Awkwardness

Opposites Attract

*Sunjung's POV*

You went to school as normally as any other day, but you still kept watch for Jae.

It's been a few days since he confessed to you and you rejected him, and he still hasn't come back to school.

You wondered if he moved again.

Sighing, you told yourself that you would visit him today with whoever wanted to go.

Walking into the classroom, you joined Ren and Nayoung.

"Annyeong," you smiled.

"Annyeong," Ren replied back, grinning.

"Oi, we should visit Jae today. I'm getting worried," Nayoung said.

Ren eyed you nervously, and you scratched the back of your head, looked down, and nodded.

"Yeah...I'm getting worried as well." you agreed.

"Well, if you two are coming, I'm coming too!" Ren declared.

You looked at him in surprise.

"Really?" Nayoung asked.

Ren nodded.

Suddenly, a warm, fuzzy feeling grew in your stomach.

"After school it is, then," Nayoung decided.

"Are we walking there?" you asked. "Cause I took the bus this morning. I wasn't in the mood for driving."

Nayoung groaned.

"The one day we need you to drive us somewhere, you don't have your car!" she said indignantly.

"Sorry," you laughed a bit, rolling your eyes. "You need the exercise anyways."

"Excuse yoooou," Nayoung pouted.

"Alright, alright," you smiled. "It'll be fun!"

Ren rolled his eyes.

"At least it's not a hundred degrees outside," you pouted.

"Ne, it's just in the tens right now," Ren teased.

"Pabo," you said. "Can't we just take the bus to his house?"

"Neeee, at least it's faster and warmer," Nayoung groaned.

The rest of the day went by quickly.

Finally, it was the end of the school day.

"Hurry, hurry, we're gonna miss the bus," Nayoung said, a little bit too excitedly.

She skipped as if she had never been on a bus before, and you and Ren barely managed to chase her.

"Which bus is it?" Ren looked at the buses curiously.
"Ah, this one," you said, pointing to one of the ones in the front. "I remember seeing Jae go into that one."

"Ah, really?" Ren tilted his head a bit, and watched Nayoung hop into it. "Oh, my goodness, she's so energetic."

"Yeah," you sighed. "She gets way too excited over things like this."

Ren nodded in agreement, huffing.

You, Nayoung, and Ren soon arrived at Jae's house.

Ren, you noticed, looked at it awkwardly, as if he wasn't supposed to be there.

You rubbed his arm gently to comfort him, and he smiled at you.

"Kamsahamnida," He touched your hand softly, and you blushed.

Removing your hand from his arm, you looked down, hoping you could disguise your face, as Ren scanned the whole exterior of the house.

"It looks really nice," he observed.
You nodded.

Nayoung rang the doorbell.

Jae's umma got the door.

"Oh, aish, it's you two," she grinned. "Annyeonghaseyo, welcome in!"

She saw Ren and tilted her head.

"Annyeonghaseyo, who are you?" she said in a friendly tone.

Ren smiled and replied, "Annyeonghaseyo, I'm Choi Minki, but you can call me Ren."
"Ah, are you one of Jaehwa's friends?" she asked.

He paused for a second and replied, "Ne,"

"Oh, welcome in, welcome in," Jae's umma let us in and we headed up the stairs to Jae's room.

"Jaaae, are you in there?" Nayoung knocked the door.

There was no response.

"Jae?" you said, worried.

Red knocked as well.

No response.

"Eemo, is Jae home?" you asked.

"Aish, he's been staying home all week," she called from downstairs.

You thought it was strange.

"Aigo, I can't take this anymore! Jae, I'm going in, whether you like it or not!" Nayoung irritably turned the knob and pushed open the door.

"What the-" Jae looked alarmed. "Young-ah? What are you doing here?"
His eyes were tired and he looked dishevled.

"You pabo, you! Do you know how worried I got? Do you know how worried Sunjung got?" Nayoung flared with fury. "I know you don't want to see her after she rejected you, but it's your dang fault for not asking her out in middle school!"

Her hands were balled into fists and she trembled.

"Young-ah-"
"No!" Nayoung shook her head. "Pabo!"

"Nayoung..." You took her shoulder gently, and rubbed her arm to calm her down.

"Oi, I didn't mean to worry you," Jae objected.

"Aish, of course you didn't," Ren joined me, rolling his eyes.

Jae shot him a look.

"Jae, just go back to school," you said. "It doesn't matter anymore, what happened was in the past."

Jae narrowed his eyes miserably.

"But...Sunjung," he said.
Ren looked at you two awkwardly, and suggested that he and Nayoung left you in peace with him.

"Don't listen through the door," you pouted.

"Ani~" Ren said in a singsongy voice as he walked out. "Stay safe,"

"Ne," you called as he shut the door gently, and when the tension finally settled down, you looked at Jae.

He sat on his bed, frowning.

"Are you still friends with him?" he asked.

You nodded shyly, blushing softly.

Jae rolled his eyes.

"What?" you pouted.

"I didn't give you up, just so you could stay friends with him," he said quietly, not daring to meet your gaze.

"Jae...," you slowly trailed off.

He looked up at you.

"It's okay. I'm fine now," he said, and flashed you a smile. "Renjung hwaiting~ I'll be supporting you from the lines,"

"Jae...," you said again, smiling. "Kamsahamnida."

You felt like that was the only word necessary.

You and Jae have been friends for so long that you didn't even have to say anything like; 'Kamsahamnida for being my friends blahblah.'

It wasn't like that.

You could just say a word, and he would know.
It worked with Nayoung as well.

"I'm waiting for the day when he and you get together," Jae smiled and gave you a wink.

You rolled your eyes.

"Pabo," you said.

There was a moment of silence before you spoke again.

"So are you going back to school?" you asked.

"Of course I am, stuuuupid," Jae teased.

"You're the stupid one," you said indignantly.

"Ani," Jae replied. "You are."

"Shut up," you pursed your lips, and Jae laughed at you.

"But seriously," he said quietly. "I'm over it already. All you need to worry about right now is getting his attention and making him yours."

"Jae, you're a good friend," you smiled, hugging him once, before going out his door, and leaving his house with Ren and Nayoung.
