Of Love and Soulmates.

Kai knocked softly on the door and let himself in when he heard Bongcha’s voice from the other side.

“You’re early, Mr Do is currently out for another meeting.” Bongcha smiled at the male.

“Yes, I was getting a bit restless sitting at home,” Kai replied while rubbing the back of his head.

“Make yourself comfortable,” Bongcha spoke in a gentle voice as she stood up from her desk. “Would you like something to drink? We’ve got some lovely matcha from Japan.”

“Please don’t trouble yourself.” Kai hurriedly shook his head as he sat down on the sofa.

Bongcha however proceeded to pour him a glass of water nonetheless. Removing his hat, Kai ran a hand through his hair to unflatten it. He kept his gaze on Bongcha; her movements showed great efficiency, highlighting the familiarity she had with the space. Something about how stable and serene and certain she was brought Kai great comfort, soothing the anxiousness that had been bubbling inside of him since the meeting with Jennie.

“Here.” Bongcha placed the glass of water on the coffee table.

Instead of sitting back back in her chair, Bongcha decided to lean against the desk instead, so that the piece of furniture did not act as a barrier between her and Kai. It was clear that he was feeling uneasy and tense, and it would do him no good going in a meeting with Kyungsoo in such a state as it would just be counterproductive. Thus, she decided to engage him in a casual conversation to soothe his nerves first.

“I don’t think I could ever grow accustomed to the bitter taste of matcha,” Kai mused, the corners of his lips curling into a shy smile. “I forced myself to drink it when I was in Japan but still could not convert my taste buds.”

“Do you go to Japan often?”

“Occasionally. Jennie and I went to the hot springs in Hokkaido for our honeymoon.”

Kai's voice cracked slightly once he said that, memories of the past resurfacing at full speed and swarming in his mind, reducing his ability to focus on the present. Bongcha inhaled deeply, chewing on the inside of her cheeks as she contemplated on how to continue the conversation. To her surprise, it was Kai who spoke up first.

“How’s your ankle?” Kai asked, staring at her feet.

Bongcha’s eyes followed Kai’s gaze and only then did she remember that she was wearing slippers. She had removed her shoes once she arrived at the office for the sake of comfort and practicality, and she had completely forgotten to change back into proper shoes when Kai arrived.

“Oh my, I’m not giving a very professional impression now am I?” Bongcha shook her head.

“Don’t worry,” Kai reassured the girl. “As long as your ankle is comfortable.”

Silence fell between them again, and Bongcha wracked her brain to think of something to say. It was unusual for her to have so much alone time with a client. Usually they would show up strictly for the meetings with Kyungsoo and get out of there as soon as possible. After all, who would want to spend their free time in a law firm?

“You want to ask me something,” Bongcha stated, eyeing the way Kai was fidgeting his fingers and how his eyes drifted around the room trying to make up his mind about something.

“I… wanted to ask about your divorce experience if that’s ok,” Kai mumbled, still not daring to meet her gaze.

“There’s nothing much to say really,” Bongcha hummed. “It was rather uneventful and was over quite fast. Nothing like the divorces that celebrities go through.”

“You still look very young,” Kai commented.

“I married young,” Bongcha replied after waiting a beat.

“Just like me then,” Kai whispered, finally daring to look at her face. “Do you think you rushed it? Do you regret it? Is it hard having to carry the label of being a divorcee at such a young age?”

Kai had shot out the questions all in one go, fearing that if he slowed down he would lose the courage to voice his worries and never be able to obtain answers. In contrast, Bongcha was ever-so-calm, no sign of being overwhelmed by the myriad of questions.

“Is there any point in regretting a decision I made together with someone that I love? Some I consider to be my soulmate?” Bongcha finally answered after giving it much thought. “Whether it was marriage or

Chapter 25: It’s refreshing to read about the female lead asking for a date first. But they both were so cute..! Typical introvert’s characteristics. Tormenting themselves about the meaning behind the other’s words and actions. But still so cute. Hahha.
Thank you for this nicely-written story. I haven’t found much Kyungsoo ff these days, so I’m grateful to have read this.

Chapter 23: Ahah I did check up the sentence about Tempo lyrics because yes it sounded familiar. ^^
Surprised by Junmyeon's accurate analysis about Bongcha and Kyung Soo relationships! And happy that she finalmoving forward and being resolute to be more active toward him.

Chapter 22: That's weird, considering her previous thoughts and acts I thought she was already aware of her feelings and had some clues about Kyungsoo's as well.
She can be very dense xD

Chapter 21: Ahah Bongcha is not as straigh forward than I thought. She clearly saw that Kyungsoo was tortured about Kai and her and yet she is playing to make him jealous then act instead of disclosing her own feelings toward him directly...

Chapter 20: Kai was indeed very cool and brave. He could have play it very less gentleman. Making her guilty, or trying to seduce her despite knowing her feelings for Kyung Soo.

Maybe Kai tend to be a secondary character because in real life he is quite shy and dont display easily his thoughts ( well, he was less timid in Super M 's One's promotion and Mtopia for sure ) so it might be not easy to picture him as an outstanding character.

Chapter 19: I'm starting to get used to Kyung soo's feelings and Bongcha's ones toward him.

While Kai is more taking from her Kyungsoo is more about giving to her.

Kai gained hope, faith, comfort, reassurance from her he wasn't in state of giving her anything. Bongcha play more the role of a rebound girl for him even if his behavior is a genuine one.

Kyung Soo on the other hand give her confidence, responsibility, respect, an opportunity to level up and in the same time he has been supportive and reassuring concerning her doubt and fears.

Chapter 15: Wow, beside the moment they saw each other in casual clothes in the previous chapter I didn't see this dynamic coming about KyungSoo and Bongcha. It was a little too fast for me and somehow I'm sad for Kai.
