I Believe In You

His Glue

"Here." Kai groggily looked up to see a small, yellow envelope being pushed into his face by Sehun, who seemed to be smiling brighter with each day.

"What?" He croaked in response, sitting up a bit straigter in his seat, wiping a bit of drool from the corner of his mouth. He eyed the note with confusion and suspicion before taking it into his hands. But before he could even ask who this was from, Sehun spun on his heels, striding towards the doorway with purpose. "Wait Sehun, wha-"

"My lips are sealed!~" Sehun gave one last look back at Kai, a knowing smirk on his face before mumbling to himself, "It's time you stepped it up, Do Kyungsoo."

-   -   -   -   -

His hands shook as he handed the card to Luhan, the tiredness still on his features.

"L-luhan, I finished, but could you g-give it to Sehun?" Kyungsoo stammered, obviously very nervous.

"To...Sehun?" Luhan was confused. Why would Kyungsoo be giving a note to Sehun? Did they even know each other? Or was it a confession? Oh god, it must be a confe-

"Would you? I m-mean, I know your t-talk with him the other d-day went well, right? S-so I was hoping you could ask Sehun to give this to Kai..." And suddenly Luhan understood, surprised by how frantic his thoughts became just previously. "B-but you obviously don't have to if you don't want! I mean, I could a-ask someone else to t-talk to S-sehu-"

"No! I'll do it!" And the envelope was quickly snatched from Kyungsoo's hands. "I'll do it now!" He spun on his heels and walked away from Kyungsoo and toward his classroom of interest, leaving the wide-eyed boy a bit shocked and confused.

"O-okay...Thanks again!" Kyungsoo managed to call out after recovering, watching the blonde's figure turn the corner with hurried footsteps.

-   -   -   -   -

Kai eyed the note with confusion, still slightly stunned when Sehun turned to leave the classroom so purposefully when he usually sat at his desk staring forward during their breaks. Eyebrows furrowed, he slipped a finger under the bright paper to pull open the envelope. Another equally bright yellow card stuck out and the front image had a cute image of a smiling sun. Kai tilted his head, thinking to himself before opening the note, thinking it would be yet another confession letter.

Hello Kai-ssi!

I've noticed you've been really tired lately, and I'm worried for you.

No! I mean, not like in a creepy way or anything!

I mean, oh-...you probably think I'm some kind of stalker now...

I'm really not though! Trust me!

Just, please eat right and even if you think nothing's going right, please don't give up.

And here's one of my favorite quotes. Maybe it can help you too.

"Success can be measured not only in achievements, but in lessons learned, lives touched, and moments shared along the way."

So don't give up! Even if you find these notes strange or weird, take care of yourself!

I believe in you!

-Your lunch box maker

Kai found himself smiling and chuckling throughout the note, and gave it one more read after seeing the source.
"Lunch box maker..." He whispered to himself, amusedly shaking his head, "I knew I recognized this handwriting."

And So, Kai realized how poorly he was taking care of himself and made sure to eat properly and sleep enough. Though it didn't feel like he was doing it for himself. It felt like he was doing it all for someone else, though he hadn't quite realized that part yet.

-   -   -   -   -

Luhan held the envelope with shaky hands as he stood outside the classroom door. Thinking back, he wasn't quite sure why had so spontaneously agreed to do this for Kyungsoo. But the very idea of someone else talking to Sehun made him feel possessive, though the other wasn't even his. And Luhan tried his best to shake that thought away, because he knew that having someone like Sehun was impossible. Him, a regular student with average grades, with a Kingka practically excelling in every subject? It just wasn't realistic. And Luhan's never really believed in fairytales. He found it all just a bit too absurd.

And little did he know, a pair of eyes have been watching him through the window. Sehun saw Luhan walk up, but stop right before the doorway. In fact, Luhan seemed so lost in thought that Sehun had been staring for several minutes without the blonde even noticing.

And Oh Sehun couldn't help but chuckle. The expressions that crossed Luhan's face were just too adorable, and he was as easy to read as a book. And without thinking, the Kingka got up and left the classroom, stopping just short of the blonde. And still, he wasn't noticed.

There was an amused expression on the taller's face before he bent down and leaned closer, now on the same level as the blonde's face, though Luhan's gaze was trained on the note he held in his hands.

"Boo."

"Ah!" Luhan shrieked in surprise, jumping back. His eyes widened seeing the Kingka in front of him, struggling to speak even though he had recited the practiced words over and over in his head on the walk over. 'Hi, I'm Luhan. I spoke to you the other day, and this is a note my friend wanted to give to Kai. I was hoping you could pass it on? Thanks!"

But all that came out was a choked silence as Sehun chuckled, eyes even crinkling slightly.

"Hi there, Luhan."

"H-hi." And his jaw almost dropped again hearing that beautiful voice speak his name.

"What's this?" Sehun plucked the bright envelope out of Luhan's hands, examining it. It didn't looke like a confession, but a simple note. He already knew who this was for without reading the neat handwriting on the front that addressed, 'To Kim Jongin'. And with a little wink, Sehun turned into the classroom. "I'll give it to him. Wait for me here, okay?"

-   -   -   -   -

Luhan blinked once, twice, and three times. His feet were rooted to the ground. Even if his mind told him to run from embarrassment because oh god he just froze in front of his long time crush and his face must be flaming and Sehun must think he's some sort of crazy lunatic that obsesses like the other fangirls and-

"Are you okay?" Sehun was back sooner than the blonde anticipated, and that voice brought shivers down his spine. And just looking at his face made Luhan's cheeks heat up more than they already were. The way his white teeth perfectly shown past his lips, the way his hair seemed to fall just perfectly made Luhan blush with just one look. And he weakly nodded in response, finally managing to formulate coherent words.

"Y-yeah, I'm perfectly fine! A-and thanks! You know, for the note." And Luhan turned to leave after bowing, wishing the blush to go away. Sehun chuckled, waving a single hand. The flustered blonde never failed to amuse him, and he hoped to see the doe-eyed boy again.

-   -   -   -   -

The notes kept coming. At first, they were sent just once a week. And then two times a week. And then three, and four, and then five. A note was sent to Kai on every school day. And each day became more and more enjoyable for Kai. He couldn't wait for Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. And each day, the note would be in a different color. First, yellow, then purple, then blue, and red, and orange, and- Kai didn't even know they made so many colored cards.

And if there were so many cards to be delivered, there were many more interactions between a certain Kingka and blonde student.

"Hi, Luhan." It was routine now, and Luhan found himself being flustered less and less, though the feelings were just as strong, if not even stronger than before.

"Hi, Sehun." He could even speak without a hint of nervousness as he handed the note. It was black this time. And with a nod, Sehun delivered it before coming immediately back out to chat with the blonde that intruguied him to no end.

Somewhere along the way, they  had become aquaintances, and then friends. They had exchanged phone numbers, and texted each other practically on a daily basis. And both their smiles seemed brighter than ever before, they both found it harder and harder to stop talking and go to class before they were scolded.

-   -   -   -   -

Kai smiled widely as the note landed on his desk and didn't hesitate to open it up, but this time, he didn't rip it. He carefully slipped a finger under the tab and gently broke the adhesive seal. He had started to keep each note he received, though he never thought about 'why' he did. Chanyeol and Sehun had asked him before, but his only excuse was, 'I like the quotes. They're inspiring.'

And by this point, Kai was already healthy again. He was dancing again, eating the food that never failed to be missing every Thursday, and he was content. He smiled and laughed like he always did reading the note. The words never failed to cheer him up, but he couldn't help but wonder who had written such beautiful, meaningful words to him. He couldn't help but wonder how it would feel hearing the author's voice speak the words to him. But as the bell rang, Kai carefully stowed the card away. Those thoughts could wait.

-   -   -   -   -

Kyungsoo knew he was determined. He always knew that giving up was something he would never do. And that's why he didn't give up on Kai, at least, that's his reason. So as Luhan told him the good news, Kyungsoo's face brightened, knowing his note would be received.

And as he watched Kai get better, he got better as well. His attraction was obvious, though he himself was oblivious. Even Chanyeol, who had been clinging to Baekhyun almost 24/7 (and Baekhyun never failed to get irritated) had noticed, though his attention rarely drifted away from Baekhyun.

And if Chanyeol noticed, so did everybody else. And Joonmyeon noticed, and he felt a little pang in his chest. The object of his current affection was already infatuated. Do Kyungsoo was infatuated with a Kingka he could never compete with.

Kyungsoo made Kai lunches almost religiously. Yes, Kyungsoo made him lunch as well, but it was for all of them. It wasn't special. It had no deeper feelings other than friendship.

And that was the time Joonmyeon realized how foolishly in love he was with Kyungsoo. And that was also the time he couldn't make a decision. Yes, he was sad that Kyungsoo obviously would never return the feelings, but he was happy. Happy that Kyungsoo seemed to be regaining his own health, though it was  clear that the wide eyed boy's health directly corresponded to the health of a popular Kingka.

It was clear that whenever Kai's health deteriorated, Kyungsoo's would as well. In fact, as Kai seemed to grow sick and lose weight, Kyungsoo did as well. And as Kai seemed to regain his strength and energy, Kyungsoo did as well.

Though Joonmyeon couldn't help but feel sorry for himself, being the kind person he was, he cared for others first. So he worried over all his friends, but mostly, Kyungsoo.

But Joonmyeon's dissapointment vanished in an instant seeing Kyungsoo smile again, the color returing to his face. Kyungsoo was happier this way, and that's what mattered first. That's what always mattered first, and always will matter first.
