The Target

The pair of eyes frowned at Tae Min, including Maerin, who all questioned the credibility of his revelation.   “Dude, Comme Des is my dog’s name!” Ki Bum uttered out loud.   “It is also the name of a fashion brand in Japan,” Hana stated, trying to think of a link between the brand name and the fraud case.   “They did say the third external party was using a pen name. This could be the pen name.” Hyun Mi remembered the conversation with Myung Soo and Seul Yi earlier. Every information obtained seemed to match up together.   “So our next mission will be to decode and find out who this Comme Des is and to figure out the list of companies based on this photograph,” Dong Woo said, pointing at the vague highly contrasted photo of white and white on the TV screen. “Hana, you’re friends with the cryptologist, right?”   “W-with Ji Soo oppa?” Hana stammered a little. Rather than friends, it was perhaps a little more than that. She was no different from Tae Min and Maerin; suffering a one sided crush the guy was blinded to.   “Oh, the guy who locks himself up like a hobo to do his work but refuses to help others? He’d help if Hana is the one asking though.” Even Ki Bum knew about their special relationship.   A deep red blush grew on Hana’s cheeks, already too happy with the statement alone. She couldn’t deny because it was true. “I will try to ask him.”   “As for the rest of us? What will we do?” Maerin questioned.   “Carry on with your usual life,” Dong Woo answered, staring mainly towards Woo Hyun now. “You have been too involved in this and I deeply apologize. But there is no way we’d let you go at this point because you know too much.”   “That’s quite alright,” Woo Hyun said, cocking his head to meet Hyun Mi’s eyes who had been openly staring at him. “I could not have wished for any better solution.”   Something about his words made her smile coyly. Or perhaps it was the charming way he looked deep into her eyes that triggered her heart to race. Nonetheless, a part of her knew she wouldn’t have been able to leave him alone even if they were to let him go.   “Alright! Let’s proceed with our next move then!” Ki Bum then said, knowing they all had their own parts to play now.     The hardest part about this secret assignment was having to request help from people within the organization they were rebelling against. There were people who disagreed with the organization’s ways, but would never conform to it out loud. Then there were those whose loyalty struck so high they were willing to die on the organization’s behalf.   Hong Ji Soo fell in neither category. He was pretty much in love with his work, and thereby isolated himself on his own all the time. He never showed an alliance towards the organization nor did he show a great disappointment. He just liked doing the work. And it was through him that Hana, the paralegal, joined the organization.   “Ji Soo oppa?” Hana softly knocked against the door to his small office. She opened the entrance, squinting her yes when it made a loud creaking noise that was sure to disturb him.   “Hana! What brings you here?” Ji Soo turned to her, flashing a bright smile. Because contrary to everyone’s rumors and stories about him, the only person who witnessed his cheery side was Hana herself.   “I need your help,” she said hesitantly. It was a very risky game, because he could either decide to help them or leave them be after attaining knowledge of their rebellion.   Ji Soo cocked his head sideways, motioning her to come closer. “What is that in your hand?” He was always sharp to catch on the small things outside her usual routine.   “It’s a flashdrive,” she spoke, knowing he waited for more elaboration. “There is a photograph that we’d like to decipher.”   Ji Soo chuckled, taking the flashdrive from her hand and plugged it in the laptop in front of him. “So you came to me?”   “You’re the best cryptologist in this entire organization. There has never been a code you can't crack,” Hana said with slight excitement, and one could tell she was being truthful. “Plus, you’re the only one I can trust.”   Again, he simply laughed and loaded the contents of the flashdrive unto his desktop. “I heard rumors about a rebellion on the rise within the company. You wouldn’t happen to know anything about that, do you?” He asked her.   “N-no!” She yelped in panic.   “You’re a bad liar.”   Hana bit her lips. It was for that exact reason she could never do what Ki Bum and Hyun Mi did whenever they played mind games and lied about their identities all the time. She was better at the research part.   “And by agreeing to help you out, I guess I have just supported the rebellious act,” he then sighed, clicking on the picture to reveal it. It was just white, but he knew just what to do.   “So you’ll help us?” Hana asked, fluttering her eyes in happiness.   “Only because you personally asked me to.” Ji Soo flashed her a smile that melted her heart. He softly patted the top of her head before returning to the computer screen with analytical eyes. “Besides, this seems fun to decode.”     Everyone had seemingly gone back to their usual routine. Woo Hyun, as the public politician on the rise, was giving speeches here and there to prepare for another big campaign. Despite the media being on to him, no one managed to record his life being in danger. The assassin must’ve chosen a quiet time when no one was around on purpose to attack him, but one could never be too cautious.   “The greatest aspect a company can attain, which makes it truly remarkable and deserving of all the respect, is its truthfulness and honesty,” Woo Hyun spoke in front of his supporters and media press. Cameras were flashing here and there to capture his good sides from every angle.   Hyun Mi was present among the crowd, slightly keeping her distance outside the circle of people so it would be easier to move around. Part of her presence felt she needed to protect him and ensure his safety. But that was only partially true. She knew her true reason coming there was because she wanted to see him; because not being around him started to feel out of the norm, and she was a girl who took joy in routinity.   “There are countless companies in various industries going against the moral code; accepting bribery or illegal funds in order to proceed with shameful acts that brings disgrace to our nation. We need to put an end to this!” Woo Hyun spoke, clearly in light of all the things they had been exposed to for the past few days.   By now, Hyun Mi truly believed Woo Hyun was innocent. She could detect a lie most of the time, and with Woo Hyun, she only saw truthfulness. Even when he threw her such affectionate cheesy remarks, she knew he wasn’t lying.   The crowd suddenly got up and began to cheer a standing ovation. But that wasn’t the end to his rally since it was now the media’s turn to ask questions. It became chaotic. Police officers had to calm down the situation and usher everyone back to their places. From the corner of her eyes, Hyun Mi spotted Lee Hoya. She sighed, knowing his girlfriend was probably somewhere in the crowd.   “Oh Hyun Mi! I didn’t expect to see you here too.” Bi Ah’s voice suddenly rang into her ears.   “Oh, hi…”   Hyun Mi should’ve known Hoya’s girlfriend would be somewhere close to her, as if fate constantly wanted them to meet up for whatever reason. Due to Hoya’s presence, she now had to be extra careful.   “Mr. Nam, what is your view regarding recent embezzlement accusations thrown at companies?” A reporter asked.   “As you said, it is an accusation. Wouldn’t it be more important to find out whether it was a fact or a rumor in the first place? Why would anyone want to destroy a person or company based on no factual basis?” Woo Hyun skillfully answered in a way that posed the question back to the one asking. It was a psychological trick to make people see fault in their own questions rather than obtaining a fixed answer for it.   Hyun Mi nodded along, feeling a sense of pride at every single one of his answers. She wasn’t even sure why she felt so proud, but after knowing what he had gone through, she truly wanted him to be successful. Knowing him suddenly became a privilege.   “Mr. Nam, my name is Hwang Yerin and I am here to address the latest scandal involving you,” a familiar looking reporter stood up after introducing herself. “Since you are one of the most sought out bachelors, are there no special lady in your life who

Chapter 24: I finally finished this today.
I should have seen it coming with Ki Bum since I do watch a couple of spy movies/dramas.
I think my favorite part is seeing Hyun Mi threaten Mr. Lee and then her conflicting view on their mission in the plane.

Chapter 21: I love how there's another reference to HIPS with Hee Jin mentioning she nearly killed someone with a curling iron. It makes me wonder if that's where she got the idea to use it as a weapon.

Chapter 19: I love how Hyun Mi and Woo Hyun are closer which makes it sadder with what happens to him in HIPS.

Chapter 17: I like how this is kind of like a foreshadowing of HIPS and love the cameo of Hee Jin and Min Seok.

Chapter 14: I don't think Woo Hyun is lying to Hyun Mi.
I like how Hyun Mi and those close to her want to change what their company does. I couldn't help but think maybe one of the higher-ups in their company or maybe Ki Bum is using them for their own goals.

Chapter 14: Wait whatt that was unexpected... I've been feeling that Ki Bum and Mr. Lee were slightly off though, so I think they're both probably lying. There's no way Woohyun would actually deserve to be killed...

But on a happier note, yay Taemin and Maerin! The hand holding part was really cute XD

Chapter 12: Love the appearances of the other characters from HIPS, Seollin and Taehyung introducing themselves made me laugh.
I think my favorite part is when Taemin touched the check because one thing I learn from a game called "Women's Murder Club: Death in Scarlet" is that people tend to press a bit hard when writing. So whatever they wrote might be indented into the next sheet of paper.

Chapter 11: The part where they nearly got caught is so intense. It reminded me of a level I played in "Hitman 2", where Agent 47 has about at least 3 to 5 minutes to kill his target before his identity gets discovered.
Also, the two finally kissed! I laughed at the part where Hyun Mi realized the others might have seen it from the CCTV.

Chapter 10: Woo Hyun to the rescue! I find it sweet he's there to save Hyun Mi from Sang Gyu since she and the others were stuck on what to do.
