Unforeseen CircumstancesSana looked at the rundown apartment building, a frown on her face as she continued to look. She knew Mina didn’t have the best of things, her clothes being the first sign.
She had noticed how Mina’s clothes were baggy at first, maybe thinking that she just liked comfort. Heck, she loved being comfortable at home. But after their first session, she didn’t know what to think. She saw the holes in the younger’s jacket, then her shirt. Everything seemed to not sit right with her. By the second time, she saw the same thing. It worried her which made her give her payment earlier than anticipated. She wanted her to buy herself a better jacket. But she was shocked when she saw her come back with the same rundown jacket…
“Now or never.” Sana whispered to herself.
She got out of her car, walking into the lobby of the building. No one was around, which she was grateful for. She took the stairs as Mina explained in her text and walked to the second floor. She felt her nerves building as she knocked on the fourth door in the hallway, hoping that no one saw her.
The door opened seconds later, revealing a tired Mina. Sana gave her a small smile, hoping that she would return it, only for the younger to step away from the door to let her inside.
Sana didn’t know how to explain the feeling she felt when she walked into the apartment. It was bare, no doubt about that. She saw the little table on the floor near the kitchen with a few pillows thrown around it, then the same set up in what she assumed to be the living room. It was shocking to her to see how little she had…
“I don’t have much… So I’m sorry about that.” Mina whispered.
“What happened with the money we gave you?” Sana asked, immediately wanting the answer to that question.
“Rent for two months and real groceries.” Mina answered, her eyes fixed to the hardwood floor.
Sana turned to see the younger avoiding her. She didn’t know what to think. Was she telling the truth?
“I gave you a lot… How is that only two months rent and groceries?” Sana frowned.
“I… I’ve been behind…” She admitted. “Listen.. You wanted answers… And you’ll get them.” Mina muttered. “I.. I just never opened up to anyone really.. Except a few really close friends..” She sighed.
