Chapter 13
Damned Love“Rise and shine sleepy head”, Aunt Taehee drew open my curtains and the sunlight made my eyes wince, “Come on… it’s Christmas eve, do you really want to spend it in bed?”. I sat up in a daze, “What time is it?”. “9 am”, she said, “Those cookies aren’t going to bake themselves. Well actually Dae and Guan started baking them but if you don’t wake up right now, they are probably going to eat it all”. “But Guanlin doesn’t”, I stopped before I could say the word ‘eat’. “He doesn’t what?”, she asked. “Uhm he doesn’t what shapes I like mine in”. It was a stupid thing to say but she didn't seem to notice. “So then get up and go and help them”, she picked up a pillow and hit the side of my with it, before leaving the room. I sat for a moment, with my head in my hands, trying to fully wake up. I jumped at the sound of a knock at my window, only to see Seongwoo outside, wings fully out. I quickly ran over to my door and shut it, before opening the window for him to come inside.
“Morning”, he smiled, “That is adorable”. I was wearing a fluffy hello kitty onesie. “What are you doing here? Is everything okay?”, I asked anxiously. “I just wanted to check up on you… it’s been two days since I have spoken to you”, he pressed one of the fluffy ears, “And I wanted to see how your hands were doing”. “Well they haven’t caused any damage yet”, I held them out to him, “Mostly because I haven’t been using them. I wish I practiced more before coming here. How will I ever explain it to them if something happens? I won’t have Jaehwan take away more of their memory because of me. It just isn’t right”. He held onto my hands, as if inspecting them, “You seem to forget that this is a gift… not a curse and maybe then you will be able to wield it accordingly”. Just then my door opened and Taehee walked into my room to find a boy she had never seen before, holding my hands.
“What is going on?”, her voice was firm, almost angry. Seongwoo released my hands. “Uhm, this is my friend Seongwoo”, I said, “He was just in the neighborhood and decided to drop by”. He smiled awkwardly, “Hello”. She ignored him and gave me a look of disappointment, “Tris can I talk to you, alone?”.
