Chapter 18

Mending a Broken Heart(REPOST)

Yunho’s POV

I pushed the door open letting Jae slip in the door before I followed behind. It’s a Saturday, no class so I thought I’d spend the day with Jae…just to make up the two weeks I haven’t been spending that much with him due to dance practice. It’s not that our instructors pushing us to kill myself but I just want to perfect some of the dance routine I’ve missed when I got sick. I couldn’t be more thankful for Jae, for his understanding. Sometimes, he would even pop up at the studio and his mere presence there, just watching me, my group is enough reason for me to work even harder.

Walking in inside a music store, I just stood at my spot, watching Jae’s side as he picked a CD from the shelf it was carefully placed on. He’s full mouth was pressed into a pout, strands of hair falling onto his face (and I’m thankful for that. At least, there would be least people turning their heads back at him). It’s funny how he has that very serious look on his face as he reads the back of the CDs.

Their mom whom I have talked to over the phone twice already, will be celebrating her birthday in a few weeks so Jae thought he’d buy her some CD for present. It’s not really something expensive but as the saying goes, it’s the thought that counts. Plus, Jae would probably give her something more than just the CD. Perhaps, a simple letter that would make
Mrs. Kim cry will be included.

Before we came to the mall, we went to that very same coffee shop where I’ve first seen him. Teasing about how seductively y he looked back then, I laughed as Jae’s tried to hide his blushing face by ducking his head further down.

“Ah! You hit hard, Boo.” I rubbed at my forearm, to where Jae had hit me just now.

“You deserved it.” And he started telling me how I look like such a dork gawking at him that day when he came up to me. We sat there, just talking, sometimes acting silly yet the stares we’re getting from some of the people passing buy didn’t bother us.

I snapped out of my reverie when I felt Jae’s fingers tapping me on the shoulder. Turning around, I stared down at Jae’s slightly shorter form not noticing the bag he has on his hand. “Found anything?”

Jae raised his hands up, showing me the CDs he bought. Holding hands, we walked out of the store.

Jaejoong’s POV

“It’s really been a while since I’ve been to the amusement park.” I answered softly like I just accidentally said my thoughts out loud. I didn’t want to look like an overly excited girly girl and throw myself at Yunho just because he brought me to the amusement park, somewhere I’ve been thinking of going to with him.

An hour after we left the mall, Yunho pulled me to get on some bus I didn’t even get to see where it’s going to.

Yunho shook his head, rolling his eyes when I pulled him towards the entrance. (So much for trying not to act like all excited.).

“Jae, that’s for kids. And I’m pretty sure we are not kids anymore.” Yunho protested, or tried to, when I stopped in front of the Merry-go-Round and looked at him with a puffy eyes.

“Who said this ride’s just for kids? Come on, Yunnie” I nearly laughed at the horrified look on his face at hearing the finality in my voice. We ARE going to ride the merry-go-round. It’s not that horrible of a scene to think of two young men riding on those horses, right?

After 5 minutes.

I rolled my eyes at Yunho smiling at me, waving as he sat there on one of the horse then giggled when he made that cute pout on his lips and took a picture of him. Making a heart with his hands, his lips move as he whispered an “I love you”.

I couldn’t help but teased when he finally come out of the narrow exit door.

“I thought that’s for kids? You seemed to have enjoyed it a lot for you to stay there longer.” Yunho only made a face at me, pulling me towards the next ride, the Water Raft Ride a.k.a as the log ride.

Yunho and I have our hands raised up in the air as the log came down rapidly and splashdown into the body of water. Yunho tried to cover us with the jacket he brought with him. We weren’t completely lucky as we still got wet but lucky enough that we weren’t soaking wet. Laughing, I nearly slipped and would have probably fallen on the ground in an
embarrassing position if Yunho wasn’t quick enough to get a hold of me.

“Careful.” We got up and out of the log and hop from one ride to another until we grew tired. We stopped by a food both, Yunho got both of us some hotdogs and drink.

“That was fun.” I said, accepting the meaty sausage on stick he’s handing me.

We just ate there in silence, smiling at each other every seconds then smiling before turning back and busying ourselves with the food on our hands. It often happens. That Yunho and I would share nothing but the quietness of our surrounding. Weird but I sometime think that it’s times this that we connect more. Aish! It’s like, it’s in silence that we understand each other more, that we feel and hear what’s in each other’s mind even without the other saying anything. I used to think that everything has to be said for you to understand another but with Yunho, he only needs to hold my hand to let me know how (I don’t know but I just know it) how much he loves me. He’ll gently squeeze my hand while we walk and I’ll just know that no matter what happens, he’ll always be there for me.

Every single moment that passes, I can feel just how much more I’m falling even more deeply for Yunho; even if we had our own share of our ups and down in our relationship at the end of the day, we’re still… Us. And I’ll make sure to keep it like that. Always.

“Boooohhhhhhh…” I slapped Yunho’s hand away in front me.

“You’re blocking my view.” I pretended to have been watching an acrobat flip through the air, doing some trucks as some children surrounding them watch with much glee.

“Riigghhtt.” A hint of teasing was in Yunho’s voice, I didn’t really need to pretend that I didn’t just zoned out AGAIN.

After we finish the little treat Yunho bought, we sat in some bench and just watch people that pass by us. In the middle of this huge park was the same group of (circus) performers I was watching earlier. The ringmaster, I supposed, was talking to the audience introducing one of his buddy, a magician of some sort I think. I clapped my hands when he performed a simple trick, glaring at Yunho when he chuckled beside me.

“What?” he shook his head, his arm spread on the back of the bench we’re sitting at.

Time went by fast, I’m not even aware anymore of how long we’ve been here. All that matters is that I’m enjoying every seconds I’m spending with Yunho. Time really flies fast when you’re enjoying it.

Tossing the now empty plastic glass in the garbage, I tugged at Yunho’s short. Let’s take a picture.” He looked at me questioningly, looking at my bag (where I have placed my cam). “The cams battery already died out.”

Yunho agreed and soon we we’re choosing which background to use in our photo. Deciding to have a bluish background, with blue being both (one of) our favorite colors

The Picture both was relatively small but of course enough to accommodate 2-3 people. Since it’s only Yunho and I, we can move quite freely.

I turned to Yunho as we counted to three slowly. I brushed his hair away from his face as he fixed the collar of the shirt I’m wearing and that’s when the flash of the came in. I laughed after the second pic was taken. Yunho’s face probably look…shocked in that ‘coz I have jumped onto his back right at the count of three. We took one last pic, one of us that’s kissing before we finally came out of the said booth happily with the said pictures in our hands.

With both of us still not ready to get into another ride, we went back to the bench we were sitting on earlier and continued...well, sitting there ^_^. We continued watching what we we're watching earlier, only the performers are different than the one from earlier. I blew at the hair strands falling onto my hair when a couple blocked our view.

It's getting cold, and the wind just made me shivered. Crossing my arms together over my chest, I made myself a little warmer. My head turned when I felt something warmer being wrapped around me. It was Yunho's jacket he'd placed around me. Breathing in the scent that solely, Yunho's, I let my lungs be filled with the smell of the cologne my boyfriend uses. My mind went somewhere else for a while before I realized that yes, I will be warmer but Yunho will be the one to suffer the night's coldness. Considering he gets sick quite easily, I tried to argue but Yunho had turned his attention back on the cheering crowd. Sighing in
defeat, I resorted to hugging his jacket tighter around me as I leaned closer to Yunho. "Aren't you cold?"

"This isn't even a match to the coldness I felt when I was working in Gwangju." With his head turned down a bit to me, I can see a smile on Yunho's lips but I felt the sadness in his eyes.

It was one of those days when we just laying down, nestled against each other when Yunho told me about how he and his family's life used to be. One of the stories he told me was when the time their family was thrown out of their house because they couldn't pay the rent anymore. They spent a night sleeping on the street, no one helped them. Not when they're
penniless. Luckily, an old man, an old rich kind man came to their rescue and offered them a place to stay the man's kindness didn't end there. They weren't only given a place to stay but Yunho's father was also offered a job. However, all good things come to an end. That very same man died 3 years later. The man's family wasn't as generous as he was but the old man have prepared for this. In his last will, he had written that the house and lot they're staying at be given to them. The old man's family was furious but wasn't able to do anything. That same
house is the only property they have, everything else they have to work hard for. That's what made Yunho the hardworking man that he is. Helping in any way he knew he can. And having his scholarship was one of the way he knew that he couldn't lessen their parents' responsibilities.

I clasped my hands over Yunho's, rubbing my cheeks on his arms. "I'll make sure you won't get that cold again, Yunho -yah."

Yunho pressed on my hands but didn't say anything.

We both looked up as the darkness above us suddenly glowed with all the colorful and beautiful fireworks. My eyes widen, my eyes curving into a smile as well as Yunho as we both stood up from the bench. The firework displays had started.

"It's beautiful." I whispered.

"Should we get to the Giant Wheel now?" I nodded, a bit hesitant, at Yunho's question.

Honestly, I'm not very fond of the Giant Wheel. I find it a bit boring since it just goes round and round and then the rides over. Plus, next to earthquakes, I'm afraid of heights. BUT if you'll let me choose between the rollercoaster and the giant wheel, I'd go for the first one.
The coaster must be one that'll make your stomach sick but at least after you've been turned upside-down, you'll be done in just a snap. You probably won't even feel and see much of just how high you are since it goes so quickly. The Wheel is just too slow for me. It won't even make you scream and close your eyes so all I'll be left doing is to stare down below us which will only scare me.

On the other hand, Yunho likes this ride so much. He said that whenever he’s in the Giant Wheel, he feels like he’s so close to the sky that he’d be able to reach for the stars. He told me that he likes how he sees everything below him when he’s up there. He likes the darkness that’s surrounding him but very much aware of all the lights that’s shining through that darkness.

Thinking about it now, that’s pretty much how Yunho view life in general. He believes that when a person is doing great and is up there that he still needs to keep his feet on the ground, remembering to look down from where he came from. He’s not scared to face any problems or see nothing but darkness because he believes that no matter what somewhere out there he’ll see light to help him carry through. Yunho told me that we should appreciate everything that’s surrounding us, good or bad, because you’ll never know when you’ll lose them or when you’ll start looking for something you used to pay no attention to and is now missing.

“Maybe we should just ride another one?” Yunho stopped by the entrance of the Giant wheel and turned back to me. “Didn’t you say that you don’t like this?”

Walking past him, I can only shrug a shoulder. “Yes, I did say that. But I didn’t say I wouldn’t if I’m with you.”

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Yunho made sure he got me distracted for most of the ride. It wasn’t really that long…maybe the wheel rotated for 3-4 times and that’s it! Every time my grip would tighten on his arms (that’s when the wheel starts to go up again), he’d pulled me tighter against him.

“Look there, Boo.” Slowly, I opened my eyes and found Yunho pointed somewhere. I opened my eyes and we’re back down but the wheel’s still rotating to go back up again. I followed Yunho’s hide, he’s pointing at some stuff toy displayed in one of the stalls. “I’ll win that for you when we get down.” He said referring to a big white bear.

I’m starting to feel more relaxed when the wheel stopped and everything just went dead. Dead in a way that all the sound of the machines was gone and all the lights went off.

“Yunho-ah...” I called softly went I felt a pair his palms cupping my face. At that time, another set of fireworks went on to the dark sky before it lighted up the sky with its bright colors. The sparks of light from that display was enough to let light Yunho’s face, his handsome face smiling at me.

It was like one of those fairytales when the prince and princess finally got together after fighting so many obstacles. My eyes automatically closed as I placed my hand over Yunho’s hand that was cupping my eyes and welcomed Yunho’s loving kiss. A soft moan escaped my parted mouth and I felt that jolt of electricity come through my body again. As always.

I was still in daze at the kiss even after Yunho pulled back. “Still scared?”

“No. I whispered with a shook of my head “Not when you’re with me.”

That night, I went home with a wider smile plastered on my face… and a big brown bear.
