The night had the makings of being very uncomfortable; the only words that they had spoken throughout the day had been argumentative or apologies. To be honest, Eli didn't know much of anything about Yoseob. Of course, he knew WHO Yoseob was; he was involved in everything from drama club to the school newspaper and even class president a few years ago, and just about the most well-known person in their entire high school. Eli also knew of what Kikwang had told him, of how Yoseob and Kikwang had been neighbors and best friends all the way from kindergarten through junior high, up until the betrayal. Kikwang never spoke much about it, but after three years on the same team he and Eli had become close and he finally explained what had happened. Seeing Yoseob's reaction when Eli mentioned it, though, was not nearly as satisfactory as he thought it would have been; instead, the pain that had flashed across the shorter boy's face and filled his eyes with tears had cut Eli to the bone, making him sorry he had brought it up in the first place. But no matter how many times Eli apologized, Yoseob simply shook it off and said nothing in return.
And so they sat, uncomfortable on the rocks (because they didn't dare sit in the bush for fear of snakes) and awkward with each other, silence reigning and refusing to meet the other's glances. We can support the other that way and maybe catch some shuteye... what'dya say?"
Silence met his offer for what seemed forever, and then Yoseob shifted until his back was facing Eli. "Okay," he mumbled, and with a sigh of relief Eli scooted over until he felt his shoulder blades connect with Yoseob's. The shorter boy oddly let out a slight shiver, though it was anything but cold, but Eli ignored it and promptly dropped off to sleep.
The following morning he woke with Yoseob's head on his shoulder, eyes closed peacefully and breathing deep in sleep. Eli watched him for a moment, studying his features before moving his shoulder a bit to joggle the other boy into wakefulness.
"Oh, um," Yoseob started, edging away and a faint blush creeping over his cheeks, and Eli squashed hard on the thought that Yoseob was kind of cute when he was embarrassed (where did that come from?!?). Standing quickly to try and ignore that random and weird thought, Eli brushed his pants (relatively) clean and looked back to the other boy to see that he had regained his composure.
"One of us needs to head back," Yoseob said, if a bit too quickly, and Eli shrugged in response. There was an odd tension between them that was very unli
