Chapter 17

Mending a Broken Heart(REPOST)

Jaejoong’s POV

“Changmin-ah, please get the door.” I called out to my brother who’s in the living room when I heard the door bell for the third time. As soon as I heard a faint “got it, hyung!” I continued zipping my pants up. The grabbed the shirt lying on the bed, a black plain top I pulled out from my clothes filled closet. Padding the hem down, I walked out of the room, into the living room, curious as who was the person that was behind the insistent bell ringing.

“Minnie-ah, who is…A-appa…?” I winced at the not so gentle pounding my father’s giving my back when he pulled me into a hug.

“Appa, that hurts.” I said when dad finally stopped patting me hard on the shoulder.

Changmin smirked at the both of us, walking in from closing the door after the driver brought in some bags my father probably brought with him.

“How are my boys doing?” He asked hooking his arms on my shoulder. My father, though is already a man in his late 40’s still exudes this charm that he claims he was able to pass on to us. I would just roll my eyes whenever he claims that but then again I’m still very aware how my dad can still manage to make women turn their hands when he passes by them. He’s presence alone can be quite intimidating especially if he’s looking really serious. With a smile on his face, even with the authoritative aura surrounding him you’ll feel easy around him. Just imagine Changmin, minus the few lines of his face and the few gray hair, that’s my dad.

“Appa, seriously, what are you doing back here?” I rolled my eyes when he let out a soft sigh. Appa can be dramatic sometimes, more than my mom can. “Aren’t you supposed to be in China?”

“I don’t even get a hello and now you already want me to leave?” Father’s face turned sad. At the shake of my head, Appa started laughing. “I love you, too, son.”

And that’s when I hug my father. I, or should I say, we missed him terribly. I couldn’t say how happy and contented with my family even with my parents divorcing. My family, in my eyes, is still as perfect as it can be.

Making myself comfortable on the couch beside him, Changmin grabbed a bag of chips before he too sat beside us, asking the question I have asked earlier. “But seriously, Appa, what are you doing here in Korea? Is something wrong between you and Aunt Liz?”

“Nope, no problem, you guys worry about me a lot. You’re not forgetting that I am the father, are you?” Appa shook his head and then continued when he still saw the worried look on our faces. “Nothing’s wrong. I just…well….I happened to finish a meeting with a probably client earlier than expected and since I’m already here I decided to drop by.
“Are you sure?” he nodded.

“I’m sure, Joongie. I think I told Changmin that I might visit.” Appa shifted in his seat to look at my brother who stopped chewing his chips as if remembering about that fact just now.

He snapped his finger and then went “Oh, yeah! Appa told me…last week…I think I forgot. ehehehehe.”

“You sure did.”

Since my parents remained very good friends, everything in our life’s great (I think I’ve already said that, didn’t I?)\. Even when both of them found someone and decide to get married to their now respected partners, no objection came from either Changmin or me. In fact we wholeheartedly welcomed Uncle Tae Won, mom’s husband and Aunt Liz, dad’s American wife, in our lives. And we couldn’t be happier receiving the same warmth from them.

Father took a handful of chips from the bag Changmin’s munching on and placed it n his mouth. Oh, yeah! Aside from the fact that they look very much alike physically, one more thing that they’re alike in is their HUGE appetite. Both of them eat like there’s no tomorrow.

I stopped noting their similarities when Appa spoke again, his eyes on me. “Don’t you have something you’ll want to tell me, Joongie-ah?”

My browse rose, trying to remember if I do have something to tell him. “Uh, no. I don’t think I have. Is there anything you want me to tell you?” I asked in return, the sudden guilty look on my brother’s face didn’t escape my eyes.

Appa followed my eyes and spoke to distract me from staring at Changmin who was choking on his chips. Oh! He’s nervous! He did do something.

“How about you tell me something about a certain Jung Yunho, hmm?” I gaped at my father. His face was expressionless that I didn’t know if telling him about Yunho would be a great idea.

When father first found out about my...should I say choices, preference? Whatever, he wasn’t exactly very happy with it. Oh no! He wasn’t. In fact, he was fuming mad. And just like any other father who found their eldest son like men than women, father told he that he can’t accept me as his son anymore and that I’m not longer part of our family. Mom was shocked as well but unlike father, she still accepted me for what I am. They’d always fight from then on… day after day. And I hated myself for it. Changmin didn’t say anything but he was always beside me. I remember asking him one time, if he felt ashamed for having me as his brother. And all the answer I got was a very, very hard smack in the head (in which he later explained was for my stupidity for thinking that way.). Tears rolled down my cheeks when he hugged me after he’d hit me, my brother’s silent way of showing me that he didn’t care about that. Few months have passed and still father wasn’t talking to me. He’d rather talk and look on the wall than me. Every single day of that few months was torture. Father and I we’re really close before and because of me everything changed. I’d hope that it won’t be long until Appa can finally accept me. My prayer was answered after 6 months. The day before my 15th birthday, Father knocked in my room, pulled the shock me in a hug and his voice pleading as he asked me for forgiveness. From then on, father and I have gotten even closer. I didn’t need to hide my attractions to men and what makes it even better is over the time, I was able to talk to my father about it.

“…and besides, I never really like the Junki guy you were dating before. I was only nice to him because you said you like him a lot.” Is dad still thinking? I think I’m still hearing his voice.” Kim Jaejoong, are you even listening to what I was saying?”

“Appa, I don’t think hyung heard you.” Changmin’s voice joined fathers’.

Changmin shook at my head. It was only then that I snapped back to the present. “Were you saying something, Appa?”

“I told you.” Changmin snorted so I lifted the nearest thing I can get hold of and threw it at Changmin. He should be thankful, he’s face collided with the pillow and not some empty can like I did with Chun.

“Aish, hyung… because you did that I think I’d return the favor.” Before I can even ask what he meant, he’d sprint back to his room already.

With a puzzled look on my face, I turn to Appa asking what that was all about. Changmin isn’t thinking of joining in the track and field, is he?

Father shrugged his shoulder glancing down at his watch. “Do you need to go now, Appa? You haven’t even been here for an hour”

“Actually, yes.” I made a face at Father. “I’ll be back for dinner though so you better prepare a good meal for your father.”

Now, that made me happy so I nodded. ‘I sure will, Appa! Just make sure you’ll come back. The last time you told me to cook, you never came back. The food just went to taste.”

Walking towards the door, Appa just need to mess up with my hair before he stepped out of the door. “Don’t worry, Joongie. I have every intention and reason to come back. I still need to meet Yunho tonight.”

“What?!”

“Why don’t you go and knocked down your brother’s door. For all we know, he’s already scaring your boyfriend of stories about me.”

“What?!” Again. I blinked and then all I saw was my father’s retreating back, his hand waving goodbye.

“Kim Changmin, OPEN THIS DOOR. NOW!”

+++++++++++++++++++++++
I stood grounded under the door frame when I opened the door and found Yunho standing there. He looks extremely handsome even an in just loose pant that was paired with a white printed shirt. It was simple. It was really simple but with Yunho wearing it, he was just stunning.

“Yunho-ah…” Peeking in around my shoulder, Yunho planted a soft kiss on my lips.

“Where are the others?” He asked as we walked into our house. My browse twitched at his question.

“Others?”

“Yeah, Changmin said Yoochun, Junsu and the rest will be here.” He answered. Before I can even reply Changmin had appeared from the hallway towards our rooms.

“Yunho-hyung!” He nearly jumped on Yunho, pulling him into the living room. Before I knew it, they are already both busy, Changmin proudly showing his newest and latest play station, a gift from our father plus some really good food. Changmin doesn’t want to admit it but it just took all of those things for him to betray me and tell everything to Dad.

Changmin avoided my eyes at any cost; he knows I’m glaring at him. His back would have probably had a hole on it by now from the way I was glaring at him. I haven’t move an inch from where I was standing, thinking of how I can get back at my brother, when Yunho’s voice raising of his voice surprised me. “What do you mean I’ll be meeting your father?”

I left Changmin’s life in Yunho’s hand as the door bell rang. “At least, I didn’t have to be the one to tell Yunho.” I thought as I swung the door open hoping that the person I’ll see standing under the frame isn’t my dad. It would be much better if the person I’ll see is my father’s driver, sent to inform me that Appa wouldn’t be able to make it.

My shoulders dropped when all my prayers wasn’t granted. “Hi… Dad.” I greeted. “I’m glad to see you back.” My voice trailed off as my father walked passed by me and in a rather intimidating voice called Changmin’s name.

Changmin appeared from behind the wall that separates the living room from the entrance foyer. Grinning, Changmin waved at us, acting all cute because he knows that once Appa leaves, he’s one dead meat!

I cast Yunho an apologetic look when those dark chocolate orbs of his stared at me questioningly. Aish! Now he looks nervous!

Changmin and Dad’s voice got louder and a second later, they walked in from behind me.

“Ahjusshi?” Yunho’s eyes we’re wide as he stared at my father

“Ah! It’s nice to see you again, Yunho.” Changmin and I looked at each in confusion as we watched Father walked up to Yunho, placing an arm over my boyfriend’s shoulder as the other offered Yunho for a handshake.

We couldn’t believe it when father told us how Yunho had helped him chase after a guy who tried to snatch away his suitcase when he arrived in Korea just the other day. With Yunho’s help, my dad was safe and the guy was caught and is now behind bars.

Changmin and Appa are sitting on the other side of the rectangular table as Yunho and I sat next to each other on the other side.

As we sat there around the table, all my anxieties earlier was totally gone seeing how my father and Yunho talk casually over dinner. I can see how Yunho’s still nervous though so I’d tighten my hold on his hand under the table. It helped that Yunho ambidextrous or he wouldn’t be able to eat with his left hand.

They’ve talked about almost everything. Sports, business, politics, etc. Changmin and I just sat there listening, joining in their conversation every once in a while. IN between their conversation, Appa would throw in questions about Yunho and me during their conversations, trying to catch Yunho off guard but didn’t succeed.

By the end of dinner, Appa patted me on the shoulder. I can see Yunho had made quite a very good impression on my dad. And having talked to him for an hour only made dad get even more impressed than he already is.

Father bid goodbye with a satisfied look on his face. Turning, he placed a hand on the curve of Yunho’s shoulder. “Take care of my son. You hurt him, I’d kill you.”

“I will, Sir.”

++++++++++++++++

“Wow! That went well.” I chuckled when Yunho finally let out the breath his holding the whole time. He stayed for another hour, just talking, hanging out before he decided to finally go.

“Sorry if I wasn’t able to tell you about this earlier. I didn’t know that dad’s going to meet you either. We should really get Changmin for this.”

Laughing, Yunho nodded. “We really should.” I blushed when Yunho took my hand from my side, our fingers intertwined. “I must be lucky today. I never thought that Mr. Kim is your dad though I notice how much he reminded me of Min.”

“Oh, they’re twins…even in their appetite.” We both laugh, stopping when we reached the bus stop. “I’ll see you tomorrow then.”

“You bet!” Giving me one last breathtaking lingering kiss, I watched as Yunho climbed the public vehicle, only turning around when the bus’ door slide closed.

+++++++++

On the bus.

Yunho put his hands on his pocket. Taking out and opening his wallet, he noticed a little paper tucked with his money. Unfolding the paper, Yunho smiled at the thoughtful message written on it.

“Take care. Get home safe for me.
Love, Boo.”
