Two - The Kariselle tour
let me hear your thoughtsToo much for a Friday morning.
How someone can have these thoughts early this morning is beyond Karina.
She swears hearing other people's thoughts would be the death of her sometimes. But somehow, in a weird way, this makes her understand how people are often not who they are in their heads (except some douchebags are literally rednecks inside and out).
No one really knows about her being able to hear these noises except her family, and sometimes (almost all the time really) she gets the itch to tell Giselle, but she didn't want to freak her out.
She decided to ignore the ungodly noises the guys in her block are emitting, unconsciously shifting her seat to the left, in a poor attempt to be as far as possible from the sources of the blasphemous thoughts. This has been something she is used to doing before the empty seat beside her was taken. She suddenly realized it's no longer empty, and she sees Winter looking at her expectantly.
"Sorry, habit." She said as if it offers an explanation.
Winter looks at her a bit confused, then sees Karina move back to her original position, realizing what the girl meant.
"Should I ask her to tour me around campus? It's literally like my third day already but I still keep on getting lost. But then isn't that too bold of me, what if she doesn't like me, or what if—"
"Hey Gi, do think we should give Winter a tour around campus during lunchtime?" Karina says, cringing a bit at herself for her poor attempt to shut Winter's inner ramblings.
"Oh no, you don't have to, I got um-", Winter scrambles through her things and finds a piece of paper, "map here, I should be good." She said.
"Except I don't know how to read maps." Karina hears from Winter's head.
"Nonsense! We can grab lunch at the cafeteria then we'll give you a Kariselle tour." Giselle grinned, eyes disappearing in her smile. "Where have you been having your lunch all this time?"
"Oh, for the past two days, my sister picks me up as we got some papers to sort out ."
"Is she picking you up today as well?" Giselle asks.
"No, but I'll probably just—"
"Let's eat lunch together then! Rina and I will tour you around, should have been the first day really but you just disappear during lunch." Giselle pointed out.
"Uhm-yeah. Thank you, I would appreciate that." Winter smiles back.
-
Karina hated the cafeteria, never mind the food, but it's easily the most populated place on the campus, something that isn't really a good thing if you can hear nearby people's thoughts. However, it's also the best place for her to practice tuning out noises and work on her skills of not wincing when she gets distracted by the said noises.
During bad days, she would ask Giselle to buy something for her instead and eat on the nearby benches, something that the Japanese girl initially didn't understand but had been used to already.
During the worse than bad days, Karina can't eat anything at all.
Today has been a thin line of a getting-by day and a bad day. She was doing so good before those jerks decided to do what they're best at,—thinking like jerks.
She uncomfortably picks on loose threads in her uniform, lining up just behind Giselle, waiting for their turn to grab lunch. Winter stands behind her awkwardly, eyes shifting everywhere, taking in the place. Karina decided that distracting both of them would be beneficial to both parties, so she asks Winter about herself.
"Which school where you from?" She started.
"SMU." Winter answered, gauging a reaction from Karina.
"You're from SMU? Why did you transfer here? People are dying to be there, Winter." She exaggerated a bit, still sounding amazed.
"Uhm well, the short story is my sister wanted me to move with her, and this is the nearest school." She shrugged.
Karina opened to say something, but then hearing the other girl's thoughts, she decided not to
