Every. Time.
Our House [One-Shot/Drabble Collection]“It’s not going to work.” Misook deadpans as she climbs onto Yixin’s bed. She carefully spreads out the laminated photos across as Yixin moves a empty photo album away to make room.
“It is and you know it.” Confidence, and probably a dash of sass, is what Junhee's going for, Misook notes, but Junhee's voice shakes a bit at the end. If anything, Junhee sounds nervous and doubtful of her plan. And it didn't help that for once, Misook isn't backing her up.
“Look,” Misook hands the quiet Yixin a group of laminated photos and scissors. “I’m not saying I don’t know, but trust me, I know just how much you have her wrapped around your fingers. But tonight is super important for her, I seriously doubt she’ll ditch.” Yixin hands her a group of photos.
Junhee opens with a finger ready to listen off facts, but none come to mind. She drops her hands and shuts sadly. Misook looks away and positions her scissors as Junhee sighs in a manner that Misook understands and Yixin doesn't.
“If you don’t mind me adding,” Yixin speaks up softly as she pauses her cutting, “but from just being here for a month or so—”
“It’s been four months, Yixin.” Misook chuckles with a shy shake of her head.
“Oh.” Yixin blinks, embarrassed that she keeps forgetting how long she’s been in this house. She pouts her lips but turns back to Junhee and continues, “But since being here, I’ve noticed, too, that Kris drops most stuff for you? I think it’s only reasonable to think that Kris would drop her sports meeting—purely based on statistics.”
Junhee makes a squeak as her hands flutter against each other in hyper claps. “See!” Junhee practically hops over like a bunny to Yixin and gives her an affectionate hug. “I love you thank you.” She says in a cutesy voice. Yixin returns the hug with a hearty laugh.
Misook sighs, though, because Junhee can be childish most of the time. And as the oldest in the house, she feels it’s her responsibility to let the younger ones understand reality. And reality isn’t always going to work for them. “How about we stop hypothesizing and put your statement to the test. She’s probably getting ready as we speak since it starts in three hours; yours in four.”
Junhee pouts besides Yixin who is focused on cutting the photos out perfectly.
“Fine.” Junhee huffs and places her hands to her hips. “Watch.” She nods confidently.
Misook does, amusingly, as Junhee spins on her socked heel and marches her way to the bedroom door when Yixin speaks, again.
“You know what to do if it doesn’t go as planned?” Yixin doesn’t look up from her cutting nor does she move her body. Misook shifts her eyes back to Junhee who nods and then walks out, closing the door shut softly.
The room is quiet.
“You’ll see what I mean.” Yixin smiles softly as she places a perfectly cut out photo onto an empty page before resuming.
Misook shakes her head with a grin, amused at the both. She doubts Kris will skip, no matter how much Misook knows Kris likes Junhee. The meeting set up for Kris will determine her athletic career; anyone who skips would be a fool.
“...but Kris, please! Please, please, please!” Misook and Yixin hear Junhee clearly beg in her cutesy voice.
Misook turns to Yixin just as the younger does to her; they both hold in their laughter.
“Junhee, you know what this dinner means. I can’t, okay?” Kris’ voice is firm and holds no sounds of caving into Junhee’s hands.
“But you’re Wu Fan. The Wu Fan! I’m sure they’ll reschedule again, for you. Just please, Kris? You know I can’t go alone…”
The two hear a sigh outside the room and they both know it belongs to Kris.
“No. No, I can’t. Ask Kyungri, or Chanyoung. Heck, you can ask Luhan. Lord knows she needs to get out on Fridays.”
There’s a pause; long enough for Yixin to turn to Misook and Misook to raise her eyebrows at her. Yixin pats herself on the back in her head for actually understanding Misook’s eyebrow language.
Junhee is about to pull the card.
“But I…” Junhee’s voice is barely audible. It’s to a point that Misook and Yixin lean towards the door to hear each symbol, snipping long forgotten, “...safe with you. Comfortable with you. I mean I, well, you know how my mother and father get. Always talking of me so highly and,”—they hear Junhee sigh—“They’ve arranged three blind dates for me, but I’m meeting two of them there and you know, Kris. You know how I get.”
The card is revealed but the longer the seconds tick without any of either speaking make Kris’ answer obvious. Misook actually feels a bit proud that she was right, but still guiltily that she was. Maybe she’ll tag along.
“Fine.” Junhee’s voice is loud. “I’ll just ask Yixin.”
They hear Junhee stomp her way over to the door and it takes until now for Misook to realize that Yixin isn’t on the bed with her, but in front of the door. Misook squints at Yixin’s back, is this what she meant?
Junhee knocks twice. Yixin peers over her shoulder to raise her own eyebrows at Misook and then answers the door with: “Oh Junhee! What’s up?” It’s the fakest tone of cheery Misook has ever heard and she honestly hopes Kris doesn’t fall for whatever Junhee and Yixin has planned.
“Yixin, do you think—” But Yixin doesn’t get a chance to think, or reply. In fact, no gets a chance to think as Misook faintly sees Junhee being whisked away by Kris. It sounds like Kris is telling Junhee something, almost scolding sounding, but Misook can’t make the words out as a door is shut.
Yixin shuts her door softly and sits back onto the bed. She gathers her tool and starts cutting as if nothing happened.
Misook puts her scissors down, baffled. “Did that just work?”
Yixin giggles but is quick to apologize. Still, she keeps her goofy smile and says, as she snips away, “What do you think?”
Misook shakes her head. “I'd think Kris would learn Junhee’s tactics by now.”
