I'll Play Your Game [Age Is But A Number]

Back at taekwondo for the second time, Hyemi, Yeongie, and all the other students were practicing with the advisor. After a while, the advisor was tired of teaching the newbies and she called Daehyun to come and teach the class. The advisor moved on to work with the more experienced students with their form. Like a big fool Hyemi always knew him as, he had no idea what to do or what to say and would always have a confused look on his face. Daehyun would lead the class by giving a command and then always ending his sentence with an ".. I think..". Hyemi would openly laugh at his stupidity and tried her best to interact with him as much as possible. Hyemi wanted everyone else in the class to know that she knew Daehyun personally and that no one else should interfere. But most of all, Hyemi wanted Daehyun to know that she still existed.

When Daehyun would give instructions, he would walk around  to each individual person, fixing their stances and telling them how they should do something. After seeing many people in a row do the stance incorrectly, Daehyun looked at Yeongie, pointed at her and said, "Do it like her!" Yeongie couldn't help but giggle. Not at the fact that Daehyun complimented her but at the fact that she was a fast learner. Hyemi would always tease Yeongie that she was a natural at taekwondo but others would laugh it off and say it's not true. But Hyemi just stared at Yeongie in jealousy, hoping that Daehyun would compliment her form as well, but by the time Daehyun got to her, he didn't even look twice. He seemed to be in a rush and he gave Hyemi the impression that he didn't care about her. All he said was "okay", waved his hand once, and walk away back to the front of the room.

After practice ended Hyemi and Yeongie waited together to take the bus home. They dont take the same bus but they wanted to wait together anyways. Daehyun had left a while ago to help the advisor put equipment back in the closet. Yeongie pulled out her phone and started to take pictures of herself and sending them to her friends about how much fun she was having at taekwondo. Hyemi spent this time looking at her friend, seeing why Daehyun paid so much more attention to Yeongie and not her.

Even though Yeongie and Daehyun went to middle school together, Hyemi thought *We're still both on friendship basis... Why does he pay more attention to her and not me?* Both of them were in a relationship so it felt too strange that Daehyun would like Hyemi and vice versa. *Its not strange to like someone else while you're in a relationship right? I hope Yeongie is committed to her boyfriend and not trying to get a new one*

A few minutes, Daehyun came back and without saying anything he began running around the room at full speed. Hyemi brought up her courage and asked Daehyun, "Why are you running around so much?"

He didnt answer right away and Hyemi just watched him run and he seemed as if he was sufferring at the same time. After running a few laps, Daehyun spoke through his pant, "I wanna try out for track. Tryouts are soon.. so if I make it on the I might not come back here anymore."

A pang of disappointment hit Hyemi. She didn't want to see him go but it wouldn't matter to Daehyun if Hyemi wasn't by his side anymore because they had no special connection in the first place. But Daehyun genuinely didn't know that Hyemi liked him, so there was nothing he could have possibly done about it. After a few minutes Daehyun finally stopped running. He turnred to Hyemi and Yeongie. "C'mon! Run with me!! I wanna see if I'm fast enough!"

As the happy and willing girl she is, Yeongie said yes but not being able to run, Hyemi just sat out and told Daehyun and Yeongie "Go without me". Yeongie had a history of being super athletic. Throughout the year she was obsessed witih her weight and would always go and exercise. She's also experienced in running which is why Hyemi was no match for Yeongie's sporty attitude.

But on the inside Hyemi's heart felt like it was about to burst. Nothing has yet to go the way she wanted.  Yeongie was bonding with Daehyun when it should've been her. Hyemi was the one that wanted to be with him. Sunny or no Sunny, it didn't make a difference to Hyemi. Hyemi had never even met Sunny in person before but she would have to be an amazing girl for Daehyun to not be phased by all the pretty girls in his own school. She watched them laugh and pant together and couldn't hold on her jealousy.

As if Hyemi wasn't jealous enough, Daehyun's back started hurting and he turned to Yeongie and asked her, "Can you massage it for me?" Yeongie didn't even know how to give a correct massage and all Daehyun told her was "Just punch my back, right here." Hyemi couldn't help but think to herself *I know how to give a massage.. If only you asked me I would give it to you.*

Hyemi turned away and stared at her fingers while Yeongie was massaging Daehyun and suddenly Yeongie suggested "Let's go look at the volleyball team!" Yeongie pulled Hyemi along with her and Daehyun trailed behind both of the girls. Yeongie, the preppy little girl stared through the gym doors and she talked and pointed out each boy on the team to Hyemi. Daehyun just stood in the back, looking at the walls, having nothing to say.

Out of no where, Yeongie started talking about how much she disliked her gym teachers in middle school. Daehyun joined into the conversation and since Hyemi didn't go to the same school as both of them, she just shrugged off to one side while Daehyun and Yeongie were in their own little world. *If I left, no one would even notice*

Hyemi couldn't take it... She didn't want to see Daehyun and Yeongie bond, so she looked at her watch and said, "Oh! It's time to go now. The buses will leave soon" What Hyemi DIDN'T know what that Daehyun and Yeongie took the same bus home while Hyemi lived in the opposite direction of both of them. While Yeongie happily waved and said goodbye to Hyemi, Daehyun laughed at Yeongie and mocked her goodbye to Hyemi. All she did was laugh at him. Her insides felt like they were about to turn to mush but that quickly disappeared when she saw Daehyun and Yeongie happily walk away together, laughing out loud. Hyemi watched them both disappear into the bus and she began to walk to  her own.
