Kai POV

*

Lu Qian was an older and mature version of Luhan, born as a six feet tall man with lean but muscled body. The first time I met with him, I could tell how beautiful he was from his long, pinkish red hair which was tied neatly and a doll-like face which was radiating the innocence and purity even though the man was covered with sweat and dirt from the hard work.

“Brother!” Luhan cried out running and hugging the man the time we arrived at the evacuation site where Lu Qian helped the remain of citizens building barracks along with other scholars.

“Hannie, what are you doing here?!” the man asked in shock when he got strangled by now sobbing Luhan.

I watched their drama from a distance, could only freeze at the similarity in between Luhan and his brother. Even the voice was the same; it made Chen who was standing next to me joked, “it’s too bad. Doll shouldn’t be born with ” he chuckled lightly while eyeing the scholar.

I held an urge to throw an encouraging comment like, ‘you know, even with he’s still pretty,’ cause Chen won’t ever be interested in men and I prefer him stayed like that, for the safety of all pretty doll in this universe. It was better if I said something else, like, thanking him for helping us finding Lu Qian’s whereabouts.

As Luhan and his brother talked with each other, the younger pointed at me, making the older took a glance at my direction. I straightened my back when I could feel his sharp and fierce gaze, judging me and in the same way, I took a small note about him too. A while later, as we reached the understanding to each other personality, the staring contest in between us finally dismissed and he smiled gently, nodded at me in a silent acknowledgement.

I tried not to look too happy for that but it was hard not too, seeing Luhan laughing and squealing while telling his brother the adventure he went to find the older. However, when Luhan mentioned about Shield, I saw Lu Qian stilled. He took the Shield from Luhan with a slightly trembled hand and his eyes never left the device as Luhan passed the message from their Master.

“What’s wrong, Scholar?” His expression grew a curiosity in me so when Lu Qian’s friend helped leading Luhan to the cafeteria, I asked Lu Qian in person. “Did the shield not working?” I pointed at the white device in his palm before I looked at his face.

He turned to see me, somehow his expression became restless but he tried to cover it with a small smile, “no, it was working properly. No need to worry, Storm Rider.” He said in soft tone, “Just…”

He looked at the shield again. I wonder if he was just like Luhan, could easily blaming himself from the mistake he didn’t do but he believed he could prevent it to happen if he manage to control the time. I wanted to be nice and patted his back in comforting way but then I reminded myself he’s not Luhan and I don’t think he’ll appreciate it to be touched by a stranger.

“I didn’t thank you yet.” He said thoughtfully, “You know, from helping my brother with his journey and even protect him. Thank you so much, Storm Rider. I guess I could trust you to get him back into Mariposa.”

I couldn’t help but chuckled a bit cocky, “I guess so.”

He stared at me intently somehow it made my smile faltered into frown. There’s really something wrong in his mind, and I simply prayed he didn’t find out if sometimes I’m having naughty imagination about his little brother. I’m not only having dirty intention to Luhan. I wanted him, love him and since my confession last night, I decided to make Luhan loved me and want me so he didn’t have to choose to be a priest, when the time comes. He could be a real man, woman, I don’t even care if he’s still gender-less it wouldn’t lessen any love I’ve had for him.

“Rider,” When the Scholar called me I snapped from my own thought and listened to him.

“Do you know what kind of bomb The Machine used to make?” His next sentence began with a heavy sigh. His eyes fell down to the device in his hand, continued his story when I only gave him blank stare, “they kidnapped a scholar and planted the bomb inside the heart. Then, they dumped the poor scholar back into the town with no memory and no idea they were bringing the deadly weapon which could kill the entire city.” Suddenly I feel cold around my body, when I saw him grabbed the shield with hate, “this, what our Master called Shield was actually the trigger to the explosion, just let it be near the bomb-bearer and it will explode within second…” his anger which was gritted in between his teeth reached my heart and set me on fire, “and Master…” the device cracked in between his clenched palm, turning into the scrap of junk, “he dared sending Luhan to bring the trigger here…”

My body was steaming hot with fury now I realize what was truly happened. This is a trap. “Your master, he did it in purpose?” My voice dropped into a low growl, imagining the alternative future when I don’t travel with the train and I don’t meet Luhan, hence saving him from the explosion.

‘I’ve come to see my brother. I want to give him something. A gift and a warning.’

“I don’t know.” Lu Qian shook his head. The remains of Shield was falling down, neglected in front of his feet. “Before, he’s not someone like this. He was more like your kind, a warrior who disagree with evils which enslaving the humanity. He won’t hurt innocent people like blowing  the entire city up and using my little brother to activate the bomb.”

“Probably peace was boring him out.” I found myself grumbled in displease, while getting up and prepare my ride.

“Wait, where are you going?” Lu Qian asked.

“Mariposa.” I climbed onto my storm ride, “I will take a visit to your Master, probably he could explain it himself, what kind of bull he had in his brain.”

But, before I could even start the bike, Luhan stormed his way out of cafeteria while shouting so loud, I think half of this World trembling and groaning in pain at hearing his voice.

“KAAAAAAAAAAAAI! DON’T YOU DARE SNEAKING OUT FROM MEEEEEE!” I feel my body suffocated by my name escaped from his lips, I don’t know why the spirit of wind trying to strangle me, keeping me still from moving. Then I saw Luhan was still wearing the wind-bond so practically now I’m under his control.

Damn.

“What?” I grunted back when he finally arrived near me, “I’m busy right now, Luhan, so could you please, let me go.” It’s easy to put the wind bond but it’s hard to dismiss the contract except Luhan wanted it to be released too, and I’m afraid he won’t let me go if I explained to him where I head to. Or the worse, he forced me to take him along.

“Where are you going?” His voice was lowered but still full with order and I had to answer it with the truth or the wind bond will keep suffocated me until I lost my conscious.

“Luhan, calm down.” Lu Qian tried to help me by holding both Luhan’s shoulder just so the boy stopped being anxious and unrestricted the bond in between us. I admit it was very clever of him to feel aware with the situation, without letting Luhan knew the boy could control my power, even against me. I’m sure if Luhan knew, in the future, I’ll be stumbled being controlled by him more often than I’ve ever imagined. “The Storm Rider had an emergency call. He needs to do his duty.” The older eyes met mine.

“Right,” I read his sign and immediately backed up his story, “Luhan, please I need to-…” unfortunately, before I could even finish my words, I smell the sand on the wind and my body turned paralyze at what was going to happen. My anxiety answered by the sound of people cried out in fear, screaming the similar words from one to another in resonance with the loud growls coming from the dessert,

“It’s a pack of beast!”

“Take cover!”

“Okay Luhan,” I muttered with a shaky voice. It’s not a right time to investigate about the incident in this city. I should make sure Luhan was safe first. “We’re going together, let’s go.”

In an instance, the restrain disappeared around me and as soon as I could control my body again I put Luhan on my lap. Before I headed off to safety, I took a glance at Lu Qian who immediately responded with, “Just go! We’ll be okay!”

“Brother!” Luhan whined but he held onto me as we’re surrounded by fog and disappeared into the sky. He’s still looking down, familiarized with the similar situation but now there’s not only one but it’s a pack of beast which raced to catch us for Only God knows why. They might be a cruel race but they didn’t have enough brain for wanting revenge so probably they came after us for something else.

“Kai, they’re close…” he sobbed into my chest.  I could feel his body shivered in fear so I tried to call Chen, or anyone near who could help us. Right now there are three beasts in a close range to my ride and I’m having a guest on my ride so I shouldn’t fight with innocent under my protection. The risk of losing Luhan was high when I’m engaged into a battle and I definitely didn’t want to repeat the same mistake like before. I promise myself that I won’t lose the one I loved ever again so I summoned the sky map, trying to find the fastest route to my guild.

“It’s okay, I’ll protect you.” I dipped my face into his hair, inhaling his honey-like scent to give me more strength, then I sped up, tricking the beast by travelling from cloud to cloud and getting high and higher until the sky getting darker and the temperature around us dropped. Luhan was saved from getting frozen but the lack of air made my ride gradually lost its speed.

“We’re slowing down.” Luhan breathed the words out, his face cringed upon seeing at the aerial sight of earth surface which became nothing but scratch of green and blue contours. “Where are we going?” he asked while looking back at me.

“Clover Field.” I answered in between unsteady breath. Getting this high at the speed of light won’t kill any rider but sure it will drain our energy faster. At this rate, I’m afraid we won’t get there in time. “It’s Storm Riders home land, beyond the Nautilius Sea and upon the North Mountain. If we could make it there, High Land Rule will protect us from any beast.”

High Land was a place for Spirit to live. In this place, natural force was the most powerful than anywhere in the World. Thousands years ago, my ancestor came as mere human, but because he tried to protect his family from the beast, the Spirit of Nature Force blessed him and helped him fight back by creating a hurricane. Since then, every first born from any race who resided in this mountain became a storm rider and bearing a contract with the Spirit. In exchange of their great power, they had responsibility to protect the earth from any harm, or they’ll be marked as a Sinner and disappeared from this world.

Just like Sehun.

I don’t like it when I had to think about him that way, but Spirit knew what was right and wrong and I think, being in love with the Heart of Machine wasn’t really a right thing to do.

My ride stopped abruptly.

“What’s happen?” Luhan asked in panic.

I cleared my dry throat, “I’m sorry Luhan but I think this is as far as we could go.”

I looked around, scanned the earth below for any Sky Walk, the hovering district (usually at big cities) which was used to deal with the massive population and the shortage of land. Fortunately, we’re still near Metropolis so there’s a few under us, “let’s hide in Sky Walk.” I told Luhan while getting out from the outer sky layer, “I need some hours to rest.”

Luhan was still tensed but reluctantly he nodded. I tried to smile to make him feel better but apparently my face got numb too from the loss of energy. I started losing my grip, and I went down faster, in hope we’re not going to crash landing. We’re not, thankfully, but as soon as we’re near the ground my ride disappeared and turned back into bracelet, making us fell in the middle of plaza, I was on my back and Luhan was on the top of me, whining in pain.

“Ouch!”

“Are you okay?” I helped Luhan to stand on his feet again. Citizens around the plaza gave us strange look, but it only for a moment before they went back to their own business. When I made sure Luhan was not hurting, we blended into the crowd, tried to hide ourselves in case the beasts still after us.

“Come on.” I grabbed Luhan by his arm, “let’s find a place to hide.”

“And eat.” Luhan stopped walking and when I saw him, he pouted at my direction, “your face was so pale, Kai.” said him in a grunt.

I couldn’t help but smile to see him finally get over his fear and went back to his old, grumpy self. His words also reminded me how drained I am, so I let go his arm just to find his warm fingers entangling with mine, “yes, let’s find something to eat too.”

It’s weird that no matter how dangerous the situation we had to face, every time I’m with him I could always be in peace.

“What’s wrong with this place?” Luhan asked me, when we’re sitting next to each other on a red love seat at small bedroom. After we filled our stomach, I insisted that we stayed at public place and a famous Night Club in this district was Luhan’s choice of hiding. It’s actually a good place to hide Luhan scent from any beast, but the mixed smell in between alcohol and strong fragrance of around the dance floor also brought nausea to my head so we retreated to the upper floor, and booked a room.

“Nothing. It’s just a bedroom.” For someone who was so bold to choose this place, it’s so cute of Luhan to have no clue about what’s going on here. So I smiled at his clueless face, wondering if he felt the atmosphere around this room in the same way I did, before my eyes dropped, looking at his crotch.

Now it was clear that he wasn’t having anything down there, I tried to relax myself and decided to rest my head on the top of his lap. Hmm, his thighs was skinny but apparently so soft and comfy, I thought, ignoring him who yelped in surprise. Thankfully, he didn’t reject me, only looked down with his deer-like eyes and face burned with red, “why are you sleeping on me?!” he’s still whining so cutely it sounded like a lullaby, “there are pillows over there!” he pointed at the round bed covered by frilly sheets and filled with love-shaped pink pillows.

I smirked at him, “but you’re a better pillow for me.”

“Don’t play with me.” Luhan hissed angrily, “If you’re tired, just sleep on the bed!”

“Trust me, baby, we don’t want to get near to that bed.” I laughed as the fatigue finally caught my guard down and Luhan’s voice keep persuading me to close my now heavy eyes. I tucked my head into his crotch, inhaling again the sweetness he had around him. It’s a nice scent I’ve never found before and it’s also addicting I feel understand why the Beast wanted android as their meal.

“People used it not for sleep.” I added.

“Just shut up.” Luhan’s answer made me smile so wide even when I was drifting into sleep. I really wanted to open my eyes just to see his reaction over my words. Maybe he’ll finally get the clue from that, but maybe he won’t. I don’t want to set a high hope, besides if things went out well in between us, I still don’t know how exactly this love making will process with Luhan being umm… incomplete.

I guess there’s still time to figure it out.

It felt like just a minute later when I woke up on the floor. Covered by the thick blanket, I still could feel the warmth and the unique scent of Luhan lingering around my head. I ran my hand around my pillow which was strangely shaped in legs and found something like plump buttock at the back. My curiosity grew, as I mapped to the front. My eyes immediately shot open and my heart raced wildly cause I actually was still sleeping on Luhan’s lap, now trying to find the body which was disappeared into the cover. My throat felt dry, as I opened the cover just to find Luhan slept in reversal position in front of me, a pillow was settled under his head but his face was buried into my stomach.

What a beautiful sight.

I took a moment in peace, watching Luhan sleeping calmly. My hand raised and unconsciously caressed his pale face, before I brushed his hair gently, enjoying being this close to him despite the strangeness I’ve caught from this position.

“Luhan.”

Still brushing his blond hair, I called his name softly. He stirred and turned his head away from me, but not giving any sign of awakening, only moved his legs and trapped my face into his crotch. Okay, this is cute but I can’t breathe with him grinding his tights on my nose, so I grabbed his legs and released my head from them. I sat up abruptly and tried to keep myself calm when he whined at the loss of contact. It made me wonder if he was experiencing morning heat too just like a real boy.

“Hey, wake up.” I patted his shoulder, “we need to go.”

He whined again, “I’m sleepy.” He muttered, “Can we wait until morning?”

“It’s already morning, my love.” I got up on my feet and put on my jacket and boots, “come on, we need to be arrived to Clover Field before the beast find us.” When he gave no sign of waking up, I grabbed him by the waist and carried him on my shoulder.

“Put me down!” He grumbled in protest, “at least let me have a pee!”

“Later, ok.” Ignoring the question floating inside my head about how exactly Luhan’s excretion system, I marched with him to the nearest exit and then I summoned my ride and placed Luhan in front of me. When I started the engine and we’re flying up, I saw him still glaring harshly towards me, but it drew a smile on my lips when he wrapped his arms around my waist tightly.

“I hate you.”

“You don’t even know what ‘hate’ is.” I replied calmly, “probably you’ve mistaken it with ‘love’.”

Luhan didn’t answer and I let him be, cause now, I needed to focus bringing him to the land of peace. There will be many questions to be asked, there will be an incident to be investigated and there’s an Android who had to choose for his future. At least, in Clover Field Luhan will be saved from any beast which chased him and I could go to do my next mission after leaving Luhan with my family, without feeling worry if something bad would happen to him.

“I don’t want to go to your home.” As we passed through the Nautilius Sea, Luhan suddenly murmured, “You’ll leave me alone in there.” My heart clenched in discomfort at hearing the hint of disappointment in his tone. I was afraid to ask why he had to. We're both still strangers until a few days ago. I could only hoped that he cared me enough to hate it if he’ll be away from me.

“I will never leave you, Luhan.” I lied, cause I don't know how long my investigation will take time. The worst, I found my death in the enemy's hand.

“Then promise me.” He said it in an order and my body jerked in response. It’s a very simple word but it also tied me into another contract so if I made a fake promise I’ll be damned for the eternity. So I shook my head, and looked at the sky route in front of us with a bitter heart. I refused to see Luhan, knowing he’ll be upset with my decision. It’s not mature to promise him without thinking about the future. He might be not aware of it, but since I heard Tao’s story back in the Sand Globe, I can’t stop thinking about a certain sentence even when I tried hard to forget it.

‘No matter how she tried, she couldn’t love him back…’

“I can’t promise you anything for now, Luhan.” I said it with a grief, cause deep in me, I know he couldn’t make sure to promise me forever too. “I’m sorry.”

Luhan averted his gaze, refused to look at me. I know he was hurting with my rejection. I wanted to say sorry, wanted to stop moving and hugged him small figure, keep saying sorry until he showed me his beautiful smile and breathless laugh again. I wanted to tell him to understand that love in between us was still young and probably if I’m away for a while, our love will grow bigger and our bond will become stronger.

When we’re arrived on Clover Field, I reported my arrival to the front gate post with Luhan followed behind me, his hand still entwined with mine even though he said nothing to me. When I looked at him, his eyes s around the city, fascinated with the strange surroundings. In this place, the plants were alive and speaking. Instead having buildings around, there are only Giant Trees filling the street, each was big and tall with their leaves so wide it covered the ground under from too much having sun light. These Trees was the oldest protector of the Spirit. They witnessed it when the earth growing and tell the children the tales of the past while swinging and humming the Forest Melody.

This place is a magical land, where we used bushes to pass messages and news and even gossip, where the flower sang their heart out to attract the passerby and probably give them a tip of fresh water or a kiss.  I wanted to tell Luhan but I’m afraid he’ll already know that.

“This is my house.” I stopped at a tree and knocked.

Huh? Who’s that?’ The deep oldman voice seeped through the tree, making Luhan stepped close behind me, hiding his body in worry. I feel myself smiling in amusement, when I wrapped my hand around his trembling shoulder and pulled him into my chest.

“Old Oakwood,” I introduced the old tree to Luhan, before I looked up, “Oldman, it’s me, Smoky. I’m home.”

‘Oh, the oldest of Kim, the Smoke Rider. I saw you’re not going home alone today. Hmm, what a nice guest.’ Luhan looked around in panic, probably expecting an eye plopping out of from somewhere, ‘a priest to pray for my health, perhaps?’

“Not a priest.” I tucked Luhan even closer into my chest, “he’s a very precious friend to me.”

Suddenly an eye really appeared in front of us, making Luhan screamed in despair and struggling from my embrace but I keep him still, my mouth was so itchy to laugh but I tried not too, judging at where Luhan was from, he probably taking too much shock from the difference between our home towns.

‘Very well, you can pass.’ The eye disappeared in exchange of a tree branch. I sat on the branch, with Luhan shivering in fear on my lap, before the branch lifted us upward and sending the loud shrill from Luhan to be heard to the entire city. He cried out my name, cursing the branch and even doing so far by praying when he looked down and realized the ground was too far for us to go back.

The branch stopped at the top of tree, where we arrived at my house. Finally, he could breathe again when we landed on a soft and green leaf which was as thick and layered as the earth itself. Around us, tree houses resided on the top of leaves from variant height. My house was placed among with the tallest tree so we could see the entire city from here.

“So beautiful…” he muttered under his breath when we took a moment sitting at the edge of leaf, “it’s like the tree was covering the whole world instead a city.” A smile slowly appeared on his face again, when he looked up at the sky, “and the sky was so close, I can touch it.” He raised both his hands, trying to squeeze the sky with his small palms while squealing happily. It made me looked at him in awe, feeling the joy from his never-ended cheerfulness. It only lasted for a second though, cause my smile faltered when he took a glance at me and the bitter memory we experienced on our way here rushed up into my mind again.

“Listen, about before…” I tried to explain more, but Luhan cut my words.

“You know, Kai.” he sighed, “I’m sorry.”

Huh?

“Before I wasn’t thinking right, maybe because I’m just wake up and I’m always pissed when I wake up.” he started with a dry laugh, but when I don’t have intention to laugh along with him, he bit his bottom lips and continued, “I should know not to engage you into something dangerous like ‘promising’ but at that time I keep thinking you’ll bring me here to leave me by myself, forever, and it made me furious and also confused why I had to feel so angry with you.”

Oh, Luhan. If only I could tell him it was love, and he already love me without even he realized it but then it will be a waste. The only way for him to know what happen with his body was to learn it by himself, experiencing the colorful taste to love and beloved, that’s why I could only caressed his face and placed a gently kiss on his forehead.

“Luhan, if I leave you here, it’s because I love you and I only want you to be safe, at least until I’ve come back from my duty.” I said to him, “so it’s not forever.”

He gasped when my lips leaving his skin, “don’t go.” He whispered breathlessly. I could sense the storm coming from inside him, and he tried to fight the urge back even though his entire body was shaking violently when he grabbed onto my jacket, “I don’t know how to love, Kai, but I know one thing, I don’t want to be away from you.”

It’s a very tempting offer.

“Please…” He threw me such an irresistible pleading gaze I think it’s not fair cause my heart already close to crush seeing him this miserable because of me, “I know what you’re afraid of. You scared if there’s no future for us, that’s why you didn’t want to promise me,” I couldn’t deny it so I just looked away, but he touched my jaw and make me looked at him again, “promise me the future, Kai, I’ll promise you my love.”

I don’t know if the wind bond involved in this but my body reacted just like he ordered me to. I promised him my future together with him and sealing the bond in between us by leaning in to kiss him. In an instant I knew this boy was destined to be mine, just like how we destined to meet at the train.

“Kai…!”

He whined in between our kiss, complained at how sudden it was to happen and how it became so beastly and brutal instead being tender and loving. I do want to control myself and kissed him properly cause he deserved a special first kiss but all I gave him was a nasty smirk and both strong hands which grabbed the front of his t-shirt and tearing them into pieces.

“Luhan.” I kissed him again, occupied his inexperience mouth with my tongue while my hands brought his hips onto my lap, “Luhan let’s make love.” I laughed when he gave me a confused look, “I’ll make love to you and make you mine.”

I still didn't know how but I don’t care anymore.
