Prologue
SoulmatesThe countdown timer is supposed to be silent and has always been for the past twenty-one years, but today, she feels as though she can just hear it, loudly and clearly.
Tick. Tick. Tick.
She tries to calm her palpitating heart, except that only makes her even more nervous than before. She is usually a composed person, but right now, she is everything but collected. For today, the biggest countdown of her life is going to end – the countdown that started the moment she was labored into this world.
Tick. Tick. Tick.
Her palms become sweatier from the tight clench of her fists and it feels harder to breathe by the second. Her friend is right next to her, talking to her, but she hears nothing. All she can hear is the ticking coming from her wrist.
Tick. Tick. Tick.
She feels a little foolish at herself. She doesn’t even know what’s in for her after the countdown ends and yet she is looking forward to it like her life depends on it. Well, that is technically true because her mother once told her it is very important, but still, what if it turns out to be something bad?
Tick. Tick. Tick.
It is now down to the last minute before she finally gets to know what this timer on her wrist is for. Her pace starts picking up and her vision starts going everywhere around her, looking for that someone.
