Creep It Real
Our House [One-Shot/Drabble Collection]“Ya’ll need to stop leaving all these automated thingys plugged in.” Zitao huffs as she unplugs the automatic can opener and flips the lever of it away from the button it presses down to start.
Kyungri pauses in her shaking of her kool-aid bottle and squints at the faded dirty blonde woman who’s making rounds on the kitchen counters unplugging everything from the microwave, toaster to the coffee maker and more. Kyungri glances over her shoulder at a silently laughing Junghae who’s pigging out on soggy cereal before looking back at Zitao who seems to be contemplating unplugging the fridge—this is when Kyungri needs to step in.
“Why?” Kyungri states her question with a slight shake of her head because yes, she does find it funny that Zitao is going up and over to avoid anything that could be linked to ghost since last year.
Zitao turns with a disbelief expression, her eyes only on Kyungri as she replies with: “Because they freakin' activate by themselves when I’m alone! It’s scary!” Kyungri picks up the soft snort from Junghae behind her and Kyungri suddenly knows that these machines aren’t malfunctioning when Zitao is left alone. “Make me think there really are ghost here…” Zitao ends with a trembling tone in a display that she is, in fact, very afraid of the unknown.
Kyungri feels sorry that everyone is using the younger’s fear against her for a good laugh, but at the same time, Kyungri has had her fair share of scares to Zitao and Baekhee. Is she a bad person? Is it wrong to feel satisfied after scaring them?
Yes, Kyungri visibly nods that kinda unnerves Zitao [and Junghae] out since she hasn’t said anything, it is but at least I only do it once in a blue moon.
Hypocrite? Kyungri suddenly doesn’t know the definition of such word.
“Oh, sorry.” Kyungri finally speaks up and she sounds strangely sincere and the two in the kitchen don’t know why. “He must’ve followed me.” The dark-haired woman smiles creepily and goes back to shaking her bottle.
Zitao freezes as flashbacks of last year’s Halloween rises and Junghae drops her spoon into her cereal.
“Cut the bullcrap, Kyungri. I swear to God.” Junghae warns in a weary tone and it intrigues Kyungri enough to get to her pause her motions once again.
“I thought you don’t believe in ghost, Junghae?” Kyungri frowns her eyebrows in thought, trying to recall the others words exactly to quote them.
“You’re right, I don’t.” Junghae raises her hands up in surrender then settles them on the kitchen island as she says, “But I believe in demons. Since I live with a handful of them.” Junghae gives a good, long glare at Kyungri to make her point and what she is hinting at.
“Oh,” Yixin walks in with a plate and a empty glass, “you see them, too, Junghae?” Yixin blinks innocently and slightly baffled at the other.
The kitchen is evacuated so quickly only Kyungri and Yixin are left.
Kyungri watches Yixin show a confused expression before placing her dirty dishes in the sink and grabbing her gloves to clean them. Just as Yixin soaps the sponge, Kyungri heaves a loud and heavy sigh that makes the older stop. Yixin turns with a smile that looks more like a sinister grin on her innocent face.
“I almost had them.” Kyungri mutters as she digs for a 10,000 won bill and hands it to Yixin.
“Almost, Kyungri.” Yixin folds the bill, slips it in her pocket and hums cheerfully as she does her dishes.
