Location Jargon
Fanfic Peeves
This isn't entirely related to Kpop fanfics, but could be in a sense.
It really, HUGELY bugs be when a story is written in one location, say Britain,
And all of a sudden, I'm coming across phrases and words that don't belong in the British vocabulary.
There is no way British people will be saying, 'It's two blocks away' like Americans because our streets are a sham and are not arranged prettily.
Words like 'trash', 'high school' and 'soccer' do not belong in a story that is placed in Britain.
Similarly, if you are writing a fanfic and it is clearly located in Korea, we need to think about the kind of vacabulary used. Such as their cuisine (it's not always ramyun) or the fact there is a abundance of clinics (on every corner apparently), or which side of the road they drive on.
I know there is the excuse that the author isn't Korean or British so won't know, but a little research doesn't hurt anyone.
So there we have it. Researching into location will make a story so much more imaginable and real in the head.
