
"Ow!!!" She yelped, glaring at Yuri as she leaned down to massage her foot. "Miss Park! This stomped on my foot!"
Yuri loved Miss Park; not because she was some sort of push-over and not because Yuri did well in her class (she was average), but because Miss Park was strict and yet fair. She came marching over and just as the girl's smug look began, she her. "Young lady, you do NOT curse and call other people names! That is so unc..."
Yuri smiled and put her headphones on, tuning out the sound of the upbraiding happening beside her. Revenge was so sweet. She closed her eyes and drifted off to sleep with soothing music playing in her ears.
She was awaked hours later by a loud bang, the cabin dark and the plane shaking violently. Re lights came on above their heads, and she could see that oxygen masks had dropped from their compartments to dangle in front of them. A voice came over the intercom, firm but sounding a bit worried. "Everyone, this is your captain. We're experiencing some technical proble
