Well, I think we've all read at least one story where the main oc girl has some sort of phobia.

Phobia is an irrational fear of something. I've heard people having a phobia of buttons O.o

Back to the point!

So many fanfiction have the girl afraid of thunder storms and in my opinion mainly, I find it almost ridiculous.

There might be people who are scared of thunder but when you read it in every single fanfic, it gets boring.

Not only that, it gives me an image of the lead girl that she's weak and can't even take care of herself.

There's also the plane phobia thing. Many characters are afraid of travelling on a plane. I've read lots on that.

I'm not saying that these phobias shouldn't be used; some fanfics have these phobia included and end up with the sweetest moments.

Other times, it's like your reading the same thing over and over again.

There are other phobias out there as well.

The usual ones are darkness, heights, spiders and clowns.

Some others are a bit more creative like a phobia of men <- that could be a whole story line there [You may take that if you like ;)]

Phobias can determine what readers think of characters for example:

Girl needing someone with her and hold her on a plane journey tells me she can be very vulnerable at times and need protecting.

Girl scared of men could say she's a or been hurt by a man before or even a man hater.

There is a trend that a lot of girls have these phobias. Maybe it would be interesting to have a guy be afraid of something. Not all men are immune to everything scary.
