Fourth Movement (Part 1)

The Target

It was a half hour to 8 PM. Palau de la Música Catalana was swarmed by a group of visitors from all over the world, wanting to visit the number one tourist spot in Barcelona, yet clueless of the danger awaiting them. The unawareness had to be kept.   The building was grand and resembled every bit of a musical theatre architecture. The exterior walls were clothed in red bricks, upheld using white pillars that stemmed across the olden style windows. Every entrance was an archway within the wall, leading to a breathtaking interior painted in shimmering gold. Tall windows cascaded on every side of the wall, elongating from the ceiling all the way toward the bottom floor. Rows of red cushioned seat extended to the second and third floors, arching around the main stage.   A whole orchestral assemble laid in waiting; numerous musical instruments left unattended. A small fancy booklet was placed on every unoccupied seat, containing information about today’s performance piece.   “Brahm’s First Symphony in C Minor, Op. 68,” Woo Hyun read as he picked up the booklet. There was a list of every instrument and the player assigned to every single one of them, along with the name of the conductor of tonight’s performance.   Ji Soo picked up the same booklet in his hand and read everything with such careful observations. He read every single word letter by letter, wondering if there was a pattern or code slipped between the letters. His expertise, after all, was to decipher hidden messages in seemingly ordinary situations.   “It usually takes 45 to 50 minutes to perform this piece. There are a total of four movements,” Hana said after she did a quick research about the symphonic piece on her phone.   “Soyou mentioned the virus would be released during the fourth movement,” Hyun Mi said, scanning her eyes around the entire hall for answers. “Hana, please find out whether there are any notable differences in the orchestral arrangement during the fourth movement.”   “Okay!” Hana and Ji Soo both headed outside to gain access to the wifi. This wasn't the type of research a mere smartphone would suffice for. She had brought her iPad with its portable USB keyboard in case they needed to carry out an intense research.   Woo Hyun carefully looked at Hyun Mi, eyes trailing lower to the long gown covering her legs. “Your brother is amazing. I didn’t know there was a device that helped the gun remain undetected through the scanner,” he talked about their earlier entrance.   “Sometimes he is our only access to what is forbidden,” she answered, eyes briefly skimming to her leg where the gun was stored. It was the only place she could keep it at considering her silver clutch was far too small to conceal the handgun inside. So she stored some smoke bombs instead—ones which Tae Min had obtained somewhere along the way.   “Where is he now?” Woo Hyun asked.   “Setting up the eye everywhere.”     The entire operation was impromptu and they didn’t have much time to formulate a plan. They figured gaining visuals of the situation would be important, and therefore set up tiny cameras throughout the place.   Dong Woo and Hee-Jin were busy planting these cameras backstage on the lower floor and at all the places commoners were forbidden to go to. He obtained a copy of the design—easily tweaking and manipulating it a little to print one for themselves. They gained access anywhere and everywhere, though they were confused when someone ushered them to leave in Spanish.   “What do we do now?” Hee-Jin asked.   “With these crew ID cards, we are pretty much free to roam anywhere,” Dong Woo said leisurely as he twirled the said item between his fingers. “You are dismissed.”   “What? Just like that?” Hee-Jin blinked her eyes. She knew he wasn’t kidding when he actually left her be and walked into the men’s bathroom with no warning. Her eyes darted to the next available room closest to her, the waiting room.   She timidly entered inside, and people barely noticed her. The room was packed with musicians and stylists retouching the performer’s thick stage makeup. She was meeting actual celebrities, and couldn't help but smile from ear to ear.   “A trabaja!” Someone suddenly shouted towards Hee-Jin. “Trabaja”   She had no idea what was going on, suddenly receiving a hairbrush and a curling iron in her hands. The person pointed towards a musician waiting in front of the vanity mirror, awaiting the touch of a professional stylist.   She had taken a flight attendant course, not a beauty guru class.     Maerin and Tae Min were also tasked to plant the cameras all around the building. They were outside, placing it around some corners, making sure to cover any potential blind spots. Then they moved to the main auditorium and placed several more. They had zero shame when walking to the front, setting up a camera on the conductor’s music sheet stand.   “Vete!” One of the security guard suddenly shouted at them. He was a big man with an equally big frown on his face.   The two were too immersed in their task to notice the threat in his voice. He began yelling at them in more Spanish, all gibberish lingo to the non Spanish speakers. They exchanged looks with each other, confused.   “Didn’t you take a course in linguistics? Try making up an excuse,” Tae Min told the girl beside him.   Maerin flinched in surprise. She took a language course in Mandarin, not in Spanish. But since Tae Min had thought so highly of her, she might as well live up to his expectation. Even if she were wrong, he wouldn’t know. So she cleared , facing the noisy security guard.   “Amigo. Me gustas tu. Churros, baby,” she said, sounding so convincing for even herself.   The security looked perplexed, quieting down as he tried to make sense of the sentence she had just said.   “Se ve como popo,” Maerin continued.   And this time, the man resumed his yelling, pushing the two away from the stage, back to the audience seat.   “Wow.” Tae Min was caught in amazement when he held her hand to help her balance. “You are so fluent in Spanish. Did you learn this from your language class?”   “No, I learned this by listening to a lot of K-Pop songs and by reading this one fanfic I found online on AsianFanfics.”   Tae Min stared at her with brief confusement.   “I also know ti amo,” Maerin coyly added an attempt to be more affectionate with him after their indirect confession back at the airport. “It’s Spanish for I love you.”   Tae Min chuckled. “Isn’t that Italian though?”   The grin fell from her face instantly, a color of embarrassment shading her entire face. Her sweet antics went down the drains and she made a mental note to ask Woo Hyun how he does it so smoothly.   “Turns out you’re fluent in Italian too,” Tae Min then said, caressing her hair like she was the most adorable person in the world. He was always the only one who could turn her failures into victories.   The pair returned to their assigned seat where the other two had been watching them the entire time. Hyun Mi did not look too amused whereas Woo Hyun’s mouth was still hurting from laughter.   “You two should be more careful. We can’t get caught now,” Hyun Mi told the two younger ones as soon as they took a seat.   “Relax, mom. My Spanish managed to catch him off guard,” Maerin said proudly. If it were in any other situation and context, she was sure the elder would’ve seen the humor in it, but this was not the time.   “The show is starting,” Tae Min commented, watching a group of people appear to take their righteous place at their respective instrument.   Brahm’s First Symphony in C Minor, Op. 68 started.     A fun and cheery whistle filled the men’s bathroom as Dong Woo washed his hand. There was no rush and he sure took his time when he was the only person inhabiting it.   A trespasser’s presence caught his interest, and  awareness fleeted across Dong Woo’s feature. He knew better than to stop his whistling entirely, so he proceeded as if nothing had gone wrong. He lowered his face so that his reflection would remain unnoticed.   Though the intruder was not wearing any of his weird and bold fashion statement today, Dong Woo had spend too much time with Ki Bum to recognize his tal

Chapter 24: I finally finished this today.
I should have seen it coming with Ki Bum since I do watch a couple of spy movies/dramas.
I think my favorite part is seeing Hyun Mi threaten Mr. Lee and then her conflicting view on their mission in the plane.

Chapter 21: I love how there's another reference to HIPS with Hee Jin mentioning she nearly killed someone with a curling iron. It makes me wonder if that's where she got the idea to use it as a weapon.

Chapter 19: I love how Hyun Mi and Woo Hyun are closer which makes it sadder with what happens to him in HIPS.

Chapter 17: I like how this is kind of like a foreshadowing of HIPS and love the cameo of Hee Jin and Min Seok.

Chapter 14: I don't think Woo Hyun is lying to Hyun Mi.
I like how Hyun Mi and those close to her want to change what their company does. I couldn't help but think maybe one of the higher-ups in their company or maybe Ki Bum is using them for their own goals.

Chapter 14: Wait whatt that was unexpected... I've been feeling that Ki Bum and Mr. Lee were slightly off though, so I think they're both probably lying. There's no way Woohyun would actually deserve to be killed...

But on a happier note, yay Taemin and Maerin! The hand holding part was really cute XD

Chapter 12: Love the appearances of the other characters from HIPS, Seollin and Taehyung introducing themselves made me laugh.
I think my favorite part is when Taemin touched the check because one thing I learn from a game called "Women's Murder Club: Death in Scarlet" is that people tend to press a bit hard when writing. So whatever they wrote might be indented into the next sheet of paper.

Chapter 11: The part where they nearly got caught is so intense. It reminded me of a level I played in "Hitman 2", where Agent 47 has about at least 3 to 5 minutes to kill his target before his identity gets discovered.
Also, the two finally kissed! I laughed at the part where Hyun Mi realized the others might have seen it from the CCTV.

Chapter 10: Woo Hyun to the rescue! I find it sweet he's there to save Hyun Mi from Sang Gyu since she and the others were stuck on what to do.
