Chapter 17 (Yunho)

Blessings from Blizzards?

A/N:  Okay, so things are going to be very different in the different arcs from now on, and I’ve been thinking that I want to split them into entirely different stories.  I think it’s a little confusing for those who only want to read one or two of the members’ chapters to navigate through all of them.  So, I’m going to do one last round of chapters for this story and then make five new stories that will pick up where this one left off.  I want to have two decent length chapters for each one before I post any of them, so it might take me a while to post.  Give me a week or two after I complete this one.  I hope that will allow me to communicate the stories better.  Thanks for sticking with me so far and I hope you’ll like the direction I’m going to take with them!

Yunho

Yunho sighed when Shandi told him and Changmin to go outside so she could change into the shirt she had coerced off of Changmin.  At least they had made it through the night together with nothing too inappropriate happening.  He felt like after spending the night with her, and alone, he could handle pretty much anything else that might happen.  He followed Changmin outside and shut the door behind him.

“So, hyung.  What happened last night?  How did you get trapped outside?  I thought you were right behind us after we left the coffee shop.”  Yunho shook his head.

            “Apparently, Shandi loves snow.”

“That’s not much of an answer.  So, what?  She just waltzed off into the blizzard and you followed her?”

“Well, I couldn’t just let her get lost out there by herself.”

“No, you had to get lost with her.  That makes it so much better.”  Changmin sighed and swung his arms about.  “It is freezing out here.  Did you have to give her my coat, too?”

“Did you want her to walk out in just a blanket?  Besides the fact that you just mentioned, what would happen if someone were to see her like that?  With us?  There would be a huge scandal.”

Changmin sighed again.  He did have a point, though.  It was cold outside.  Yunho wished his shirt and jacket hadn’t been in a bad a shape as Shandi’s clothes.  They waited silently for a few minutes.  What was taking Shandi so long?  All she had to put on was a shirt and a blanket.  Was something wrong?  Was she okay?  He turned around and started back towards the door when Changmin caught his arm.

“What are you doing, hyung?  You can’t go back in there right now.  She could still be .”  Changmin was right, of course.  But, Yunho still had the urge to check on her, to make sure she was alright.  He shook his head.  What had gotten into him?  First, there was the fact that he almost couldn’t control himself during the blizzard, and now, he was worrying about her safety when she had only been out of his sight for a moment.

“Are you alright?  Maybe we should get you to a doctor.”  Changmin was staring at him with a concerned look on his face.  Just great.  Now, he was making Changmin worry about him, too.

“I’m fine.  It’s just that Shandi fell in the lake last night, and I’m worried that she’s not okay.  She needs to go the hospital and get checked out.”  Changmin nodded.

“We’ll make sure she’s taken care of, hyung.  Don’t worry about her, worry about yourself.”  If only he could only worry about himself.  Ever since he laid eyes on her, his thoughts had revolved around Shandi in some form or fashion.  What had happened to him?  He had only known her for a night, but it felt like he had known her for years.  Was this normal?  It had never happened to him before.  Maybe he should ask around; see if any of the other members had had this sort of thing happen to them.

The door to the cabin opened to let Shandi out.  She was still wrapped in the blanket and her hair was really messy.  It was obvious that she had fallen in the lake and not washed afterwards.  He smiled, though.

“Took you long enough.  What were you doing?  You obviously weren’t trying to fix your hair.”  As usual, Changmin was being mean to the girl.  Why did it feel like he was going to have to deal with this for a long time?  Shandi stuck her tongue out at Changmin, but said nothing.  She walked over to Yunho and slipped her arm through his.

“What are we waiting for?  Why don’t we head back?”  She looked around, in awe at the amount of snow that had piled up during the blizzard.

“Yoochun and Jaejoong went to get some kind of vehicle for us, so we don’t have to walk all the way back dressed like this.”

“Oh.  That makes sense.”  She was quiet for a moment.  “I’m sorry I got you into this, Yunho.”  He thought for a moment.

“Surprisingly, I’m not.  At least I wasn’t stuck with the other members.  Believe it or not, spending every waking moment for weeks with the same four people gets really old really fast.  Especially when one of those people is Changmin.”

“Hey!”  Changmin punched him in the shoulder ‘lightly’.  “You love it when I’m around.”  Yunho rubbed his shoulder.

            “Sure, I do.”

At that moment, Jaejoong and Yoochun climbed over the mound of snow in front of the cabin.

“Hey.  They’ve cleared some of the paths leading out here, but we still couldn’t bring the van too far.  We’ll have to walk a little ways.”  Jaejoong stopped for a moment when he saw how Shandi was dressed.  “It’s a good thing your friend thought to give you some clothes.  Come on.  They’re in the van.”

“Where’s Junsu?”  Yunho looked around, half expecting to see him come popping up from behind a tree.

Yoochun answered.  “Back at the lodge.  Apparently, Robyn figured out what had happened before anyone else; so, she packed up some clothes for Shandi, went looking for us, and, after she told us what she thought had happened, freaked out.  Junsu’s keeping her calm for the moment.”  Yunho glanced at Shandi.  She shook her head, but didn’t seem overly concerned about her friend.

“This happens a lot.  She lets herself get stressed out over the tiniest things.”

“This was a tiny thing?  What other problems do you get yourself into?”  If this counted as a ‘tiny thing’, Yunho didn’t want to know the answer to his second question.

“Well, I don’t really get myself into any really bad situations.  I just, occasionally, run into a little trouble.”  Yunho shook his head.  He wasn’t going to press the issue anymore.  He was little afraid of what classified as ‘a little trouble’ with her.

Changmin started off in the direction Yoochun and Jaejoong had come from.  “Come on.  No sense wasting time here.  It’s cold.”  Yunho had to agree.  He grabbed Shandi’s hand to take her with him and was disappointed when she pulled it away.

“I can walk by myself, Yunho.”  She stalked off after Changmin, leaving a very confused Yunho behind.  Yoochun and Jaejoong shared a glance and smirked.  Yunho mentally prepared himself for the onslaught of dirty jokes awaiting them in the van.

Aside from the comments from Jaejoong and Yoochun that earned them several pranks whenever she got the chance, Shandi felt like the fifteen-minute van ride back to the lodge was largely uneventful.  It was a bit anticlimactic after every thing that had happened since she got to Korea.  She had been waiting for the van to crash or the engine to stall or something bad to happen that would get them all stuck out here longer.  Thankfully, nothing happened, though.  It was almost kind of relaxing.  Shandi felt nice and warm in her spare coat that Robyn had packed for her.  She had made the guys stand outside the van while she changed into the fresh clothes and tried to make her hair look decent.  Unfortunately, without a shower there wasn’t much she could do about the mess that was her hair.  She just had to hope there weren’t too many people in the lobby when they walked through.

As they pulled up to the back entrance (for which she was extremely grateful as that meant she could just go up the stairs and avoid the lobby altogether), there was an awkward silence in the van.  Yunho had finally gotten upset with Jaejoong and Yoochun’s comments about their night together in the cabin and had blown up at them.  They had sheepish looks on their faces.  Shandi was just glad they were quiet, for once.  She got out of the van and headed for the stairs, but was stopped by a hand on her arm.

“Wait a second.  I think you should get checked out at the hospital, Shandi.  You did fall in the lake, after all.”  Shandi glared at Yunho.

“I’m not going like this.  I feel disgusting.”

“After you get cleaned up, then?”  He looked so hopeful, what could she say?  No?

            “Alright.”

“Good.  I’ll meet you in front of your room in an hour.”  With that, Yunho started up the stairs.  He didn’t know her room number, did he?  How could he?  Oh wait.  Changmin knew.  Yunho could just ask him.  She shrugged off the uneasy feeling she had about seeing him again.  How could she face him after last night?  It was so awkward.  She climbed up the stairs and knocked on the door to her room.  Her key had been in her other coat; the one that was still in the cabin.  She probably wasn’t going to go get it.  She was more than a little surprised when Junsu opened the door to let her in, but was tackled by Robyn before she could say anything about it.

“Shandi!  I’m so glad you’re okay!  You are okay, aren’t you?”  Robyn broke the hug and held her out at arms length as if she could tell by her quick examination whether or not Shandi was, in fact, okay.

“I’m fine.  But I want a shower.”  Shandi pushed Robyn’s hands off her and walked into the room.  Junsu bade Robyn farewell and left the room.  She would have to ask Robyn about that later.  She gathered up her toiletry bag and headed into the bathroom, closing the door behind her.  Stripping quickly, she the shower and got in.  She was so impatient to get clean that she forgot to wait for the water to warm up.  Luckily it only took a few moments of her jumping around in the cold water for it to get hot.  She sighed.  This was what heaven must feel like.
