The Smile In Your Eyes

Lisa was out on a jog that morning. Today would be her first day back at the company since her homecoming.

She was a little nervous; however, she was confident that she'll be able to do well.

She didn't spend those years of hard work and schooling for it all to go down the drain.

Finishing off her last lap around the park, the blonde glances at her watch before deciding that she had enough time to grab a cub of coffee.

It was only 7 am, but the café was already packed with customers. Lisa walks up to the cashier and quickly orders a vanilla latte.

She then retreats to the side and waits for her order to be called. The Thai had waited for about 15 minutes when her drink was finally ready.

She approaches the counter and reaches to grab her drink when a hand had grabbed it before her.

She stares at the place where her latte was sitting just a second ago, before glancing up towards the person who had swiped her drink.

Lisa: Excuse me but—

The Thai stops mid sentence when she comes face to face with the person with her drink. She immediately recognizes the strawberry blonde's face and suddenly feels herself getting tongue tied as she looked into the Australian's intimidating eyes.

Chaeyoung looks at the familiar girl who had shouted her, wondering where she had seen her before.  After a few moments, it had finally clicked and she immediately recognizes the person in front of her to be the girl from the airport.

Chaeyoung: You're the girl from the airport.

Lisa's face turns red as she shies away from looking into the Australian's eyes.

Lisa: Y-yeah.

Chaeyoung her head to the side as she looks at Lisa with a questioning gaze.

Chaeyoung: Can I help you with something?

Lisa clears as she rubs her nape awkwardly.

Lisa: You kinda... took my drink.

Chaeyoung lifts the cup and examines the label to find nothing wrong with it.

Chaeyoung: No, this is my drink. Are you sure you didn't make a mistake like last time?

The tall blonde blushes even more if it was even possible at this point. She was beyond embarrassed to have found herself in the same situation from her first encounter with the Australian.

However, before she could muster an answer, a barista had came out and cleared the misunderstanding.

Barista: Excuse me miss, but that vanilla latte is actually this person's.

He gestures to Lisa, in which the blonde feels a weight lift off her shoulder to know that she hasn't embarrassed herself once again.

As she glances at the tall Australian beside her, she couldn't help but stifle a laugh at the latter's blushing face.

Barista: This vanilla latte is yours.

The barista hands the cup over to Chaeyoung in which she accepts with a nod of gratitude.

Lisa watches as the barista walks off before turning back towards Chaeyoung with a teasing smirk.

Lisa: I'm sorry, but I believe you're still holding my coffee.

Chaeyoung clears awkwardly before handing over the first vanilla latte to Lisa.

Chaeyoung: My bad.

Lisa shrugs nonchalantly, a smile still playing on her lips.

Lisa: It's all good. We all make mistakes after all.

Chaeyoung's cheeks were starting to burn from embarrassment, she shook her head slightly before excusing herself.

Chaeyoung: Well I'll be on my way then.

As the Australian moves to make her way out of the café, she was suddenly stopped from doing so by Lisa.

Lisa: Wait!

Chaeyoung shoots the Thai a wary gaze as she tries to keep her distance.

Chaeyoung: Can I help you?

Lisa chuckles lightly as scratches her nape nervously.

Lisa: I uh... I just wanted to apologize. For the suitcase.

Chaeyoung shrugs and lifts up her coffee cup.

Chaeyoung: And I stole your coffee today. I guess we're even now.

Lisa smiles awkwardly as she fidgeted with her hands.

Lisa: I'm actually a big fan of your designs. I was wondering if you'd like to have dinner with me sometime.

Chaeyoung stares at the Thai expressionlessly as she tries to gauge the latter's intentions.

Chaeyoung: Are you asking me out?

Lisa's cheeks suddenly flushed a deep red as she quickly shook her head.

Lisa: Of course not. You don't have to worry about me hitting on you. I already have a girlfriend.

Chaeyoung relaxes a bit at Lisa's answer.

Chaeyoung: Then why the dinner?

Lisa: Like I said. I'm a big fan, and I just want to treat someone I idolize to a good meal. What do you say?

Chaeyoung's lips form a thin line as she contemplated on Lisa's offer. It wasn't a date, and the latter seemed nice enough.

Chaeyoung: I accept.

Lisa: So that's a yes?

Chaeyoung nods.

Chaeyoung: Was I not clear the first time?

Lisa chuckles at Chaeyoung's bluntness. She has a feeling that the two of them will become good friends.

Lisa: So when are you free?

Chaeyoung: I'm busy this week. But I should be free by next week.

Lisa smiles and gives Chaeyoung a nod.

Lisa: I'll see you on Sunday then.

Chaeyoung: Sunday sounds good.

Lisa takes out her phone and hands Chaeyoung her phone.

Lisa: Why don't you give me your phone number and I'll call you once I've made plans.

Chaeyoung glances at Lisa suspiciously before taking her phone.

Chaeyoung: You said you have a girlfriend right?

Lisa chuckles lightly before nodding.

Lisa: Yes. If you don't trust me I can ask her to come along with us.

Chaeyoung's cheeks turn red at the Thai's suggestion. It was enough that one person already found out about her identity, she can't have another person finding out. Besides, if this girl were to bring her girlfriend, Chaeyoung would totally be a third wheel.

Chaeyoung: There's no need for that. I believe you.

The Australian quickly enters her phone number before handing the phone back to Lisa.

The Thai smiles as she stretched out her hand to shake Chaeyoung's.

Lisa: I'm Lisa by the way. I don't think we've ever formally introduced ourselves.

Chaeyoung extends her hand and shakes Lisa's hand in return.

Chaeyoung: As you already know, I'm Rosé. But I'd gladly appreciate it if you could keep my identity between us. I haven't really announced who I am to the whole world yet.

Lisa's mouth forms an O shape before giving the Australian a reassuring smile. She pretends to "lock" her lips with a key before "placing" it inside her pocket.

Lisa: Your secret is safe with me.

Chaeyoung returns her a small smile before gesturing towards the door.

Chaeyoung: If you don't mind, I should get going now.

Lisa nods before stepping out of the strawberry blonde's way.

Lisa: Of course.

Chaeyoung gives Lisa a goodbye nod before making her way out the door. Lisa looks at the Australian's figure until she was no longer visible.

She glances at her phone as a small smile forms on her lips when looking at her idol's name on the screen.

The Thai takes a sip from her latte before beginning to browse for restaurants on her phone.

•••

Lisa was making her way to her office when she spotted her most favorite person in the world.

Smiling to herself, she tucks the present behind her, and sneaks up behind her girlfriend before placing a hand over to cover the brunette's eyes.

Lisa: Give me a kiss or I'm gonna have to kidnap you.

Jennie smiles, immediately recognizing who the voice belongs to.

She turns around and wraps her arms around Lisa's neck before planting a kiss on the blonde's lips.

Jennie: Hey there beautiful.

Lisa returns Jennie a soft smile before asking her where she was headed.

Lisa: Where are you off to?

Jennie: I was actually heading towards your office. Wanted to see how you're handling things. It is your first day back.

Lisa smiles before placing another kiss on Jennie's lips.

Lisa: My girlfriend is so considerate. Which reminds me. Close your eyes.

Jennie laughs lightly as she suspiciously looks at Lisa.

Jennie: Why?

Lisa gives the brunette a wink and charming smile.

Lisa: You'll see. Just close your eyes.

Jennie pouts before removing her arms from around Lisa's neck and closes her eyes.

Smiling to herself, Lisa takes out the velvet box and held it in front of Jennie.

Lisa: Okay, you can open your eyes Nini.

Jennie opens her eyes. Her heart wells up with hope as she gazes at the rectangular velvet box in Lisa's hands.

Lisa: Open it.

Jennie takes the box from Lisa's hands before carefully opening the top.

Upon seeing the dazzling diamond bracelet, she couldn't help but feel herself getting a little disappointed.

Not wanting to hurt Lisa's feelings, she plasters a smile on her face and plants a soft kiss on the latter's cheek.

Jennie: I love it. Thanks Lili.

Lisa smiles in return as a slight blush makes it way onto her face.

Lisa: I have to go. But I'll pick you up for dinner tonight?

Jennie nods in reponse and closes the lid of the box.

Jennie: I'll be waiting.

Lisa kisses the brunette's forehead before walking off towards her office.

Jennie gazes after the retreating figure of her girlfriend before sadly gazing down at the jewelry box.

Jisoo: What's with the long face?

Jennie jumps a bit and whips her head towards the direction of the familiar voice, before relaxing at the sight of Jisoo.

Jennie: It's just you.

Jisoo one of her eyebrows up as she shoots Jennie a lopsided grin.

Jisoo: Just me?

Jennie gives her a small smile before her mind drifted off back towards the bracelet, as her hand unconsciously moves towards her left wrist.

Noticing the box in the brunette's hands, Jisoo's eyes narrow a bit as she slowly starts to piece everything together.

Jisoo: What's that?

Snapping out of her thoughts, Jennie suddenly remembers that Jisoo was still there.

Jennie: It's a gift from Lisa.

Realization dawns on Jisoo as she looks at the rectangular box, already guessing what was inside.

Jisoo: And it's not the gift you wanted.

Jennie did a double take as she feigned ignorance upon Jisoo's comment.

Jennie: What are you talking about. I love it.

Jisoo's smiles softly already sensing the lie in Jennie's voice.

Jisoo: Your expression says otherwise.

Jennie shakes her head as her expression hardens.

Jennie: I don't know what you're talking about. You don't even know what's inside.

Jisoo was about to say something, but she decided against it knowing how stubborn Jennie can be. Releasing a sigh, she decides to let it go.

Jisoo: Alright then. I guess I'll get out of you hair then.

As the raven turns to walk away, she was called back by Jennie.

Jennie: I'm sorry if I snapped at you.

Jisoo turns back and gives the younger girl a wink and a reassuring smile.

Jisoo: I know you didn't mean it Jendeuk-ah. I'm always gonna be here... if you ever need a friend.

And with that the raven walks away, leaving Jennie once again alone with her thoughts.

Lisa: Does the food not suit your taste buds?

Jennie glances up at Lisa and realized that she has yet to take a bite of her food.

Jennie: It's not that. I guess I'm just not hungry today.

Lisa frowns and leans over to feel Jennie's forehead.

Lisa: Are you feeling alright?

Jennie nods.

Jennie: I think it's cause I had a pretty big lunch today. I'm fine Lili, don't worry.

Lisa retracts her hand as she gazes intently at her girlfriend.

Lisa: Are you sure? You've been a bit distracted ever since I picked you up today.

Jennie gives the Thai a reassuring smile.

Jennie: It's probably because I've been working a bit too much lately. I'll be fine after a good night's sleep.

Lisa frowns a bit as she leans back in her chair.

Lisa: Maybe you should stop working.

Jennie's eyes widen in shock as she looks at Lisa's face.

Jennie: What are you saying? Why?

Lisa: I don't want you to overwork yourself Jennie. I don't want to see my girlfriend suffer.

Jennie heaves out a sigh as her expressions relaxes.

Jennie: I'm fine Lisa. I'm just a little tired. Besides, I love working at the company.

Lisa purses her lips as she looks at the brunette unsurely.

Lisa: I know but...

Jennie reaches over and grabs Lisa's hand, giving it a light squeeze.

Jennie: I'll take care of myself better alright.

Reluctantly, Lisa nods in acceptance. She picks up her utensils and resumes eating. She takes a glance at Jennie's wrist and was surprised to see that the latter wasn't wearing her present.

Lisa: You're not wearing my bracelet.

Jennie blinked and glanced down at her wrist before giving Lisa a small smile.

Jennie: It was so precious that I didn't want to damage it.

Lisa shrugs as she takes a sip from her wine.

Lisa: It's okay. If anything happens I'll just buy you a new one.

Jennie smiles hesitantly before nodding in agreement.

Jennie: Okay.

The brunette shifts her attention back to her plate and manages to get a few bites in. Lisa on the other hand takes another sip from her wine and glances hesitantly towards Jennie.

Lisa: Our engagement.

Jennie chokes on her food as she starts to cough uncontrollably.

Lisa sets down her glass and hurriedly hands her girlfriend a napkin.

After a few minutes, the brunette finally recovers as she looks at Lisa with shocked eyes.

Jennie: En-engagement?

Lisa nods.

Lisa: I asked my parents and they agreed. They support us. And I was thinking we can talk to your parents tonight when I drop you off. I'm sure that they won't be against it either—

Jennie holds up a hand to stop Lisa as she tries to process everything inside her brain.

Jennie: Why didn't you talk to me about it?

Lisa tilts her head to the side, confused by Jennie's reaction.

Lisa: I thought this is what you wanted.

Jennie: How can you be so sure Lisa?

Lisa's eyebrows furrow, as her lips form into a frown.

Lisa: I thought it was your dream to become my bride. It's been your dream ever since we were kids. I thought this would make you happy.

Jennie shakes her head as she gazes up at Lisa.

Jennie: So what if it was my dream? Should this all just happen naturally then? You still should've asked me.

Lisa shakes her head as she feels herself getting more confused by Jennie's words.

Lisa: Why are you acting like this? Do you not want to get married with me?

Jennie shakes her head as she gives Lisa a sad smile.

Jennie: Of course I want to marry you Lisa. But are sure you're well prepared to marry me? Are you certain that you truly understand me?

Lisa frowns a bit as she felt herself get hurt by Jennie's words.

Lisa: Of course I understand you. Of course I'm prepared to marry you. I've been prepared ever since we were kids. It's always been certain that we'll get married one day.

Jennie: But you left Lisa. You left me, and now you're suddenly back, and you spring all of this up on me. I— I don't know how I should react to this.

Lisa sits in her seat dejectedly as she shifts her eyes away from Jennie's.

Lisa: What do you want me to do then?

Jennie shuts her eyes as heaves out a sigh.

Jennie: I... just... just give me some time okay? Just give me some time.

The brunette stands up from her seat and walks off, leaving the Thai looking after her retreating figure.
