20. I'd Die
Love Like This
[December 2011]
The night was chilly and now, we’re going to another party. I honestly hated going to places that smelled like liquor and loud music but tonight, it was different. It seemed as if we’re attending a formal dinner. Yes, there were liquor but the music’s not that head hurting and the smell’s wasn’t that nauseating. It definitely felt better.
‘My wife, Jihyun.’ Those were the only words that Woohyun said to people whom we bumped into. People who’re the same like him.
But suddenly, he stopped and turned to me. His face told me that he’s feeling anxious.
‘Jihyun-ah, go and grab something to eat, okay? I’ll be back.’ He left me at the middle of the hall in a hurry. Somehow, I felt insecure. He left me with this bunch of people. Again, I felt alone and alienated.
My gaze followed his figure as he walked quickly towards some people not far from where I was. There’s Kibum. Wow, they’re really good friends when I saw the way they greeted each other. But then, I saw him, hugging a pretty woman beside his friend that I felt somewhat curious. Clad in an elegant grey dress that went down to her knees and wearing a pair of pink framed glasses, I was a bit taken aback when I saw them hugged as if they’d known each other for the longest time.
An undeniable pain struck my chest as I turned around to the banquet table. I knew I did it because I hated that sight.
My hand picked a pink cupcake with a red cherry on top and without thinking too much, I stuffed everything into my mouth. My mind was thinking of question on why Woohyun wouldn’t introduce me to that lady when he coolly did introduce me to his other friends earlier.
Who really was she?
When I was busy thinking, I could suddenly felt a hand grabbing my wrist and pulled me to one of the doors which led us outside of the hall. I couldn’t deny that I was so startled and scared but I couldn’t do anything as everything happened so fast. All I could do was to walk and follow the man to somewhere even I didn’t know.
I couldn’t see his face but I knew this silhouette, looking at his back. He’s wearing a white suit but still, I could recognize him. But no, it’s impossible.
Until we stopped and he turned to face me.
I was right. It’s Hyungsik Oppa.
