When You're Here

A/N: Lately I was thinking to make this kind of story, so I made sample and wished if my beloved readers will give me aspiring advices. There's a bit of SeKai bromance, and I'm sorry if my story was confusing. Enjoy reading ^^

Kai POV

*

This kind of story was ridiculous, but it truly happened to me. It began when I met Sehun, a few years ago in the middle of war at Dessert City. Younger than me but he’s a lone rider who ride sandstorm beast and annihilated almost all Machine Warrior and saved the city. As a Storm Rider, I asked him to join my team, and since then, we became friends.  I love him and I would like he stayed close to me because we shared secrets and vows to keep each other back safe. We even had a silly dream, when the war against the Machine had ended and the world went back into peace, we will build a house nearby to each other, find our own wife to marry and have a plenty of children so we can teach them about the meaning of love and bonds in between Riders.

On June last year, Sehun fell from his Storm Ride, straight into the dark ocean to save Dio, the Heart of Machine and also the owner of his heart. I witnessed how the Machine crumbled into pieces due to the loss of its source of power, turning into nothing aside ruins. Deep in my mind I keep melting, dusting, with tears dried by the wind. I’m not mourning over Sehun’s disappearance, I was crying out a broken heart knowing Sehun choose a machine over our bonds.

Months passed with dreams that he would come back. somehow I even had illusion of him knocking the door to our house, and when I opened it, he will smile sheepishly while saying, ‘hey, umm, I’m back.’ like he just gone for buying groceries or hung out in Chanyeol’s garage. But I had to face the reality. I’m all alone despite the crowds of cheering human around me, celebrating the freedom they long for years.

“I hope you to rest in peace, Sehun…” I stared at the sea, when I took a visit at beach near my house, a can of beer raised to the sky, in hope the wind catch the scent and the pray I sent to my dearest friend, “wherever you are…”

I took a sip before I poured the rest of liquor into the ocean. To my friend who didn’t get old enough to taste this drink, even though he disliked the smell and always nagging at me every time I got drunk. Half of me wanted to die with him, but I knew it was a foolish thought.

I came here to say goodbye.

I finally get over him, finally move on and get used with loneliness. Now when the war was over, riders dismissed from their duty and they went back on the road, travelling around the world. I was ready to prepare for my next journey when the fate brought him right across me. I was in an Express Train on the way to the Eastern City and for some time, I could only freeze at seeing the sleeping boy in front of me. He had pinkish blond hair hiding under his black cap. His head tucked down but his face was still shown, which was sending chills upon my back spine.

Similar face.  Different person. I know this kind of thing ought to happen, but I don’t think such similarity would be stuck in the same place and giving me a second chance to make a new bond. To fall in love, again. No, I might be moving on with Sehun but I don’t give up loving him and I won’t definitely use a dummy to pretend he’s still alive, still beside me. But a little piece of me said, perhaps I could give it a try.

Perhaps, I swallowed a big gulp when I saw him stirred and opened his eyes. He’s different, I keep telling myself, now as the face raised and I could see it clearly, it was certainly a different person. Just, my heart started to race wildly for this stranger sharing place a compartment with me.

This boy was beautiful, too beautiful that I found my body trembled when he stared at me with his honey colored eyes, probably it’ll taste as sweet at his existence. His lips were thin yet pouty, as he mouthed a silent gasp towards my presence. His feature was soft and fragile, like he didn’t belong into this world. His age probably around me, but usually we boys had determined figure, lean though muscled because we had to face rough days during the war. His image seems blurred in between boy and girl, like someone shaped him in both masculine and delicate way.

We drifted into a judging stare as the time passed. My body tensed over my seat, even I missed my exit cause I was too caught looking at him.

“Do I know you?”

His voice was just like his appearance, soft and alluring, as he smiled a bit while hugging a white stuffed animal close to his chest. I cringed at the thought Sehun would bring a plush around, acting cute and bubbly just not fit to my friend’s image.

“No.” I murmured, a bit surprised at how interested I sounded like. I even returned his smile, probably in a nasty way I found his face tinted in light pink. Cute.

I found my confidence, just like I forced myself to stop shivering and giving him a hand, “my name is Kai.”

He saw the bond I offered to him, a hesitation flashed through his mind but it was only for second before he shook my hand, smooth skin grazed upon my rough ones as we sealed our introduction with him muttered lowly, “I’m Luhan.”

*

We arrived at the Dust Town, the last stop of the train. Only the two of us and a pink suitcase belongs to Luhan. He seemed lost, didn’t have idea why he was here and I don’t want to explain how we practically missed our stops from having staring contest without making myself sounded dumb. So I looked at my bracelet where my Storm Ride kept. I had my reason not to ride with it, but I think I could make an exception with this beauty, “where was your destination?” I asked.

He pouted, “ Mermaid Bay.” As soon as he said the area, the rough map processed in my head giving me the calculation of distance and the estimated time to reach it. That’s the special thing to be born as Storm Rider. We’re not only had ability to travel using natural force but the map of the world also engrossed into our mind, like a walking GPS. Well, it’s not the time to brag, cause this Mermaid Bay was hundred miles away from this place, and the train will only passed this city in the next morning.

“You had business with the Merman?” I asked, wondering if this boy was a part of Sea Ethnic which was blessed with ability to breathe under the water, the Merman.

“No, I’ve come to see my brother.” He said, his face looked hopeless as he stared at his pink suitcase, “I had to give something to him. A gift and a warning.”

A gift and a warning, it was weird that my body stiffened in caution over the words. I wanted to ask more, but I remember not to, cause it’s not even my business. So I pulled out my bracelet and show him, “How about I give you a ride, then?”

His eyes widened, at seeing my bracelet, “you’re a storm rider.” He whispered breathlessly, much to amuse me with his beautiful dazed expression. Then a while later, his face scrunched in confusion, “wait, if you had your own ride, why do you use train?”

That’s a very good question.

“I don’t ride except for battle, or in guard duty.” I let my smile spreading wide, probably I looked creepy but judging from darkening blush crept on Luhan’s face, I think he liked what he saw, “but for today, I guess helping you was also my duty.” I said while throwing my bracelet onto the train track. The bracelet hit the air and dissolved into black smoke. Fog was my element, and black storm formed into a hover motorcycle.

“But…” Luhan stuttered when I took liberty to grab his waist and let him sat on the back seat of the bike. He winced, hugging his pink suitcase while eyeing down to the smoky tires, “I thought no one could ride storm aside the owner.”

“Except his guest.” I climbed to the front and get the storm ready. As I connected to my ride, excitement ran through my body I couldn’t help but smirked to the empty track, “hold on tight, Luhan, I’ll take you to Mermaid Bay in flash.”

*

I felt myself smiled in relief. It was an hour later when we stopped next to harbor. The port of Mermaid Bay was busy with locals selling product and numerous ships unloaded their cargos. Beside me, Luhan was breathing heavily, his beautiful face turned into a sickly green. I couldn’t blame him, it always happened to every guest on Storm Ride. Lucky for Luhan I’m the second fastest storm rider in the world. The first ones actually could travel from North Land to South Pole in 5 hours, just to find himself fell from the cliff and disappeared.

“Too fast.” He muttered.

“Now we’re here.” I put on my bracelet on my right hand again, with the other grabbed Luhan by his skinny arm and lead him into the city, “let’s go finding your brother.”

“Eh, you came too?” He yelped, “Don’t you have something else to do?”

“Nah, I’m a free spirit and I’m really interested in you.” I couldn’t help but being honest. Besides it made my heart fluttered in a good way, for some reason, my answer made Luhan blushed hard and I really like to see him in red.

“Go away!” He yanked my grip on his hand and ran. I should go away, but instead I leisurely followed him, laughing at the ticklish feeling pulsating inside my stomach. Very, very cute.

A few yards in front of me, Luhan looked back with a grumpy face. He stopped running and waited me to reach him, but he looked unpleasant with my smile. I don’t know why it didn’t make me back away. Only happier.  I thought, if I was being around him, I could feel again the warmth atmosphere when Sehun still alive. I could stir away the loneliness for a while. But, Luhan was different. Comparing Luhan to Sehun only made my memory over Sehun slowly faded away, in exchange of Luhan and his adorable yelp, his cute anger, his beautiful yell.

He’s not Sehun.

But being around him was good for me.

“Fine.” Luhan sighed, “My brother lived in downtown. You can go with me but stop smiling like that!”

“Like this?” I gave him another flashy smirk just to annoy him. I know everyone annoyed with my smile. Even Sehun once punched me right in my jaw, saying I’m creepy.

Luhan didn’t hit me, just his face became darker, as he turned away and stomped his way into the city. He muttered curse for me, under his breath. Even I heard it from the whisper of the wind, I just followed him in silent, still smiling to myself for the second chance given to me.

No matter how great to be in war, peace world will always be the best.

‘Not quite…’

Familiar voice reached my hearing from the wind breeze, sending chill upon my skin and in a fast reaction I grabbed Luhan and summoned my ride.

“What the-!” Luhan shouted when the storm brought us to speed towards the sky, just in time with a huge explosion blow the entire city.

I don’t know what Luhan had seen down below, but sitting in front of me with his head facing the city, I could feel his hands curled around my neck, tight and tighter as he buried his face into my chest. I didn’t hear he sobbed but his body trembled again now in shock. As we hid on top of a cloud, I put my hands around his back, loosely hugging him while also soothing him from the fear.

“I knew it.”

But his words didn’t make sense. It’s like he was already foretell this to happen.

“What do you know?” Gently, I pushed him from my body so I could get a view of his ghostly pale face.

“The Machine.” Luhan said, “Master said The Machine was ready for another war.”

*

I could reach my house with storm ride but Luhan was too weak to travel at the speed of light I’m afraid he lost conscious so we spent the night at the nearest hotel. I heard the sound of water from the room beside mine, so I thought probably Luhan was washing up right now. I wanted to talk to him, about his foretell about the upcoming war and who his master was. I had a clue of who he was and where he came from but I think I should wait at least until Luhan had his rest.

I rested on my bed, still full clothes, only care to open my boots and socks. I reached for the TV remote and to see if there’s probably news about explosion in Mermaid Bay. It was everywhere, and mostly the reporter said the government couldn’t find a single clue about what had happen. Some survivors got interviewed, soldiers arrived with medics to help, the bomb division wandering in their yellow uniform, scanning the city for the source of explosion. Even some of Storm Riders, my acquaintances, guarding the city from any further attack.

“Kai.”

I heard soft whisper calling my name before Luhan knocked on my bedroom door. I turned off the TV and get up, “hey.” I  smiled at how Luhan smelled so sweet and looked so cute and defenseless only in an animated shirt and short pants. “You okay?”

“No.” He shook his head.

“Of course.” I tried to sound nice, but probably he thought I’m teasing him. “Do you want to talk?” I asked while opened my door wider and enjoyed the scent of vanilla passed by my shoulder and rested at the end of the bed. The boy’s lips pursed, his face looked content probably from the fresh shower he just get a while ago, but his eyes still looked restless.

“I’m worried.” He started, “I should meet my brother at Mermaid Bay so I can give him a gift and a warning but now the city was destroyed and I’m stuck here.”

“Can you contact him?” I took a chair and sat near him. “There are survivors, your brother probably still alive.”

He sighed, “Yeah, he will. The Scholar was fireproof, so he probably just standing in the middle of somewhere, confused.” I nodded knowingly. I guessed the same thing too, about this boy’s origin. I met some of Scholars at Metropolis, the biggest city in this continent. They were thinkers, teachers, analysts, magicians, anything related to science and since they worked with fire and heat and explosion they found a way to make themselves fireproof.

“So you’re a Scholar too?” I wanted to ask about The Master’s foretell. It’s not prophecy, but calculation from the highest member of College Council, and probably Luhan was here to give his brother warning about it.

“No.”

Sure I was expected Luhan to say the otherwise but apparently I’ve got more interested with him since the boy said he’s a different ethnic with his brother. Well, unless he’s an adoptive son which will sound lame to hear.

“I’m an Android.”

And now everything turned clear, how could this boy looked so blended in between man and woman figure. How he could smell so good, like a tasty food tried to gather predator to get a sniff and attacked him. Why he was so beautiful, without any flaw. Why he’s also so frail and fragile. I had met an Android before, I should knew it from the first time. This boy was the part of rare ethnic and, I hate to lay my eyes down, but I couldn’t help it but staring at Luhan’s crotch, cause now I know Luhan wasn’t actually a boy.

“Where are you looking at?” a pair of skinny hand covered the crotch from my sight, following with a low protest escaped Luhan’s lips, “why EVERYONE always looked THAT WAY every time I tell who I am?!” he said, much to himself. I looked away. With my face burned in embarrassment I cleared my throat and murmuring a low sorry and, “just curious.” I heard rumors, from Sehun actually, that Androids are gender-less. They were born from any ethnic as the mishap in DNA so they didn’t have ia. It was kind of pity, I thought. Luhan would make a cute girl.

“Enough about me.”

I agreed with Luhan even though I wanted to ask how he jacked-off or if he could get PMs. I bit the inside of my cheek to remind myself until I could stared into Luhan’s face again without blurting something stupid like, ‘could you get pregnant?’ or ‘would you marry me?’

“My brother Lu Qian worked for Jarvis College, he was a Dream Catcher, gathering dreams to give Master (The head of College) the data for the future. One day, a Dream Catcher from the North Land gave him a horrible data, a calculation of an accident in Mermaid Bay. That’s why Master sent me to warn my brother and give him a Shield so he could prevent the explosion.” Luhan explained and his face filled with guilty as he keep explained, “if only I could arrive sooner…”

“It’s not your fault.” Actually it is our fault cause we were too engrossed with each other in the train, so we missed our exits. But I tapped his shoulder gently. I don’t want him to be sad about it. “btw, what is Shield?”

Luhan pulled out a small device. It looked alike a silvery smart phone with a white screen, “this is Shield, Machine’s Detector. During the war, this device could detect any bomb and send the encrypted signal to deactivate the bomb. Master was once a slave in Machine’s factory so he knew how Machinery worked. He taught other Scholars the special code the Machine used for their army and using that, he could hack their signal and give them false order, like killing each other instead invading the city.” I think I know this story, it’s about a man who defended Metropolis for years. He was wellknown for destroying Machine’s army with only a laptop and a cup of coffee. That’s kinda wicked.

“So, what will we do next?” I asked, let myself said ‘we’ instead  ‘you’ cause I wanted to be the part of his journey and if his master said was true, about Machine’s rising for once again it would be good if I could warn my team faster so they could prepare for another battle.

Thankfully, Luhan was in between being a dense cutie pie or he’ll just let me be with him, cause he said, “We can get to my brother, tomorrow. He must be helping his Scholar team searching the source of the bomb, then we’ll give him the shield.”

“That’s settled, then.” I rose from my seat, instantly, cause the fatigue reached me and I still need to clean up before I went to sleep. I opened my jacket and shirt and then I realized Luhan was still sitting on my bed, looking at me with the gleam of honey in his gaze, “what? Do you want to inform me something more?” I walked to him, while opening my belt and trouser. I shouldn’t undress in front of him, but I’m just a man and he’s just a boy so why bother?

But the tip of a finger suddenly mapped my abdomen, making me wanted to yelp and letting out an unmanly scream but I manage to hold it, cause Luhan was touching me, sensually. And it awakened my lust in between my legs, “what is this about?” I tried to sound calm.

“I don’t know.” Luhan looked up, which was a bad choice cause his clueless expression made me feel  thirsty, “I think I should do something more, with you, but I didn’t have idea what is it.” he stopped touching me as he got up on his feet, “well, see you tomorrow, Kai.”

I waited, stilled in front of my now empty bed as the scent of Luhan trailed off my room, ended with a low sound of door shut. I still could hear his step at the corridor, I strangely could imagine him locked his bedroom door and climbed to his comfy bed, before he settled in and turned off the bedside lamp. I sighed, a few time, tried not to tell Luhan about his confusion about these desire swirling around us, cause if I forced myself at him, our relationship will only ended as buddies, there will be no bond and no love.

“See you tomorrow, Luhan.” I murmured to myself, hopeless to let out my ual frustration but a smile unconsciously appeared, anticipated to fall in love with Luhan.
