The Target

It was early in the morning when Ha Maerin ran late to the headquarter of the organization. Unlike several other agents, she was an analyst and was therefore required to work full time without the aid of a camouflage job. She never had to enter the mission fields. Hana and Tae Min were similar to her and researched for a living.   There were agents who were specialized in combats and had to take care of the annihilation of their targets. There were other mastermind like Dong Woo who were amazingly skilled in hacking and was in charge of unseen shadow work that could do a lot of damage. People like Hyun Mi and Ki Bum were also usually sent on the mission field, but they were on the manipulation end who would convince targets to do what was required. Ki Bum was still more of a strategist though and planned ahead. So Maerin was confused why the two were suddenly tasked to kill someone.   While rushing to the research room, she received a phone call, almost causing her to drop those dreaded 300 pages transaction records of the politician. It was still 9 in the morning, who would possibly disturb her from the meeting she was already running late for?   “Maerin, I need you and Hana to help me research something- or rather someone else,” came a faint whisper. Of course it was Hyun Mi.   “Who is it?” She asked, slowing her pace a little.   “Choi Min Ho.”   Maerin halted. The name was more than familiar considering she and the others had just discussed about him the day before before Ki Bum disbanded their meeting. “Do you know him?” She asked.   “He’s the one who has been stealing Woo Hyun’s money. This is why Woo Hyun is transferring his money somewhere else to keep it safe,” Hyun Mi whispered into the phone.   “That makes a lot of sense! It matches his transaction records!” Maerin gasped, knowing they were advancing in their secretive research. “But why are you whispering though?”   “Ah, because Woo Hyun’s still asleep.”   Maerin’s eyes widened in shock and her jaws fell open. She noted the endearing way Hyun Mi called out his name, or the fact she was considerate enough to let him continue sleeping, or even worse, the assumption those two had spent a night together.   “I know I asked you to name your child after me, but I didn’t think you’d act so quickly,” she uttered.   “No!” Hyun Mi lost control of her volume, cleared her voice, and resumed in a whisper. “No, it’s not what you think it is. J-just find out about this Choi Min Ho guy and send me his location too.”   “Fine, I’ll let Hana know. Don’t do anything weird,” she then added on a rather playful note and quickly hung up the phone before the elder girl could protest. She didn’t notice the senior in front of her when she accidentally bumped into her.   The books fell on the ground, visible to the other’s eye.   “Watch where you’re going,” the senior said. Clearly they did not know each other’s name, which was very common at the organization. Her eyes eventually fell on those scattered books. “What are those?”   Maerin panicked. At any given situation, she could’ve made up a believable excuse. But since she was off-guard, she couldn’t come up with anything.   “It’s something I asked her to help me with, Soyou sunbaenin,” a heavenly voice sounded from behind, and Maerin couldn’t be more than happy when Tae Min picked up the fallen books.   “What would you need such thick books for?” The woman identified as Soyou questioned, frowning.   “Research,” Tae Min answered the obvious and flashed a sweet harmless smile to the other. He then took the heavy books from Maerin’s hand, draped his other arm around her shoulder, and guided her away. “Now if you excuse us, sunbae.”   “T-t-thank you.” Maerin couldn’t concentrate on anything else when he was physically so close. Her heart was about to burst again.   “You better be careful. It would be problematic for us if anyone found out,” Tae Min whispered, and she blushed furiously.   “R-right…” Again, she lost her ability to speak, but for a different reason.   He let go of her shoulder and patted her head once. “Let me know if I can help out with anything.”   Maerin watched him leave through the door that led to the laboratories, his habitat in this organization. She finally grinned widely from ear to ear, secretly thanking Hyun Mi for involving her with this mission. At least she got to talk to her dream boy.       A long sigh escaped Hyun Mi’s lips. Her friend succeeded in making things awkward after the phone call. She could no longer stay in the bedroom, not when Nam Woo Hyun managed to exert a hypnotic charm even in his sleep. Maybe his exceptional good looks paired with his adorable sleepy face made it so hard to resist him.   “Oh my goodness,” she exclaimed to herself when she realized her own thoughts. She quickly forced herself to focus on the mission.   It was still morning, and to distract herself, she was now busy preparing some kimchi fried rice. She was an adequate cook actually, but knowing her brother Dong Woo took pride in—what he believed—was his exceptional cooking skills, she couldn’t crush his beliefs. For his sake, she continued eating occasional overburned food.   “Morning.”   The deep husky voice filled her ears like a tingly sensation tickling her heart. Being alone with him wasn’t weird at all the day prior, but today she became more self conscious. Thank you, Ha Maerin.   “Morning,” she replied to him with fake casualty. It was weird; she was supposed to kill him, and yet here they were, greeting each other on a perfectly sunny day like they were some couple going on a trip.   “You can cook?” Woo Hyun took a definite interest as she scooped some of the fried rice in a bowl and placed it in front of him.   “Not as well as you, but it will do,” she said, watching him examine the food the same way he examined the caramel macchiato before. “Don’t worry, I didn’t put poison or anything.”   Woo Hyun looked up in surprise and chuckled. “I was just admiring its perfectly cooked texture,” he told her. When he took a bite, she could immediately read the joy on his face. He hummed out loud and gave her thumbs up.   “What to do? Maybe we should really consider the idea of marriage,” he said playfully.   “That’s no way for a gentleman to propose to a lady,” Hyun Mi uttered with a soft laugh. This time she knew he was kidding, and she was guarding her heart well enough to not let it affect her too much.   Woo Hyun smiled as they continued eating again. It didn’t take two minutes for him to break

Chapter 24: I finally finished this today.
I should have seen it coming with Ki Bum since I do watch a couple of spy movies/dramas.
I think my favorite part is seeing Hyun Mi threaten Mr. Lee and then her conflicting view on their mission in the plane.

Chapter 21: I love how there's another reference to HIPS with Hee Jin mentioning she nearly killed someone with a curling iron. It makes me wonder if that's where she got the idea to use it as a weapon.

Chapter 19: I love how Hyun Mi and Woo Hyun are closer which makes it sadder with what happens to him in HIPS.

Chapter 17: I like how this is kind of like a foreshadowing of HIPS and love the cameo of Hee Jin and Min Seok.

Chapter 14: I don't think Woo Hyun is lying to Hyun Mi.
I like how Hyun Mi and those close to her want to change what their company does. I couldn't help but think maybe one of the higher-ups in their company or maybe Ki Bum is using them for their own goals.

Chapter 14: Wait whatt that was unexpected... I've been feeling that Ki Bum and Mr. Lee were slightly off though, so I think they're both probably lying. There's no way Woohyun would actually deserve to be killed...

But on a happier note, yay Taemin and Maerin! The hand holding part was really cute XD

Chapter 12: Love the appearances of the other characters from HIPS, Seollin and Taehyung introducing themselves made me laugh.
I think my favorite part is when Taemin touched the check because one thing I learn from a game called "Women's Murder Club: Death in Scarlet" is that people tend to press a bit hard when writing. So whatever they wrote might be indented into the next sheet of paper.

Chapter 11: The part where they nearly got caught is so intense. It reminded me of a level I played in "Hitman 2", where Agent 47 has about at least 3 to 5 minutes to kill his target before his identity gets discovered.
Also, the two finally kissed! I laughed at the part where Hyun Mi realized the others might have seen it from the CCTV.

Chapter 10: Woo Hyun to the rescue! I find it sweet he's there to save Hyun Mi from Sang Gyu since she and the others were stuck on what to do.
